I was just made aware of this forum and thought I would chime in. I manage both stations and would encourage you to visit our website yourbigsky.com, click on the News drop down, then DTV Answers, then the Forum. It went dormant for a couple of months, i thought corporate had taken it down but i was misinformed and now I am trying to make entries daily.
I tried to put a link here for your convenience but the system worked and i couldn't.
The short of it is- ABC should be up this week in full power but the signal will be upconverted analog. As one of the post stated, ABC currently has no plans to give Mountain stations an HD feed so we are going back to tape delay from East Coast feeds. The last piece we were waiting on, the HD recorder, arrived yesterday but my engineers haven't given me a definitive time it will take to get it into the system and running. They are also busy constructing the HD microwave system between the transmitter and the station (ABC). The factory tech is doing a proofing of the ABC transmitter as we speak and plans to start on the Fox transmitter as soon as the ABC is complete. Another tech arrives tomorrow to complete the FOX proofing. The good news is that the Fox plant is complete and ready to broadcast in full power HD (it has been broadcasting low power for some time now) as soon as the factory tech says everything checks out. They are both million watt, water cooled transmitters and need to be proofed before running that much power through them. The good news for those of you who remember the "icing" problems in the past, my Chief Engineer says he doesn't think that will ever be a problem in the future because it will cook off so much heat on the antenna.
Channel 25 and 27- they remain analog but we are looking at ways to use our resources to upgrade them to HD. The company is trying to help us make the Fox low power HD transmitter (Channel 22-1) work for the Channel 27 analog signal (FOX) but i don't know when that would happen as it will require FCC approval. Nexstar is not laying off lots of people nor are we in financial trouble has someone quoted one of my engineers. I only have two and I would be surprised if they had said that. We have made adjustments to deal with the current economic situation but i don't know of any of the 51 stations that has had layoffs (unless you call attrition a layoff).
Probably more than you wanted to know, but...
