Did they get the antenna up before the storms today? I guess the bigger question is did the guys get down the elevator before the storms hit?

WSOC and WAXN appear to be back at full power Sun night as I am getting 10 bars on 9.1 and 3-5 on 64.1. Looks like I may now be able to see 64.1 more often at night with their new antenna and more power.

By midnight, WAXN ranged from 6-10 bars and WSOC remained a solid 10. WCCB is at 8-10. Seems like their work may be done as I am now seeing good overnight reception. Although I will lose these channels by 10am, they usually return by 7:30pm. The Dallas signals remain solid all day, ranging from 8-10 lead by WBTV. Sometimes lose WCNC due to overnight weather conditions.

Structure issues will require WSOC and WAXN to go to reduced power doing the daylight hours on July 12th, (Tuesday)..Depending on the outcome of these repairs, more reduced power days maybe needed. At the end of all work, WAXN-TV will increase to 150Kw, DA, Horiz polar....109Kw, DA, Vertical polar.

Has anyone had any problems with WSOC tonight (Wed night) after 1130pm? This station was acting very eractic on me. The signal meter was first in the high 90s, then it dropped as low at 38% when the picture dropped out completely. Then back again between the 50's, 60's, 80% and back down again to 40%. All of this in the space of a few minutes apart.

With my long range antenna and amplier, I normally get a good (consistent signal) on RF34 WSOC during the day and night. However, tonight was very much the exception.

Note: I don't expect a consistent signal on RF50 for WAXN. But, again, this is was not expected on main WSOC since it operates at higher power and there seems to be no bad weather in the area.

Had some drop out issues with WSOC and WCCB last night but I believe it was due to weather conditions and storms in Clt area. And I am just beyond their coverage area, but I often do see WSOC overnight. WAXN is also appearing now, but not as strong as WSOC. But I seldom saw it before the antenna/power upgrade, so that does seem to be an improvement.

AntennaTV's website has updated their map to include WJZY, with a pop-up note saying, "early August".

Regarding WCCB (ch 27): Down here in North Charleston I received it at up to 24 dB (signal-to-noise ratio) last night. This summer I have been receiving WCCB at least seven nights per month, once at more than 28 dB. I got WBTV (ch 23) last night also, 19 to 20dB. It is not possible to get WSOC (ch 34), WJZY (ch 47) or WAXN (ch 50) here because there are stations in Charleston on those channels. WCNC (ch 22) never comes in here either, at least partially due to WJCL (ch 22) in Savannah, which I can see most nights.

That's impressive, especially with your ability to get WCCB up to 24 db and seven nights per month.

I guess there must've been some bad storms in the CLT area last night b/c my coverage was no where near what I am used to. I've been gone all day and evening. Right now, main WSOC on RF34 is up to 97% on the signal meter.

The only weird thing now is WAXN. As we know, RF50 does not put out a lot of signal to the east and north.....particuarly now with the directional antenna to the west and south. However, I am getting 'some' signal on that while nothing at all from RF36 CH 64-7 out of China Grove.

Does anyone know if there's a problem with WAXN out of China Grove? I always get this signal, except for the last two days evenings in a row. I haven't been home during the day to check it but I assume it's been out the whole time (at least for me up here).

I am using a Winegard 7698 antenna, 42 ft above sea level (30 ft above the ground). The UHF section of it is enhanced: I extended the end of the boom and added five UHF director elements from the 8084 antenna I was replacing. And it is grounded: It helps that the junk signals received by the coaxial shielding are dumped to earth ground, rather than being allowed to bleed through to the center conductor and reduce my signal-to-noise ratio. Nevertheless, I doubt that I will get quite such stellar reception results once summer atmospheric conditions have ended.

Mad respect for your DX skills regarding WCCB. I'm 76ml away & daytime is a bit iffy but night time is solid. You must be 175ml away! Love to see a pix of your setup. Are you using a military grade preamp?

Can you provide any updates on RF36 WAXN out of China Grove? I have not seen the signal off this translator in several days. Is there an outage? Thank you for any feedback.

To Bordershy:

Channel Master 7778 pre-amplifier, fed into RG6 Quad-Shield cable. I provide the antenna setup and God provides the atmospheric conditions. Last night I watched the 11pm news on WBTV, then a few minutes of a program about Lake Mead on WCNC's subchannel. Distance to WBTV's 2,000-ft tall tower: 181 miles.

What is amazing is that, with the antenna aimed at Gaston County, the tuner of my Sony TV was detecting something on channel 11, though the signal was not strong enough to view. I verified that WTOC-11 in Savannah was not coming in strongly enough to be what I was getting. Surely it could not have been WTVI!

This is a strange situation. When I pull up my signal strength meter, I am (currently) getting about 87% on RF36 WAXN from China Grove. However, I get no picture at all on RF36. The screen is completely black with some brief flashes of light (not pixelations--just occasional flashes of light on a black screen). It has now been this way for about 5 days while no other channels have been affected.

As the crow flies, my house is 38 miles from this translator in China Grove. I have always gotten a picture on RF36 (day and night) from the time my antennas were installed a half a year ago. I did a re-scan of my channels but it didn't make any difference. Also, both of my TVs (on separate antennas) are behaving in this same manner concerning RF36. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this. Appreciate it.

That was strange. Last night, I picked up WAXN on channel 64.1 perfectly.

Today: Nothing.

What is the wattage for this station now?

I still can't pick up WMYT. I get it a few minutes a month. I suppose a bird flies into the signal path on occasion and bounces it my way.

What watts is WMYT tossing out there?

WAXN now has a directional pattern, with the main lobe at 215 degrees True of the tower site. The null is back toward WFMY-TV tower site in Greensboro, as we must now protect Channel 51. The 41 dbu line is pushed out about 5 miles to the SW and pulled in about the same to the NE. That is why WAXNTV1, China Grove was granted, to fill in the null. All work in completed. With the exception of a tower inspection on Wednesday by KPFF, which will reduce power for an hour or two...All power levels are at 100%.
