I hope it stays that way. Maybe some tall buildings are trapping some signal for you. That's pretty amazing, if it can remain consistent. I have gotten many of those, but not for long.

WSOC is doing a retrospective on Eastern Airlines 212 which crashed in Charlotte 40 years ago today. At the time it was the worst airline crash in the USA in terms of #s dead. I didn't realize until today that it was also on 9/11.

I remember this crash as I was a teenager at the time and knew a couple first responders that went out to it. They were both pretty shook up.

It will be on the 5pm news.

I remember that as a kid myself at the time. Do you remember the detail that there was one flight attendant who actually walked away from the crash?

Fox46 ND Has Left the Building

After only being on the job for a little over a year, the FOX46 News Director has left the building. Probably has nothing to do with their "trend-setting" news format -

I assume that just 1,700 viewers for the 6pm news during the July sweeps didn't go unnoticed.

That 6pm & 10pm news broadcast needs a lot of work, better talent, and someone in charge who might enforce some sort of journalistic standard beyond that of none. There needs to be a lot more house cleaning.

They hit a homerun with that morning newscast. I think they need to expand that.

If you are in one f the high rise buildings in Uptown Charlotte, then you should get good reception from the neighboring markets. Used to be that way with analog when I worked up there in 2004. Got some Greensboro, WSPA, and WLOS back then. So I guess digital reception could be good also.

They have done a good job with the morning show on WJZY. But the 6pm and 10pm newcasts indeed need an overhaul. Hopefully more of a standard style newscast with anchors at a desk. Similar to other strong FOX stations such as Atlanta and DC.

Ch46 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WJZY before the big switch from 18 (fox) to 46 fox happened, used to be the strongest signal for any of my TVs (4). I have different independent anteaneas hooked to each TV. two have preamps. two are converter boxes.

I live less than 35miles from the transmitter (according to wiki link above).

I have noticed for the past 12+months that the signal will drop for about 4 to 8 tenths of a second nearly every 3 or so minutes. No matter if it's the converter box upstairs or the LG37" downstairs. In fact, I can no longer watch the Panthers football games because I end up missing part of the play. NO other channel on OTA does this for me at all. (I do have issues with catching WTVI 42 but that's a VHF thing :>) )

Hoping you could give me some insight,

speedy22
Multipath? Have similar issues with my strongest channel also, transmitted on low VHF. Any new buildings/structures between you & transmitter?

Hey Bob, I noticed Transmission B is active again. But when I see the captions all aflutter, I always think you are probably fine-tuning or installing some new equipment which will makes things better in the long run.

Well, line of sight between me and that tower is WDAV 88.9FM radio tower. But it's been there the whole time. Tower is less than 2miles from me.

You may need to go to Radioshack and add an FM Trap. And perhaps try without the preamp which could be overloading. That could cause dropouts.

I will give it a shot on both with and without preamp setup and let you know.

Thanks

The article says "Jerry Kent, chairman and CEO of Suddenlink Communications said“We need flexibility of working with programmers to deliver lower-priced tiers,” durring a panel at June’s 2014 Cable Show. Otherwise, he said, the government may step in to mandate a la carte pricing, “or we’ll have to take a hard look at what programming we want to continue carrying.”

Well, now, shouldn't the cable companies ALWAYS have been looking carefully at the programming and rejecting a lot of it and only carrying worthwhile channels? I have no sympathy for cable systems who have been delivering wretched fare such as the Kardashians, the Duck Hunters, and the Phony Conservatives Channel and only now are seeking to be more careful.

Why must WBTV show 3 hours of infomercials instead of the early CBS NFL game? WSPA is carrying both the early Atlanta/Cincinatti game, as well as the later Kansas City/Denver game. Another good reason to have an antenna for more options.

NFL rules. When the Panthers are home they are the only game on in their time slot. That doesn't apply yo secondary markets, so WSPA can show a game

Until the NFL stops giving a free ride to criminals, the fewer games the better.

WBTV has very little real programming outside of professional sports, endless "newsertainment", and the CBS feed. If they can't show one of those, then it's basically infomercials. They are one of the worst in the market about it.

It was a better station when Jefferson Pilot ran it.

It has always been this way for markets that have a team. There are rarely exceptions, week 1 this year being one because of the tennis coverage.

Charlotte, Nashville, Cleveland and NYC did not get an early CBS Game. Tampa and San Diego did not get a late CBS game. Curse of living in a town with a NFL Team.

WCWG is the CW for Greensboro DMA. Licensed to Lexington. It is usually the easiest OTA station from that farm to get.

I was referring to the infomercials, not as much the blackouts.

NFL attempts to keep people from watching their entertainment don't mean much to me. I never really understood the concept of watching others paid to play sports. Like watching paint dry. I'd rather play them myself and it's good for staying in shape too. But Raycom should do better than just sticking informercials on their stations during these blackout periods.
