Both WBTV and WSPA have 1 HD channel and 2 subchannels so I may see how they compare during the game.

Plus, the audio on CBS's football broadcasts is head and shoulders better. FOX amps up the continuous crowd roar to the point that it often overpowers the play-by-play announcers. Hard as heck to decipher what those guys are saying, most of the time.

Based on my last few TiVo Recordings WSPA gives their main channel about 14mb, where WBTV gives theirs about 12MB. Until WSPA added Ion it was much more one-sided. Often I'll record on WSPA & WBTV on my TiVo as a backup, the WSPA recordings are always larger.

Rates that close are not really that much of a factor anymore... it depends more on encoder vintage, chipset, whether single or multipass, and local setup & configs. There are considerable settings available in modern encoders that have to be set.
I have seen newer encoders running much lower bit rates look a lot better than older ones at higher rates.

It's like saying a V8 can always out run a V6...

It would look much better with 12Mbps transmitting MPEG-4, Unless you have a larger TV 60"> that extra 2Mbps will not make a difference to the eye.

True, most channels get between 8-10mb on Charter, with some being higher, and I'm not complaining about quality hardly ever. WSPA & ESPN are the two highest. WSPA usually runs about 14, and ESPN clocks in at well over 16, almost 17.

That's pretty good for ESPN, their feeds are 18Mbps of MPEG-4.

TWC has actually gotten a bit better here of late from what I can see.

..and the ESPN DSR-6100's can transcode the mpeg4 to mpeg2 for catv systems that don't yet have mpeg4 set tops.
My 3 are set that way to feed the QAM modulators.

That's a good way to ruin a quality picture..

They look about the same to me both stations. And no subchannels dropped. But not happy with the game itself.

Definitely a disappointment, but honestly leading up to the game I had a sinking feeling that it was going to be like the Patriots/Giants Super Bowl a few years back when the Patriots SHOULD have finished running the table, but were upset.

I thought the Fox playoff games looked better than the Superbowl on my 4K TV. Maybe it's got something to do with 720P being easier to upscale than 1080i.

OR...

720p = 60 fps
1080i = 30 fps

But that isn't the entire story. The amount of data sent/frame is larger than 1080i than 720p.
