Check all connections from outside to inside. Check all splitters. Unplug the box and wait a min. and plug back in.
Lastly call for service if needed.

Agreed. It sounds like a rather complicated issue, as digital is all-or-nothing, so there's something else going on there, maybe on Comcast's end, maybe something with the boxes.

At this point, I'm convinced they should just switch to FIOS or something else but figured I would (and should) check here first. If needed, I could post some screen caps.
What box do they have & what is it set to (480i, 480p, 720p or 1080i)?

SA boxes and they're all set correctly to receive the proper resolutions. When I go home this weekend, I'll cap a baseball game or something in HD and show you guys. I knew I came to the right place.

Both TV's are using HDMI.
The cap from the hauppauge would be component. that's the only way to cap anything.

I would double check, my in-laws had both coax & HDMI connected, but the watched the tv on 3 because that was what they were used to. They were using it for their vcr to record programs. It would change back everytime I left, so I just ended up disconnecting the coax & suggested they got a dvr so it would stop from happening.

Nope. I hooked it up personally. I wouldn't allow them to even buy the TV without my input and physically being there to hook everything up.

OK. home at my parents place. i recorded a bunch of things, including a movie, a golf game, 2 different baseball games and the diagnostics pages.

So what exactly could be the problem? Everything looks like it's lacking any sort of vibrancy. All the colors are completely dull.

You'd need to post some comparison so we'd know what a similar shot (like another one from the Bronx) looks like.

It definitely doesn't look like HD detail. Like the box is processing it in HD because of all the faces you can see, but that a wrong cable is used. It also looks like the sharpness is too high or you have some interference going on. I'm really just guessing though.

again, there is no "wrong cable" being used. These were taken with the component output and it looks exactly the same with the HDMI to the TV.

Unfortunately, there's no way to get a comparison shot. They were live baseball/golf games.

The colors are just ridiculously dull. Not vibrant in the least.

Is there something I should be looking for on the diagnostics page?

Does anyone know what I'm looking at when it comes to the diagnostics page? Perhaps there's something wrong there? Or should I have them request different boxes? They have 8300HD's now. Do they have any other options?

Branford is going to gain about 180mhz of spectrum any day now when the analogs are pulled, in addition to over 100mhz that's still open from the 860 re-build. Any guesses as to what HD's are next?

I'm hoping MSNBC and Comedy, but who knows? Any guesses? For the timeframe, based on other systems, it looks like it will happen around September 18th, as the cutoff for analog was August 18th.

Yeah, I got that too, like a day after I posted this message! They pushed back the analog cut-off date too, which is just annoying, and they are only pulling 13 analog's. There are also two mysteries:

1. Why didn't they pull 26-70? Those are all expanded basic, it makes no sense to pull some but not others. Just do it Comcast! Heck, they should pull everything analog, and they should have kept to the original schedule.

2. Why only 21 new HD/3D channels when they pulled 13 analogs? That should be at least 30 or more HD's when they are triple channeled. Also, They are still sitting on a bunch of spectrum from the 860 rebuild, and even if some of that went to VOD and DOCSIS, there is still a lot sitting up there unused. C'mon Comcast, get on it!

That's a pretty good addition, numbers wise. Hopefully the same will come to Branford in the next few months.

I think I've said it before, but is it really necessary to have 4 digit channels? They don't have 1,000 channels, so it is a waste.

I didn't see any changes for Shelton other than the slight changes listed in that link.
