Many months ago we had a DirecTV tech out because of an issue with our satellite dish. He informed us that D* would begin offering locals in Aug. or Sept. As excited as I was to hear the news, I wasn't sure I could believe him. I went to D* website this morning and saw that, indeed, they're rolling out locals to us in September. Does anyone know when in September this will begin? I'm so excited to get the locals. My antenna never allowed me to pick up all the stations at once. I had to choose, which caused us to pay more for DNS PBS and NBC.

Isn't it great. DirecTV has been on schedual so it will be in September. There are websites that track their progress.

FYI, DirecTV has the Gainesville locals up in testing. They could launch as early as a week from now (the 15th).

WOW, This is great news.
How will we know when they are available?

If you have HD already, they simply should appear in your guide when they become available. If you don't have HD, they will require HD-capable equipment.

OK, I guess I would have to have all channels selected in my guide and not just my favorites?

Any idea what range of channels these would be located in?

Also one of our receivers is not HD, will I still be able to receive them on this set?

Thanks.

I think you will have to add them to your favorites list. Otherwise, yes, you would need to have all channels displayed in the guide to see them pop up.

The channels in test right now are 5, 9, 20, 51, and 53 and that's where they should appear in the guide.

The receiver that isn't HD will not be able to receive them, because Gainesville will be an MPEG4-only market. However, if you wait until the locals launch, DirecTV will probably upgrade that receiver for free (no promises, but they typically do this in these situations).

Do I need the 5 LNB slimline dish to receive these?
I only have the 3 LNB slimline (one Hub) right now but receive all the HD channels.

Your 3 LNB is exactly what you need, they'll be coming from 103W.

OK, Great.

So you think next Wednesday the 15th is the day for Gainesville?
Maybe sooner?

The 15th is almost certainly the earliest they would be added (check at or shortly after 6am). If not the 15th, then the 22nd. They like to add new channels on Wednesday mornings.

Thanks, Bama for all the great info.

We have been waiting a long time for these channels.

Would it be updated on the DirecTV site where you put in your zip code for the locals at the same time as they go live or is the site way behind?

Lately they actually update that section of the site a couple of hours before they turn the channels on.

It's Wednesday morning the 15th of September and the Gainesville, FL locals are up and working fine on DirecTV.

It's about time

The HD quality is not so hot on a few of the channels but I guess this is the broadcast station problem and not DirecTV's fault.

It's a little sad how excited I get over some things. YAY!

I'd already heard D* likes to roll out the locals on Wednesday. I came to check if someone had heard any news (should have just turned on the TV). They're here!!!

Thanks Everyone.

I see a CW & MY11 grayed out here:

http://home.comcast.net/~directvlocals/dtvlil-city.html

Any chance we will see these 2 channels in the near future in our new Gainesville locals?

After coming home to see the new TV Guide version of my DVRs GUI, I am not happy with it. I is a lot harder to use than old software. I have been unable to go from day to day in one click like in the old system. I also have been unable to find out how to display space usage.

I am really unhappy that all my recording selections on the old OS were not forwarded to the new OS. Also I have found no way to make save option a permanent selection to "manual removal" as opposed to "remove when space is needed".

Has anyone found a manual for this GUI?

Thanks

Is WLUF bouncing all over the place today for anyone else or is it just me?

All my other channels are fine. Maybe their broadcast antenna is shaking for some reason?
