I would assume that the cable channel would not change, as they are piping in the feed already. The over the air feed will only affect those who do not have cable and use an antenna to receive the signal. Fox is scheduled to start up on KFTA around 8/28, and should be HD, and will I assume be carried on cable as well. The 7/28 start for OTA is just for those of us that are antenna receiving HD vs. cable.

OTA, probably. On cable systems, probably, but maybe later.

But it could arrive sooner on cable than OTA, since you're paying Nexstar (indirectly, via your monthly cableco bill) to watch their programming.

KNWA-DT (NBC) might be 51-1 or 50-1
KNWA-DT (FOX) might be 51-2 or 50-2

After analog goes dark, I think the FCC should make stations use their real RF channel numbers.

Thanks arxaw. So does this mean when KNWA starts OTA later today that we should look for anything in the range from 50.1 to 51.1 on our scan for new channels? Or will it be 50.1? (not 50 since that is the analog?).

The analog is 51, digital is 50. I wouldn't be surprised if it is on 50-1 at first, and then later that channel disappears and a rescan shows it up on 51-1 just as the kinks get worked out.

If someone gets any updated info or sees it up and running, make sure to post where you are and signal strength!

KFTA-DT 27-1 had their "Please Stand By" KNWA logo up for almost an hour this afternoon starting about 3:00 P.M., with intermittent short outages. Maybe just a coincidence that it happened today?

KFTA-DT 27-1 OTA now has updated PSIP information to indicate that they are actually KFTA-DT, and their system time table now has the correct time. Tuesday they were KPOM-DT and their system time said it was May 30, 2001. So somebody is doing something. But their picture on 27-1 is still 720 x 480i and their signal strength here is the same as it was yesterday.

If their tower is the one going up on 540 just south of the new mall, there were 2 big crains working at it on Wednesday, so maybe they are a bit behind. is analog 51 on the air?

I am picking up KFSM and KHOG OTA with a fixed antenna on my roof (Springdale, West of 540). KNWA's will be located in the opposite direction from me and I know from past experience that there's no way my antenna will pick it up since it's not faced in that direction. Should I get another antenna to face KNWA's way and then somehow feed them into the same line? Or is a multi-directional antenna my only choice?

I would wait until KNWA-DT gets on the air. You may be surprised, especially if you have one of the newer OTA tuners that works with the antenna in almost any direction. The DirecTV H20 receiver is a good example.

Well on another note, I did see a red KNWA work truck on hwy 112 this AM with several boxes in the back, could be a coincidence, and it's the weekend and there is nothing on anyway right now, so I am just stretching....

I'm just east of 540 in North Springdale and pick up KFSM and KHOG OTA well with a $100 pair of electric rabbit ear antenna hidden behind my tv wall unit.

I just called KNWA. The woman on the phone said they were still in the process of installing equipment and she had no idea when they would get on the air.

You might try calling or emailing them:

I sent them an email yesterday, but they have not replied yet. With NBC showing the Hall of Fame NFL game Sunday night in HD, I was hoping they would have their broadcast up and running in time.

..receiving program information for KHOG. I have an antenna to receive the locals, and for some reason I can't get the program information for KHOG. It just says "digital service." Has anyone else encountered this? I've already spoken to the KHOG engineer, and he didn't know why, since he said that they were broadcasting fine.

Thanks

I assume you're talking about KHOG-DT 29-1 OTA.

Not sure about Dish, but on DirecTV, the guide info for OTA channels in your local market comes from DirecTV. They get their guide info from Tribune Media Services, which may also supply guide info for Dish, but I'm not sure. Anyway, KHOG-DT's program guide has been screwed up for a long time, at least in the mornings. It shows "SIGN OFF", instead of the correct program info. I've contacted KHOG, DirecTV and Tribune Media repeatedly, but nothing has ever been done about it. It's a tribune media problem.

When PBS shows HD programming here in Fayetteville, the sound doesn't come on with it, just the video. Does anyone else have this problem? My TV has a built-in tuner so I'm getting it on channel 108.1.

Spoke to KNWA, didn't get the feeling they were going to be on anytime in the immediate future.

They said they had installation problems, and hoped it wouldnt be too long before they were broadcasting.....

You know, I dont even live up there, but that's just plain wrong. They've been advertising July 28 for the past two months.... all about promoting HD and crap... and now "not in the immediate future"? And they saying installation problems? Baloney. More like they are just too damn incompetent to run a television station.

HD OTA From Houston, TX

KPRC 2 (NBC-HD)
KUHT 8 (PBS-HD)
KHOU 11 (CBS-HD)
KTRK 13 (ABC-HD)
KTXH 20 (MNTV-HD)

This does NOT bode well for Nextar's takeover of the local FOX affiliate . . . .

But I must say that via Cox, the KNWA signal is much improved. I don't notice any AV synch issues and they've been exceedingly good at switching the picture over to HD when necessary.

I'm on Cox cable and I pick up my local HD stations through my television's built-in tuner. I can get ABC (29.1), CBS (5.1), and NBC (108.2) in HD but PBS (108.1) is the only station that I have trouble with. Nothing comes up when I'm on ch 13.1.
