Good points made. The studios have tried for yeard to place "bounty" on recordable media (Cd's, VHS, Mini Disc).
They failed on CDRW's. They are trying real hard to "get it right" with HDTV recording. DVHS never really stood a chance as only a handfull of models ever became available to the masses.

I am sitting on the fence right now as it relate to HDTV. I WAS ready to buy a HDTV-ready set. But, I need to see how the DVI/Firewire/DTHC crap plays out. I guess I could just get a 32 in flat screnn model and toss it in the guest room in 2 years!!

"Studio Master" will always have a higher bitrate than ATSC fed OTA/Sat HDTV. So all us OTA & DBS users will suffer with more artifacts.

Actually when I go to the movie theaters these days I notice that the projected film has more "picture shake", and "edit gaps" then when watching HDTV at home. And then there is the occurence of the projectionist futzing (and not getting quite right) the focus.

10. Because Jack Valenti said it would be a cold day in hell before it would happen on non copy protected systems.
9. How would they continue to sell the same material over and over again with incremental improvements otherwise?
8. Because it's in the wrong aspect ratio.
7. There's not enough film grain in the image.
6. There's noticable aperture correction (edge enhancement).
5. Your friends are not constantly asking if they can come over and watch.
4. The image looks worse then what you recently saw at the local megaplex.
3. It looks a little better then your best DVD.
2. It looks just like the DVD.
And the number one sign you're not getting full studio master quality is...........

1.You're watching FOX.

I want you to go to the window, open it, stick your head out and yell: "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!"

Did IQ's suddenly drop sharply while I was away?
I enjoy 3D in spite of HDMI 1.4!
Full screen only 3D doesn't cut it!
