In order to gauge HDTV activities and development, I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of HDTV job postings were out there. I just did a quick search on monster.com, and got some hits. It was about what I would expect,
Zenith had a lot of postings for hardware & software engineers in the Chicago area. They wanted people for work on "the next generation of Pro-Demodulator, VSB Translator and Modulator Correction products". They want people with VxWorks (embedded OS) experience.
Thomson / RCA is looking for HDTV engineers in Indianapolis.
And Echostar was looking for IT people, but they used HDTV in their company description - to sell the company to candidates. They also mention their plans for Spot Beam rollout:
Are you looking for a stable employer and with cutting edge products and exceptional service? Look no further than us. EchoStar Communications ? is the leader in the Direct Broadcast Satellite industry. Our primary product - DISH Network, has won numerous awards and our service has been ranked number one by the J.D. Power and Associates for last two years. Here?s a small sample of what our R&D department has produced: DISH HD receiver - an integrated satellite TV receiver with the ability to receive HDTV signals - we already provide three 24 hour channels in HD content. DISH Network DVR 501 offers an advanced satellite TV receiver with internal hard drive for 30 hours of digital video recording and other interactive TV services. And that?s just the beginning? We have six satellites in orbit with two more advanced, high-powered direct broadcast satellites (DBS) featuring spot-beam technology that will be launched 4Q this year and by 2Q 2002.
and, DirecTV was looking for Accountants.. I hope they are also getting HDTV people from some other sources. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif
Phillips had a bunch of listings on hotjobs.com. They talked about STB's, HDTV, PVR's. (hopefully in one box). They are right in my back yard, maybe I should go check them out.
Also saw listings for a bunch of smaller companies.
"and, DirecTV was looking for Accountants.. "
Obviously they need someone to count the money when they sell the business. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif
