KVFW SQ going between 51-53 and 0. Just below the minimum needed to get a lock if there's anything to lock on to.

When I used to be able to receive KVFW 6 to 9 months ago it would be between 60 and 68 and stable. That correlates pretty much to Bob's graphs too, when his average SQ was above 60.

Maybe, maybe not - can you post a TVFool.com report (or a link to one) for your address?

So it looks like KNAV is planning to stay on RF 22 after all; they're just trimming back how much of the metroplex they'll cover.
CP modification approved by the FCC, so maybe they'll be back on the air "in living digital" before too long.

Edit: Incidentally, I just learned that they've been back on the air for a couple of weeks now, but they're still broadcasting in analog.

Here's a coverage map from Trip's rabbitears.info: https://www.rabbitears.info/contour....&lprw=N&head=Y. And here's a coverage map of KUVN-CA (currently on RF 47 but moving to RF 22): https://www.rabbitears.info/contour....&lprw=N&head=Y. To me it looks like the "blue" boundary of each one overlaps the "purple" boundary of the other some, so KNAV will probably need to make further changes (to avoid interfering with KUVN-CA) at some point. But it works for the moment.

I got tired of my relative in far NW Garland, 34 miles from Cedar Hill, not being able to get CH. 8 or CH. 13 reliably with an indoor amplified RCA antenna. So I opened up an RCA ANT 751, and plugged it into the amplifier, and propped it up on the floor behind the entertainment center, and the relative now gets CH. 8 & 13, as well as 4,5,11, and other channels.

I had wanted to mount the ANT751 in the attic, above the entertainment center, but there were weird boarded up areas, that I'm no mood to cut through. Until I can pay for someone to do the work to mount it and run cable, this will do. If it was my house, yes, I would mount that ANT751 inside, from the vaulted ceiling.

The FCC has approved a minor modification to KHPK's construction permit to move to VHF channel 10. Instead of operating at 1.5kW ERP, they'll be allowed to operate at a full 3kW ERP, which should make their signal somewhat easier to receive after they move.

KBS is the Korean Broadcasting System. We have a Korean channel (MBC America) on 55.2, so this will be the second Korean channel in the DFW area.

Anyway, CBS America will be the third Korean station in DFW when it goes live.
The slides are gone and KBS America is now on the air, but it's on both 44.2 and 44.3. No sign of "CBS America" yet.

Also, the "LifeHacks DRTV" infomercials are frozen up on 44.6.

Noticed that a couple of weeks ago, but stuck it in an edit instead of writing a second post

Looks like CBS America is on 44.3 now. Actually, their on-screen logo reads JCBS DTV. The "JC" strengthens my belief that it's Christian (despite my total inability to understand a single word of Korean).

Also, 44.2 is showing "KBS World (not KBS America) on-screen. (The 7-character PSIP label is "KBS DFW.") I still think the KBS logo looks like Starfleet though.

LifeHacks DRTV still mostly frozen. Every once in a while it starts playing, then freezes again. Probably a bad satellite or Internet link.

Are you actually tuned in to it? I tried adding the channel, nothing past 27.4.

I got it. RF channel 36. It does seem like KDFI is really cramming them in edgewise, though.

My DTVPal won't add it when I scan to add channels. With my Sony TV, all I had to do was tune to the channel and it's there, not even a re-scan.

So how are those Channel Master DVRs that were on sale? Are they better at doing things like adding new channels?

I haven't had a chance to rescan RF 36 on my DVR+ yet (had to work today), so I don't know if it'll handle 27.5, but they're still on sale until the 24th (unless they run out!)

I did get 27.5 into a DTVPal by doing a "setup wizard". The add new channel wouldn't add it. So I lost my KVFW 38.x channel memories because it's either off the air or not receivable. Neither my Sony TV or my Zenith/Insignia converter box even needed a re-scan; 27.5 was just there.

I'm home now and getting ready to rescan RF 36 with my DVR+.... Looks like it found it. The DVR+ gets a little sluggish in responding to the remote after adding a new channel, but that annoyance goes away after a few minutes.

Looks like Rovi hasn't added 27.5 to their listings yet. That could be because Light TV's home page lists their D/FW affiliate channel as 36.5 so I only have PSIP data for it until Rovi gets that fixed. Looks like KDFI broadcasts about 48 hours of guide data: it runs out Monday night.

One nice feature of the DVR+ vs. the DTVPal is that you can do a full channel scan without losing your recording events, as long as the channels with events are found again during the rescan. This comes in handy when a station rejiggers its channels in such a way that a manual scan adds bogus channels in the 100+ range, because other than a full scan, you can't delete channels with the latest DVR+ firmware; you can only hide them.

Incidentally, KHPK/28 is up to nine subchannels now, even though most of them aren't working. .1 is still SBN and .2 is Guide Us TV, so those are both religious. .3 is a black screen, .4 and .5 are two different infomercial channels, .6 is another black screen, .7 is a red screen, and .8 and .9 are green screens

Got it scanned in this morning. Looks good so far. I don't really notice any loss of quality on the other subchannels on KDFI.

My guess is that they took bandwidth away from 27.1, which is 720p but airs a lot of older shows that were recorded in SD. So you may not notice unless they air a bandwidth-hogging HD show, such as a sporting event.

The TV pulled up 27.5 as soon as I entered the channel.

But, for my View TV converter, I had to manually have it re-scan channel 36, and then it added 27.5

The TV 27.5 image had no issues, but 27.5 through the View TV had white horizontal dashes along the top of the image. I adjusted with the TV image position option, but could not completely rid the screen of the dashes. But, as I said, the TV internal receiver displayed the 27.5 image with no issues.

The FCC has released their "Ready to Pay" notice for winning bidders. There was only one in D/FW: KATA/50 will be going off the air no later than Oct. 25 of this year. R.I.P.

I wouldn't call KATA a "casualty" of the spectrum auction, because they got paid to relinquish their license. More of a suicide.

I do remember with some fondness the days, not that long ago, when KATA aired MTV Tr3s. But IIRC they dropped MTV Tr3s before the spectrum auction would have been a consideration.

Edit: The end may be nearer than I realized: just tuned to channel 50 and it's just color bars. Hot TV is gone. Also looks like it's gone from 31.2-31.4. 31.2 has color bars; 31.3 and 31.4 are completely gone from the channel map. (31.1 still has SBN, but you can watch that on 52 in HD.) And KNAV/22 is off the air again, presumably due to a lack of programming. Looks like "History of Television" may be history itself.

Edit 2: Looks like I hit the panic button too soon: Hot TV is back on channels 22 (stll analog BTW), 50 and 31.2-31.4 today (7/21). But what I said below still sounds right:

Suddenly it looks like Mako may be consolidating everything onto KHPK, which will move to VHF (RF channel 10) at some point. Last night I noticed that 28.9 is titled "Beach," same as 26.5 - and I just now saw that 28.6 through 28.8 are labeled with channel 26's call letters, KODF. (KODF is stlll on the air, but 26.5 - Beach - is a black screen.) 28.1 has SBN, same as 31.1, so it looks like Mako is planning to shut both 31 and 50, and channel-share 26 and 28 on one transmitter. Don't know what they plan for 34 though.

Exclamation WTF happened?

Just as I was writing that last post, some sort of disaster seems to have happened. Almost all low-power and a few full-power TV stations simultaneously went off the air. Happened right around 9:35 PM. At first I thought my home TV system was having a meltdown, but checking Bob's graphs shows the same thing at his place.

Anybody know what's going on?

Edit: They are starting to come back on, one by one. The only ones that still seem to be off are 2 and 58. 52 was knocked out but is back.

Must have been some sort of power outage in Cedar Hill. Super weird. Good thing it didn't last too long.
