Since the Big Switch I have been Getting Both WSFA and WCOV (FOX) out of Montgomery every night here in Harris County (Fortson). I watched the Stanley Cup Finals on WSFA because WLTZ had that stupid 38 logo in the middle of the screen. I use WCOV when WXTX becomes obsessed with the weather.

Thank you for this George. Are there any kind of online previews to these box graphical user interfaces? Years ago, I had a satellite box that incorporated a user interface made by Microsoft. It was excellent in allowing easy management of recorded shows. After the satellite company ended their relationship with Microsoft, the new graphic user interface wasn't nearly as effective.
Therefore, I am looking to preview the GUI's before I place an order for either charter cable, another cable company that covers my address, or one of the satellite companies.

Thanks, Scott

Hello everyone,
what channels are available from the bare cable wire? I currently have a digital HD television that receives HD programming from my cable company here in Nebraska without a cable box. is charter cable passing through the full digital signal for those people who have digital HD televisions? Or, is the signal scrambled requiring a box?

My address is serviced by both Charter & Knology.

Thanks, Scott

Greetings ....

It appears that WTVM (VHF Digital 9) has gotten their signal where they want it. It is now coming in nice and steady.

The weird thing for me is that I am still using a UHF bow-tie antenna mounted in a window. But it is aimed in the general direction of the transmitter tower, 25-30 miles away.

So, it looks like I won't need to rely on Phenix Cable (uuuggghh) to watch the British Open golf event next week.

UPDATE: 7-20-2009 -- As expected (YES!), I had very good reception for the British Open golf this past weekend. Of course, at the end the picture was all too clear - Tom Watson's bid for history went bye-bye, and Stewart Cink claimed the Claret Jug.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Video

Can anyone in the Columbus area tell me if WLGA is indeed off for good?

I was pointed to the Wikipedia article for the station, which shows it shut down in June of 2010, but then I came across another wiki claiming it's running the Anime Nation network and has nine subchannels of programming.

I'm skeptical to say the least, so I was hoping someone in the area might know what's going on with WLGA.

Are you referring to the listing on the so-called "Bubblegum Wiki"? I refer you to the front page of said site: "This is not Wikipedia. We post surrealism." It's false.

And it's not gone permanently either. They went silent and can remain silent for a year. They also have a permit to relocate to channel 30 from the top of the WRBL tower.

Whoops.

Well gee that's too bad. I could stand to watch some anime and see if it's any good.

wlga is back on the air
sort of?
it's showing the wtvm weather map
only it's got wlga listed in the right lower corner
maybe wtvm has bought it?
hopefully they are getting ready to come back on the air!

They brought it back on the air to preserve the license. Had it remained off the air for more than a year, the FCC would have deleted the license.

Thanks for the update. I guess it won't be on long, then before it goes poof.

I wonder if weather radar will be enough to satisfy the FCC? I seem to recall a station in Florence getting their license revoked a while back for coming on the air with just color bars.

Weather is actual programming, so it should be fine so long as it has E/I and whatnot.

I noticed that WTVM has moved from channel 47 to channel 11. Has anyone had any reception issues with them moving to VHF?

They moved under STA at reduced power on June 12 2009, and filed to cover the permit on July 17 2009. The FCC is not well known for its amazing speed.

For 23 months they've been operating under "Program Test Authority" which they have as long as the permit is valid and, in this case, a license to cover is on file with the FCC, which it was.

I think it's the old wlga full power
coming in @ 47.3
if so, the transmitter is in Cussetta, Georgia
originally in Opelaka, Alabama as analog 66
later being on dtv 31 and moving to dtv 47 when WTVM moved from dtv 47 to dtv 11
then they went DARK
they had the CW Network and lost it to 38
went off the air shortly after that....

also, don't remember ever seeing an HD signal on this channel

Hmm. How odd.

WLGA only has a construction permit to operate on RF channel 31, but has an older pending application to move to 47, which should have been superseded by the request to move to channel 30. I know on my TV I can tune the actual RF channel and append ".3" to tune the xx.1 subchannel, so maybe this is what you're seeing? If so, it seems odd that they would already be broadcasting on a channel they were not approved for just yet, unless the FCC database is woefully out of date (which is possible.) Or maybe they just got the PSIP messed up. Anything's possible with that station!

There's a permit for a LDTV station on 47 as well, W47EB-D, but I'm skeptical it'd be on so soon, being owned by a spectrum warehouse type company, as far as I know.

Edit to add: I see the latest request to remain silent from June 2012 was denied by the FCC.

WLGA filed to cover their permit for 47 back in 2009, which the FCC has yet to approve. So they are allowed to operate on channel 47.

Their permit to build channel 30 is valid until at least next February and perhaps beyond, depending on whether or not it was tolled during the Pappas bankruptcy.

The silent request was filed in April and was dismissed after they told the FCC they went back on the air since it was no longer needed.

Greetings ....

UPDATE: 8-15-2012

After going off the air for a few days, WLGA 47-1 is now back on.

Weather Nation is all they are transmitting, but now you can see the letters W L G A on the lower left portion of the screen, and occasionally you get local forecasts.

Greetings ....

Noticed only just this morning that WLGA is transmitting on both 47-1 and 30-1.

Are we to assume that WLGA will eventually switch from 47 to 30? If yes, what will happen to 47?

It looks the paperwork states WTVM is moving to a new tower. Lower ERP with a larger height. 39.2kW in 554 m.

Currently, there is a (click-on »») signal carriage agreement dispute between WTVM and the Mediacom company, one of the cable service providers in the Columbus Georgia market. Any thoughts on this?

Now the same dispute is going on with Dish Network. We have actually lost it all together currently. I am trying to figure out what antenna setup to go with to pick them up I have tried an omnidirectional indoor antenna but got nothing from WTVM.
