Cool - thanks. Yup, you'll know immediately because it's horrible when watching House. Thanks again!

Had you inspected the Dish to make sure it wasn't blocked or covered in some way on Monday? Kind of suggests (to me) that it was either your setup (Dish) or the Receiver itself...

My DirecTV feed for House and 24 were fine... So the "Local" Milwaukee 6 feed was OK.

Hopefully the Tech has some thoughts...

Nuance, we watched House last night through our dish DVR and we didn't notice any issues.

^ Thank you. D* resolved the issue today, as we were getting a weak signal due to the dish somehow being knocked off it's proper angle and tilt.

Thank you.

RE: Local Digital Conversion Info? Who is delaying and who is not?

Been reading up on which channels in Milwaukee/WI are going to make the switch in Feb and which are going to switch between March and June?

From what I can gather it would seem that PBS (Milwaukee 10/36 and WPT) is sticking with Analog/Digital till June (to provide service to those "in need" customers... which is nice considering togeather they do have virtual statewide coverage). NBC 12 in Northern WI is switching Feb 17 which leaves PBS 36 (WPT not Milwaukee 36) in Analog/Digital till June 12...

As for Milwaukee stations it seems that CBS 58 either is still doing a Feb swap or they haven't updated their DTV page yet...
As of 2-9-09?

WDJT CBS 58 - Feb 17?
PBS 10/36 and WPT- June 12
WISN ABC 12 - June 12
WTMJ NBC 4 - June 12
WITI FOX 6 - June 12
WCGV/WVTV 24MYTV/18CW - Feb 17?

Anyone seen recent "cutoff date" crawlers/PSAs that contradict the above?

Thanks,
Dave

According to the Journal Sentinel, 18, 24, and 30 will end analog on 2/17 but 4, 6, 10, 12, 36, and 58 will stay.

http://www.jsonline.com/entertainmen.../39341427.html

Also, WPT did turn off its Park Falls transmitter last week, and converted its six low-power translators to digital last fall.

Jon Ellis,

Thanks for the info. Hopefully (or not) CBS 58 will update it's DTV info.. Of coarse I'm surprised more stations aren't sticking to the early switch. Got to rip that band aid off sometime...

As for Park Falls WLEF-DT and it's turning off it's analog transmitter. WPT is reporting that it is going to continue it's analog signal and doesn't seem to clarify what the status of any of it's "satellite" transmitters are...

Last time I was up north I do recall they were going to end analog early but I didn't know it had been achieved yet.

A week or two ago, they sent out an e-mail notice to WPT members in the WLEF viewing area about the analog signal ending on 2/3. Last week on their website, there was a breif message about WLEF now being digital only and having to re-scan, but I don't see it now.

Jon,

Thanks for the reminder about the "re-scan". I know that with the "Up North" Converter we get NBC 12 and PBS 36... 12.X had been sketchy with the current setup and 36.X was passable... With some channel shuffling going on... I appreciate the reminder that "as is" that Converter will probably see NOTHING when it's powered up next time. No need to adjust the rabbit ears a "re-scan" is needed first.

Same thing with CW-18 next week as I recall... A Re-Scan to Digital 18 (from Digital 61) will hopefully be good for me and my aunt (we both don't get 18.1 very well).

I'm assuming no, but is Fox 6 going to bump their power at all when they go all digital? That's the only station that gives me any issues in Watertown.

FYI........

Analog channels 18 & 24 will end normal programming on Feb17th at 11:59:59pm and then start a "Nightlight" service which will run an additional 2 weeks. The analog transmitters will be turned off after the two week period expires.

The WVTV-DT digital channel change from 61 to 18 will not occur right away. With the new rules in place FCC permission is needed in order to change channels prior to June 12th. Of course if the President doesn't sign the delay bill everything happens on Feb 17th as planned (for everybody).

They have a permit to remove the analog 6 antenna from the tower and replace it with new digital antenna, but this likely will not happen right away. It will require a tower crew and new antenna and whatnot that probably won't be available for a while.

Dave,
You are correct but WDJT 58 and it sister station analog 41 which is on 58-2 will stay on until June. But the President has not sign the bill yet as WITI 6 said by law they must keep the date as of 2-17-09 until the President sign the bill and get the new ruling from the FCC but will go along with keeping analog until June, so this is where all the confusing start what if the President don't sign the bill before the 2-17-09 and if he does and will FCC have time to get those new ruling out to stations and make the decison and file the right paper work in time to say yes or no to keep the analog going. So by law the 2-17-09 is the cutoff date and no new law in place that said the June is the new cutoff date. I hope the President don't sigin it. I can see this on 2-17-09 on the news by the way you have less than 18 hours to get your convertor box because all TV station will must shutdown the analog and go only digtial only at Midnight tonight .

I'd agree with that view. Yet, I certainly don't like how they had to make the push for the delay so late in the game.

I'd have preferred something like what jimboy pointed out about a "Nightlight" service where stations could continue Analog for X week(s) after the OFFICIAL 2-17-09 cut off... So if a station(s) got enough requests from viewers that they (the viewer) needed more time (the stations would have PSAs and crawlers) then they'd at least have a chance to get one TV up to digital before Analog went away forever...

Well I wanted to see what analog shutoff might look like so I checked the TV's at my work fitness center, none of which are digital or have converter boxes. Channels 18 and 24 both have English and Spanish text explaining that you need a something capable of receiving digital broadcast, and apparently some information in Spanish. Channel 30 was snow.

Are any other stations planning to shutdown analog before june 12?

CH 18 & 24 will keep analog going for just doing what you saw at the fitness center for short time but ch 30 is all done with analog. all the rest 4,6,10,12,36,41 & 58 will stay on until June, 2009.

Channel 18 analog "died" some time back (it's information "night lite" service went away). I did a "rescan" of my channels and oddly enough Channel 18 (Channel 61 Digital) came up. When they were analog/digital I wasn't able to get 61 on a couple of my TVs. (Stronger Signal?)

Before the "delay" til June I had the understanding that 18-Digital would revert to 18 (from 61-Digital) after Feb 17. I checked antennaweb which originally had the "Post-Transition" listing for 18... but doesn't list it now. Other stations are still listing "Post-Transition" for June... but 18 isn't currently on the list.

Anyone know if 18 is still going to transition from 61 to 18? My aunt and uncle, like me, have been having issues with getting Digital 18 (61) and are hopeful that some future "tweaks" will improve our chances.

What I am hoping in the future for next HD channels are:

SpikeTV-HD
Comedy Central-HD
Chiller-HD
Tennis Channel-HD

Other second priority stuff:

More premium channels in HD. (Why do we only have the base channels like HBO, or Showtime, in HD when their are often 10-15 other sister channels, that could be in HD, but aren't?)

Premium Channels On Demand in HD!

More On Demand Channels in HD!

Who is your provider?

Dish Network just added Spike, Comedy Central and I believe Tennis in HD in the past few weeks...they even finally added Speed and FX in HD

Just wanted to report back that CW18 has "started" reminding viewers to "RE-Scan" CW 18 after 9AM 6-12-09 as they will be switching it's digital transmitter (they didn't explain they'd be moving to UHF 18 or another channel). It also reminds viewers that other local stations will be transitioning by 11:59AM 6-12-09 and we should "re-scan" after that too...

Update 6-12-09 10AM:

CW 18 has indeed transitioned to 18 digital... So far all my TVs/Converters have properly acquired this channel... Hopefully my Aunt will have the same luck.

Now to see how Channel 4 does after noon... it's the only one left I'm having issues with...

FYI, CBS 58 will broadcast on Analog 63 for some time after June 13 (low-power?) for those that don't have digital ready TVs... Their WMLW Channel will broadcast on Analog 41 too...

Is there a 41 Digital? Perhaps I'm just too far away to pick it up in Watertown. 41 analog is hit or miss reception for me.

It has a digital signal on channel 13, but it's identical to the much stronger 58-2.

Weigel is wise to take advantage of the low-power loophole. For those few households that still haven't converted, they'll at least have CBS, WMLW, and maybe Azteca America (channel 38) until they finally get the converter box hooked up.
