Congress took itself out of the loop. It delegated power to the FCC to control airwaves. Congress could vote tomorrow, if it wished, to abolish the FCC and take over direct control. Of course it won't because there is no need, or push, for it to do so.

Hey Bob, I got a message from you that I was unfortunately unable to open. The captions are good now. But unfortunately the pixelating and freezing that others have spoken of, was still happening this morning quite a bit.

My tuner sorted things out this way:

25.1 WOLO ABC, Columbia
25.1 WDMC Charlotte's low power bible thumper channel
25.2 WOLO (appears to be a duplicate of the primary 25.1 HD signal)
25.3 WOLO Weather
25.4 WOLO MeTV
I get this with WGSR and WRPX, although it's rare that WRPX comes in. It's pretty cool.

Escape looks good here and I like the correct 16:9 full screen aspect ratio. Looks like a nice addition for CLT.

The program guide for Antenna TV has been working fine on 18.2 since launch, but 18.5 from Valdese is still showing "Antenna Tv August 15th!!". I hope that gets fixed soon because 18.5 comes in much better here.

I was glad to see 64.3 Escape in 16:9 aspect ratio. However, Escape apparently has some widescreen movies in their library were were cropped to 4:3. The movie "Final Analysis" was originally 1.85:1 in theaters, perfect to display as-is on a 16:9 TV. Instead, what Escape aired was cropped (a.k.a. butchered) pan-and-scan 4:3. To make that worse, it was then stretched horizontally back to 16:9. Gad, Richard Gere and Kim Basinger looked short and fat!

Previews of many movies on Escape appear to be in correct 16:9 format, so hopefully "Final Analysis" was just an outlier.

I noticed after I posted, that unlike Movies! the aspect ratio on Escape isn't dynamic. Unfortunate that. Also getTV seems to have changed somewhat too. 16:9 is no longer shrunk down, but you have to manually adjust it back to 16:9 to get full screen.

AntennaTV released its new fall schedule. For early risers, the one-two combo of "Burns and Allen" at 5:00 a.m. and "Patty Duke" at 6:00 a.m. is going to be a nice accompaniment to the first several cups of morning coffee. Me-TV also released its new schedule today.

I guess Patty Duke has moved from THIS to Antenna. Burns and Allen is pretty good, but like most shows on AntennaTV they have been constantly running it since they were on the air. Most of their programming changes are to move the same show to different time slot. Personal preference I guess. If you have seen neither, definitely worth watching.

I have been watching the classic Dr. Who on RetroTV. Some of those episodes have not been seen on broadcast TV since the 1960s, and never on American TV. A lot of the early episodes were lost for a long time as the BBC of the 1960s & 1970s had a bad habit of throwing out old film & video reels and reusing video tape to save money. Over the last 5 years or so, there have been efforts to restore old discovered episodes. This is what Retro is showing now. Retro is also showing One Step Beyond. It's pretty bad kinescoped material but I'm glad they are showing it anyway. Too bad there are only two stations in NC that carry Retro TV.

I'm also looking forward to Chips (yeah it's pretty much trash, but hasn't been on TV in a while), and more so The Man From U.N.C.L.E. It hasn't been re-run on TV, as far as I know, for many many years. Both will be on MeTV.

I was watching Archie and the Meathead last night on AntennaTV, and found that the captions are whacked out, with all of the same problems previously ascribed to the captions on MeTV. This is apparently a problem that WCCB has, because the captions were always fine when Antenna was on 46.2. But MeTV's captions were bad back then as well.

Like FOX Eng says..looks some shows on the AntTv feed may have bad captions. All the shows I have seen today have been good on my tv, I did see some yesterday that were bad.

Saw a promo for "Black Sheep Squadron" coming in September, but I can't remember which channel. Glad to be able to see those bent wing Corsairs again, boring holes in the sky and blasting away at AT-6s painted as Zeke-lookalikes.

WOLO 25.1 is RF 8.

Also ThisTV and AntennaTV are owned by the same company as WGN America.

BTW, WBTV's parent company Raycom are in a possible dispute with DirecTV. Fortunately Senators Thune and soon-to-be-retiring Rockefeller introduced a new provision called local choice. http://www.americancable.org or http://www.americantelevisionalliance.org has the info.

Hey Bob, is there any chance that when changes are made at the station to fix the freezing and pixelating issue described by some last week, that captions whack out, and accordingly when the captions are fixed, the pixelating starts again?

The main difference that I see between AntennaTV and MeTV is that MeTV shows more dramas (cop shows, westerns, some sci fi). AntennaTV is almost entirely comedy, except for the movies that it airs.

I think WBTV is running a bit behind schedule with the launch of Grit TV on 3.3. I guess still coming soon.

It's not really that anyone is taking Congress "out of the loop". Congress is a legislative body, not an executive agency or an "independent agency" like the FCC (subject to congressional oversight but somewhat more independent than many executive departments) . Congress can pass laws and set out requirements and guidelines, but you can't expect 100 senators and 435 representatives to do the day-to-day work of designing and conducting a spectrum auction.

My goodness, Congress has enough trouble just passing appropriations bills. The last thing we need is for senators and congresscritters to start deciding which frequencies should be allocated to which stations!
