I'm thrilled for you and noticed in the Philly post that you've had FIOS internet for some time? I'll be interested to hear of other Delawareans experiences with Verizon as this becomes more available throughout the state.

Apparently it is now being rolled out to the CO's of Talleyville and Hockessin / Pike Creek.

Great deals - first month discount of $34 - then, $5 / month off if you do a 1 year contract.

I ordered pretty much everything - with 1 HD-DVR and 1 HD box. The 3rd TV in the house, which is really only used for XBox live, will only have the local channels and no STB.

Now if I could only find out when they're rolling out more HD channels! ARGH!

What is your status with FIOS? Last I read (Philly thread??) you were having some issues?

Unfortunately, Verizon tells me that my development isn't slated to be lit until 1Q 2008...
Now mind you, I live in a developement on Rt 40 and am right there at 896...Rt 40 is wired up and down but they won't make into my community until at least summer to begin the conduit work

Damn!! We've had FIOS down here for about a year but still can't get the FIOS TV!

The second that happens, I'm dropping mediacom like their signal during an HD broadcast.

The subcontractor just came down my street running the conduit. Wonder how long it will be before they pull in the fiber and light it up.

Jeepmatt - is Verizon including the HD DVR in the package price, or is that an add-on?

Has anyone experienced missing audio tracks when watching CBS HD shows?

I have and HD Tivo and a Mythtv Box recording via Comcast (Cable Card and QAM). The past 2 weeks NCIS, and last weeks CSI start with just 2.1 (According to my receiver) sound Music and Sound effects, no vocals. Shortly after the first commercial the vocal track kicks in. Very annoying to miss the main dialog of the show for the first 5 minutes or so. I have experienced this on both Mythtv and Tivo, so I'm pretty sure its a broadcast defect. If others are experiencing it, is there away to report it?

I experienced the same thing last week on CSI (center channel out) but haven't noticed it since (I don't watch NCIS).

At least its not just me.... I typically only watch CSI and NCIS, I can't remember if I've watched (def. not recorded) any other cbs show since.

Will see what happens with tonights broadcast, maybe I'll try to record it Off air as well to see if it is a comcast issue or KYW (if it happens again).

Do you happen to know if there are any QAM chans open, or any OTA? What HD chans does comcast offer there?

Thanks so much

I have an install date for FIOS late next week. Any FIOS TV users in Delaware care to chime in and share experiences on installation, service, picture quality, etc.?

You want a good read?

Not wide spread but some folks have had some issues...Jeep Matt (who also posts here) seems to be very vocal about his issues over on that board. Search them out and then keep them in mind...

Thanks for the link. Good things to know if I have any issues.

The installer is here this morning, and so far things are going well. I'll post some more feedback when things are done.

Lucky you...the latest batch of issues seem to have been resolved last night. People are reporting good quality today.

I still have to wait until late Nov / early Dec when I move to get any facet of Fios...

Hey guys - it's "vocal" Matt!

Yeah, they physically replaced hardware at the Philly VHO overnight to fix our latest problem.

Hopefully this helps stabilize things.

Install is done - took about 6 hours. It all went very well. PQ is outstanding on the HD channels (wahoo!! HDNet I missed you). The installer was great, and provided an HDMI to DVI adapter for my older TV (and offered other cables, including HDMI, which I already had).

Only one problem: One of the DVRs may have a problem: I keep hearing the fan or hard drive spinning really fast then stopping again. Sounds like a cooling fan...

well the good news is that if there is an issue with it, just call them up and they should be able to bring you a replacement.
If you can't wait, they have a store location in the shopping center on Rt 141 @ Rt 13 (Penn Plaza?) where you should be able to take it in and get a replacement

So you got the 'phone call' too! I've been away from this forum for quite awhile now as I've never had my comcast issues settled and I just kind of gave up. I too set up a date for next week with verizon which looks like I'll get more for less, even once the regular rates kick in. Just wish I could get a higher upload speed without having to opt for such a more expensive package. Will report results.

Peace,

Install is done - took about 6 hours. It all went very well. PQ is outstanding on the HD channels (wahoo!! HDNet I missed you). The installer was great, and provided an HDMI to DVI adapter for my older TV (and offered other cables, including HDMI, which I already had).

Only one problem: One of the DVRs may have a problem: I keep hearing the fan or hard drive spinning really fast then stopping again. Sounds like a cooling fan...

Sorry I didn't read down further to see you've already had your installation done. Can you tell me why it takes 6 hours. That seems to be about the norm, but when I talk to the folks at Verizon, they say that they still use our current wiring and all that needs to be done is replace the DVRs and the cable modem. I can't understand how that takes that kind of time. Any insights would be great. Thanks.

Peace,

they install the ONT and BBU and then run wires into the house
then they replace all connectors, replace splitters and check each wire to make sure that each outlet is receiving an acceptable signal
then they set-up the router and PC, set-up TVs and then make sure that you are getting all the content that you ordered

Some installs go quick, others take a little while. Very thorough install (from what I read)

Well - the technician (name was Kevin, very helpful) was working by himself. It took him nearly 3 hours to install the ONT box, battery backup, etc. and then switch the phone over to the FIOS service. After that, it took him maybe another hour to run coax from the ONT location to the central location in my basement ceiling. From there, I helped him to identify the correct coax cables which run to my TVs, and he installed the splitter. Another 30-60 minutes to hook up the Internet router and set up the PC. Lastly, he brought in the DVRs and we hooked those up. Finally, he needed to clean up, caulk around the line coming into the house, and he made sure I was satisfied with the way everything was working. There was a brief lunch break in there somewhere, too. With 2 people, they could definitely cut down the time by doing things in parallel.

I do have to say that the cable runs were done very neatly and properly secured. He did a pretty decent job. He didn't have a great deal of knowledge about HDMI, and my projector in my basement seemed to concern him ("you sure cable works with that?"). He did, though, take some time to demonstrate some features and briefly orient me to the FIOS service. Every Verizon representative I have dealt with during this process has been really helpful!

I'm very happy with the picture quality. SD channels look clearer, HD is outstanding. I can't wait for football season!

Well, finally, alright. It's (fios tv) here for availability. Now the problem is that I can get;
a) fios tv + net
b) fios net + phone
c) no fios tv + net + phone

Upon chatting with a verizon rep, the response was to order the fios tv w/net service first, then call customer service to change over then (existing) landline to voip.
Huh??
I guess that they would, umm, just make up how much they would charge me afterwards, hmm?

Now I really need to ditch Mediacom (seeing that the rates just went up again last month with no warning for a $12 premium) but going from a standard verizon landline with nothing included that costs as much, if not more, then my cell with everything included, just what are they going to tack on to make this even more expensive then what I have now?!

Hmm... Gotta think about this one.

You should be able to get the TV + Net + Verizon Freedom for $99 / month.
If you can't call back and ask for another rep. If that doesn't work, ask for a supervisor and an explanation.
And just an FYI, Fios phone service is still considered POTS, not VoIP.

I saw the light this morning for the message on the converter but this is all good news....except the NFL HD...I'm wondering if you will still have to buy the sports package to get NFL HD?
