Will answer a few simple questions that were just asked. KPSP does not have an OTA digital signal. They barely have an analog sginal on 38. KPSP, KMIR, KDFX, KESQ, KESQ weather, and KCET Desert Cities are in clear QAM.

Since KPSP provides TWC with CBS HD, I've asked Dish to get it enabled for local delivery since there is no OTA of it here. They are asking the local outlet (KPSP) for permission to do so. I've asked KPSP to agree with it.

Separately KPSP is still awaiting Mexico approval for HD transmission. I've asked the FCC to expedite that given there are 400,000 people here with no option for CBS HD other than TWC, with copies to CBS network.

If I'm refused (Dish) I'll go to our local fed politicians pointing out that TWC has been given a monopoly by KPSP and action is required.

Just got a phone call from TWC, about moving Spanish stations from the 600 numbers to the 300's. I wonder if this is an indication of opening up the 600's, for more HD? Anyone heard anything?

This link lists all the channel realignments. It was confusing to have all the Spanish stations mixed in with the 600's HD channels.

For those with "Dish", Satellite Guys says Dish will have Palm Springs HD locals sometime in March. I guess Direct has them now?

More than 140 Padres games will be available on Channel 27

Palm Desert, CA

Spring is in the air and that means that baseball season is right around the corner. Time Warner Cable has great news for our customers. Starting February 13, Channel 4 San Diego -- which carries more than 140 San Diego Padres baseball games each season -- will now be available in the Coachella Valley on channel 27.

This programming addition comes just in time for Coachella Valley customers to watch the Padres celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2009.

All Time Warner Cable customers with at least the Advantage cable service level will be able to watch all available Padres games on channel 27, only on Time Warner Cable.

Time Warner Cable is proud to be the television home for the San Diego Padres in the Desert, said Tad Yo, VP/GM for Time Warner Cable's Desert Cities system.

We're excited to give Padres fans living in the Coachella Valley greater access to their favorite team's games, said Yo. Fans can look forward to viewing more than 140 games in 2009.

About Time Warner Cable

More than 1,400 local employees serve customers in the San Diego division with cable television, high-speed online and home telephone services over a fiber-rich broadband network. The Coachella Valley, Banning and Yucca Valley are served by the Desert Cities System of the San Diego Division.

Time Warner Cable is the second-largest cable operator in the U.S., with technologically advanced, well-clustered systems located mainly in five geographic areas New York state (including New York City), the Carolinas, Ohio, southern California (including Los Angeles) and Texas. As of September 30, 2008, Time Warner Cable served approximately 14.7 million customers who subscribed to one or more of its video, high-speed data and voice services, representing approximately 34.2 million revenue generating units. More information is available www.twcdesertcities.com.

Yes, I was overjoyed when I got the Time Warner e-mail announcing this. However, the important question is if and when we'll get the HD version of that channel (since virtually all of the games will be in HD). Watching the games in SD is better than being blacked out, as we have been. But having to watch in SD rather than HD is close to unbearable.

Apparently not:

From the article's sidebar:

Television viewers in the Coachella Valley have another four months to worry about the digital TV age.

The valley's ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC affiliates will wait until the new federal deadline in June to make the switch from analog to digital.

I noticed on the web site 100000 watts.com that KPSP has filed an application for digital TV it will be on the same power (9KW) and the same channel 38. The FCC plot map shows a very expanded coverage area as opposed to the analog signal. Hopefully Hi Def will be part of the package

Anyone know why after a few years of waiting there is still no FIOS TV here in Del Webb Sun City Shadow Hills.
I have FIOS internet and my phone goes over fiber optic as well but no TV.
Thanks Eugene

Unfortunately in the Desert the local channels there seem to be very greedy about how their customers will recieve their broadcast. Particularly CBS. Ever since they arrived and proclaimed that they had state of the art HDTV broadcast facilities they have had an agreement with Time Warner Cable to only allow their paying customers access to their HDTV feed. I feel that this is not a legal procedure, but who has the time or $ to fight such an issue? I have relocated my business to Murrieta, CA. In this area we have a choice of either putting up an antenna to receive about 20 digital stations free over the air; receiving the FiOS tv service with the LA locals; recieving Time Warner Cable with the HD locals; or my choice...recieving DirecTV service with the LA locals in HD. I lived in the Desert for 10 years and during that time I realized that nothing happens overnight out there. Good luck in waiting for your HD locals (actually NBC, FOX and ABC are available over the air now with an antenna and a tuner...it is CBS that is the broken link in the chain) or FiOS tv service to overcome the local bureaucrats!

Thanks for the reply. Why not just leave CBS out ?.

TW a year ago had a good deal for homeowners in our subdivision but you had to sign up for 5 years. A lot did just that and Verizon has lost them. I am still holding out and hope that FIOSTV will one day make it. BTW Sun City Palm Desert has FIOS TV I was told, they are only 1 MI away from us.

I know it does not seem fair or right, but in the Coachella Valley you must subscribe to Time Warner Cable to receive all of you local networks in Digital/HD. I don't think CBS ever plans on broadcasting an OTA signal (I beleive they have found some loop hole that excludes then from the digital transition).

Time Warner cable has also added a lot of HD material to ther channel line-up.

I have customers that use TW for their locals and also use Satellite for the rest. Direct and Dish offer 1080p PPV if your are in need.

I have seen Verizon Fios in action, and I am not very impressed with it. If you are holding out for Fios just for local channels you are going to misss out.

That's life in the Desert...Plenty of Golf and TV watching is a PITA!

The FCC web site only lists three channels as digital now. As v91 mentioned, for some reason KPSP (CBS 2) has never broadcast OTA their HD digital signal.

KPSP has filed to flash-cut their analog on 38 to digital, but the FCC has not approved it.

I have picked-up FOX OTA in HD in the Coachella Valley as well. I realize that it is not listed on any of the official digital Tv availability sites, but it is there. It is on channel 33.1 or 33.2 the last time I saw it.

This may have been asked and answered in a previous thread, any information about PBS HD on Time Warner? It appears to be available in the Beaumont-Banning area, but despite repeated requests it has not been available in the desert. Any thoughts, ideas or information?

Beaumont/Banning are within reach of LA Locals. There is no Palm Springs local PBS. Good Luck getting that one! There are alot of politics involved with watching TV in the Coachella Valley.

There is no FOX HD available OTA. There is a 480i sub channel transmitted by KESQ that is KDFX but there is HD transmission.

I recently moved to Rancho Mirage and this is the worse OTA market that I have ever lived in by a long shot!

I am no longer able to receive KMIR and KPSP on clear QAM in Rancho Mirage. Anyone know why? I was under the assumption that these signals would always remain clear QAM.

I can always get KMIR OTA but obviously KPSP still has no digital OTA signal. Hopefully the FCC will get around to granitng approval soon for KPSP to flash cut over.

Does anyone know how to get the Tribune to change the channel designator for the CW?? It is being broadcast on 2-3, but it shows and feeds to Directv and Dish that it is on 42-3. I emailed KESQ and they told me that they have repeatedly tried to get it changed and the Tribune has yet to do so.

Thanks
