Does anyone in New York City receive the HDTV signals for ABC (45) and UPN WWOR (38). For CBS, NBC, FOX and the WB at various times of the day I receive their HDTV channel. For ABC and UPN WWOR not even the slightest signal. I want to know if I'm the only one with this problem, do I have the wrong channels or are they just not broadcasting yet in NYC.

Rocco,

As far as ABC...yes they do some very limited HD broadcasting. NYPD Blue is shown in HD on Tuesday nights at 10:00 PM. This is a good time to do any "fine tuning" to receive ABC.

As far as UPN, I know they are not doing HD but I thought they were doing SD on their digital channel.

Go to www.hdtvgalaxy.com and click on "what"s on" to see the schedule for HDTV for the week. It will show which shows are broadcast by who and if they are in DD5.1.

WABC-DT 45 and WWOR-DT 38 are on the air 24 hours a day. New Hyde Park is only around 20 miles from the stations. In theory you should have good reception. What is your antenna setup? How do analog channels 31, 41, and 47 come in?

With the disasters in NYC this is now the least of all our concerns. There are no signals. I guess I won't be able to test this for a while. I appreciate all your help.

It is very likely HDTV is NY is largely gone for some time.

The HDTV transmitters at the Empire State Building are in some cases being converted to analog to replace the lost facilities at WTC.

I believe channel 11 WPIX is being transmitted today from the formerly-digital facility on ESB.

The exception to this of course will be WCBS, which maintained an analog backup at ESB and wnt on the air there shortly after WTC was lost.

WCBS-DT should not be affected.

Analog TV signals have always been fibered to most tristate cable headends so cable viewers never lost signals.
