I have no words, except to express my deepest sympathies, and thanks for the help you've given everyone in this forum.

I'll be here complaining on the weekends, but during the week I'm in Jacksonville. Tonight's Super Bowl broadcast was typical in its ugliness, and whatever converter they're using for audio is horrendous -- I think it's omitting the center channel of the 5.1.

In Jax, it's the opposite problem -- beautiful picture (no subchannels) but Dolby 2.0. Oh well.

I noticed in the past few weeks that I can no longer receive CBS 28.1 over the air using our indoor antenna. I'm wondering if anyone knows if anything changed? Scanning for it doesn't help, either. Odd.

Thanks,
Ray

Is this right? I don't get 5.1 sound on either of these channels (OTA). I do however get 5.1 on WOGX and WCJB. What's going on here?

Just wondering if it's possibly my setup...

Thanks!

Ugghh... nothing frustrates me more (in tv land). I hate that CBS carries the SEC for just this reason. I much prefer the picture I get on the ABC affiliate.

For some reason though, I'm not all that impressed with WNBW, it seems like I get blocking on "The Office" and other shows that I don't see on ABC when watching LOST for instance.

Really? I've never seen a single artifact on WNBW, and the signal is so extremely strong bandwidth-wise that there aren't even the deinterlacing issues that come up on CBS.

The opposite is the situation where I am now, in Jacksonville, where the CBS is full-signal and the NBC has two subchannels. They have the weird-ass "640x480 versions of the same thing" subchannels on most of the stations there, too. I have no idea what the point of that is, because every single digital tuner can crop to 4:3 anyway, for people who don't enjoy watching television.

For the last couple of days Channel 51-1, WOGX has been fading out here. The picture will start sparkling, then blocking, then go to black. Signal = 0 on the meter. Rotating the antenna does nothing, signal still solid zero. It will eventually come back up the same way it faded out. It has been doing this for two days now off and on. Any ideas? Interference or transmitter link problems?

Down for me too. Which sucks considering the SEC tourney is on. I guess it would suck more if the Gators had beaten MSU last night.

You know, after watching the recent slate of Thursday shows, I agree with you. I'm still bummed by the lack of surround sound though.

Hey, guys. Just wondering what might be my best antenna option. I live on the SW corner of campus, near Sweetbay. My complex doesn't allow outdoor antennas, so indoor is the only option. There are quite a few tall trees near by, but I'm on the second story. From what I've read, the Silver Sensor and the Terk HDTVa are both good. According to antennaweb, I'm within 20 miles of all the stations (ABC-6.8, NBC-12, FOX-19, CBS-12, etc). Any ideas?

Thanks

Can anyone else confirm the channels:

980 - DXDHD
981 - EpixHD
982 - Hallmark HD
983 - Epix

I can't tune them because it says I need to pay but I'm suspecting some new channels coming.

But what do one have to be subscribed to in order to get them?

Good question? I am subscribed to all channels so I would not be a good source for that answer.

Usually it's the SD version of the channel. EPIX is in the Movie Pak. Hallmark is in the Variety Pak. Don't see a Disney XD but if it's not there with just plain digital cable, I'd guess Variety Pak. I'm fairly certain I didn't get it and I have digital and the Sports Tier.

WNBW is back fine for me but does anyone know what happened to the WCJBabc/cw signal? A few days ago it went from the strongest signal I had to one of the weakest.

Where did everyone go? It has been a while since I have looked at this forum that was active at the time and now it seems to be very quiet.

Has there been any improvements in outdoor antennas over the last few months? I am back in the market for one that can pick up some HDTV about 55 miles away.

Thanks,
Ray

DIRECTV will begin to roll-out new HD local markets in June with Biloxi-Gulfport, Miss.; Idaho Falls-Pocatello, Idaho; and Joplin-Pittsburg, Mo.

In the third quarter, DIRECTV will launch HD local service to Albany, Ga.; Columbus, Ga.; Gainesville, Fla.; and Montgomery-Selma, Ark.

For customers who live within the designed area of each market, DIRECTV will deliver HD programming from the primary broadcast networks - ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC - where available.

It's about time that DirecTV got locals in the Gainesville. Although I finally got my antennas up high enough with guy wires so I no longer have a problem getting OTA. I wonder who they will use for NBC? I'm still getting NY distant.

DirecTv will provide local signals from WCJB, WGFL. WOGX, and WNBW. They will no longer be able to offer WNBC (New York) as a distant network in the Gainesville metro.

Hi, my name is John and the reason I e-mailed you was to inquire about TV antennas in the area of Old Town. We have a summer camp off of SR 351 and would like to install an antenna. Do you have any recommendations? how about the use of a multi-directional? I've done some research and found that at our location we could pick-up stations 23,57.1,14,36.1 9.1,28.1,31.and 20.1. What has been your experience with any of these channels??

Thanks

Checking in to say I am around. Though busy on other stuff these days as the transition form me is over. Still some glimmer of hope that either WNBW takes out it's null (but I doubt as it's now almost a year) or WESH-24 has enough stuff to reach my house on a high gain yagi.
It's pretty obvious now the owners of WNBW only put enough power on the air to call it full power station and get on must carry rules and now satellite. The future of OTA keeps looking dimmer and dimmer with the money in wireless lobbyists certainly to take it away in the next 5 to 10 years.
Spending a lot of time over at DTVUSAForum.com but it's not hopping like it was either.

- Please don't PM with any thing that could be useful to the general group.

Welcome back sir. There will probably be lots of antenna's for sale once D* gets our LIL's going. The only advantage to keeping the antenna (s) that I can think of would be for those heavy rainstorms like we had yesterday. The OTA keeps its signal while the DBS might get rain fade. I'm not sure if PQ is still an issue with D* and compression of the stream but it used to be that OTA would give you better Picture Quality. But then the broadcaster decides to rob bandwidth from the primary to feed a sub-channel (hello, CBS?) and you get blocking. We really are looking forward to D* getting locals here finally. Now if Sprint would bring 4G to us then my broadband speed would greatly improve (no cable or DSL).

All three channels are down. Sure hope they come back up by 6am because European Journal is only broadcast once per week with no repeats

Oh what the heck!? So PBS seemed off-the-air again tonight, so I started flipping channels, and there it is at 36-1 36-2 36-3 ?!

5-1 5-2 and 5-3 are blank!

When I push the program info button on any of the 36-x channel, it's empty and there is no station id.

Also just made the mistake of doing a full scan instead of an update and I lost WOGX and can't get it back.

Why can't DTV boxes have manual input for the channels!

Hey I just did a re-scan update and got 10-1 WLUF !!!

That's the low power station right? With the educational stuff I like.

They must have increased their transmit power, I have not changed my antenna.

Yup it's different than WUFT-2 and WUFT-3

so one more channel, yay!

WLUF-LP has a permit to build a digital facility on VHF channel 5 at 300 watts (analog on channel 10, if it is still on the air) and should map to virtual channel 10. It is run by UF-Gainesville. Maybe they got it on the air. Contact the university and see where they are.
