I am essentially at the intersection of Elm Springs and I-540. The antenna is facing due south. CBS is the weakest signal at somewhere around 77. NBC is 85 and ABC is 80. I bought the antenna on EBay for about $50.

Interesting. I'm in Harber Meadows. I might be able to pick up everything with the one antenna. I guess I'll try it. Thanks.

theoliver,

This is all anectodal, but when I lived in Little Rock, I used a CM 4221 to pick up stations farther apart directionally than what Arkeng shows for your location. The stations were in different directions by about 200°. Closest station was about 8 miles away and the farthest one was 24 miles. The station at 24 miles was low power.

Hello, This thread has been helpful to me so I figured I'd post my setup so maybe it can help someone else. I am in central Fayetteville at the bottom of a hill to the north. I've got a RCA DTC 210 directv HD reciever that I have had for a couple of years. I just bought a CM 4228 from forum member jmerlos. I put the 4228 in a furnace closet directly behind my TV. The closet goes up to the roof so I hung the antenna right at the underside of the roof pointed north east. I went to radio shack and bought an antenna mounted amp, model # 15-2507. With this setup I am getting PBS, ABC, NBC, and FOX, no CBS. All the channels I get are at 90-100%. I may just leave it as is, since I am not going to worry about grounding the antenna in my house or I might move it outside to see if I can get CBS. I haven't tried pointing the antenna in different directions yet. I tried the antenna with out the preamp and all I got was PBS and ABC with a lot of drop outs. I tried a variety of indoor antennas before and all I could get was ABC. I have an old 70's looking antenna in my attic that I hooked up and got ABC at a steady 100%. One day I got NBC and another day I got PBS. But neither lasted and both dropped out a lot.

I have a brand new CM4228 antenna as well as a CM7777 preamp for sale. Got it last week from Warren Electronics and it's just not going to work for me. All of the hardware and instructions are with them. PM me if anyone's interested.

Well, at least they're getting closer. I've resigned myself to not having FOX HD until they hit our market. I refuse to subscribe to both cable and Directv. I'm guessing D* will be here before Fox upgrades their HD signal.

It's just not getting to Springdale. At least, not to anyone that I've talked to.

KFTA-DT should be reaching at least up to Rogers. If not, I wonder if the station is actually operating at their fully allotted power.

Hopefully they will have FCC permission to crank up the juice soon. Aren't they the ones from an earlier discussion that is still running on limited juice because of their permits?

I heard KFTA-DT 27 is fighting interference complaints from some LPTV station down in Russellville on an adjacent channel.

KFTA filed an application in '04 to increase power to 1,000 kW, but the FCC returned the application. Not sure why it was returned...

This was forwarded to me today...

From KTUL's chief engineer:
"I understand they [cox cable] have requested permission to [carry KTUL-DT] and that we have granted that permission; however, I don't know when this will begin. If I
find out more specifics I will be happy to forward that information to you."

So it looks like KHOG-DT is history on cox cable :-)

Not really an HDTV question but have we lost our CW station on Cox in Fort Smith? I can't find Smallville or Supernatural in the guide. It used to be on channel 8 (KWFT)

That is correct. We have no affiliate for The CW in our market.

The former Fox affiliate (KPBI-CA in Fort Smith) is now with MyNetworkTV, as is the former WB affiliate (KWFT, then KBBL-CA, now KPBI-TV in Eureka). The former UPN affiliate (KFDF-CA in Fort Smith) is now with Retro Television Network.

The rumor is that Equity Broadcasting, owner of these three stations, had a falling out with The CW. That rumor appears to have at least some merit as if you go to Equity's list of stations, you will not see a single CW affiliate. This despite that there used to be many WB and UPN affiliates there.

Well that just sucks. Neither of those shows are available on iTunes, nor does CW offer them for viewing online.

Cox could easily pick up KQCW (5,000kW out of Muskogee) or K15CZ from Springfield, MO (also broadcast on digital sub channel 3-2 on full power KYTV-DT, Springfield). Partial list of CW affiliates can be found HERE.

This is another reason to quit whining and install a decent OTA antenna, instead of being caught in the middle of fights between cablecos and media conglomerates like Hearst-Argyle, Equity, Nexstar, et.al.

I've read this site for quite a while and have gathered much useful information from your posts. For that, I say thanks. It's obvious you are knowledgable about the situations in NWA and HD in general. I do believe, however, that you are a little short sided and offensive about this particular topic.

I'm affected by this KHOG/Cox crap that's going on. I lay most of the blame on Hearst-Argyle and also believe the cablecos are on the raw end of this deal and others like it. That being said, I'm not too lazy to hook up an antenna, however, I'm still ticked off about the situation. Not only do I lose my DVR capability for ABC-HD, which I pay for, I have to switch video inputs to see ABC-HD. This may seem petty, but it's a royal pain in the rear to deal with this right now.

Anyway. I think it's unfair to paint all of us in the same corner who complain about this issue. Just because we complain doesn't mean we aren't working around the issues.

CW Programming

For those of you in the area who can get the Tulsa digital stations OTA, The Tulsa CW affiliate KQCW is also broadcast on KOTV-DT subchannel 6-2. It's on-screen logo says "CW 12," not sure why. I can always get 6-2, but can't get analog 19. Last night's Smallville was a good one...

Maybe they are branded "CW 12" because they are on local cable systems on CH 12? Well I wish I was in your shoes.... it sounds like you are in a good location OTA wise. What else can you get from Tulsa? Can you ever get KTUL-DT?

I agree.

That does seem petty.

Your cableco has gotten retransmission consent from KTUL-DT and is working on getting ABC-HD back on their system for your DVR pleasure. Have a little patience.

Keith, I think you are correct about the CW12. As for Tulsa stations, I can usually get KJRH-DT, KOTV-DT, KOKI-DT, KMYT-DT, and KOED-DT, but I can't get KTUL-DT. They're only transmitting about 7kW and I don't have a VHF antenna.

Well I would love to live up in the hills, my digital OTA reception is troublesome from my location, for one because I live a big distance from any transmitter, and two, my home is in a lower location compared to the average terrain Anly thing relilable 24/7 here is AETN and a SD NBC feed. I can usually get the FOX station in Shreveport in time for primetime. IOW, HD is something I don't take for granted...lol..it's a treat when I can actually watch Letterman or Conan on NBC-HD...

Unfortunately I live in an apartment so right now I don't have the option of installing an outdoor antenna. When I first got my HDTV I tried a small indoor antenna but the reception for HD was not very good.

I just turned on my TV and I noticed that Channel 720 now says KHOG HD, where it had been saying KTUL. Is this a sign that the fight is over?

Okay, so I noticed something kind of odd.

My Cablecard input on channel 720 is still showing KTUL in SD. However, if I go to my other input and tune in 112-1, I see KTUL in HD.

So, what's the deal Cox? You obviously have the signal on your system, but I still have to watch SD programming on channel 720... I tried calling their tech support to fix it, but surprise, got nowhere.

So, for those of you with cable boxes, are you still seeing the SD picture, or are you in HD?

Doubtful... There is no indication at KHOG's website (or the other Hearst-Argyle stations) that an agreement has been reached.

I don't mind at all. As long as I get some ABC station in HD, I really don't care. If I need KHOG for news or whatever, I can watch it on channel 7 (at least for now).
