Recd notice for the Vernon system stating as of Oct 15 all basic local channels (cbs, nbc, etc) will be all digital and customers must have a DTA, STB or cablecard to receive them. locals will be still sent in clear QAM though no mention of whether that includes locals in HD.

no new channels mentioned however Vernon seems the most advance Comcast system in CT in terms of HD channels and HSI. I just got upgraded Blast! HSI to 25/4.

So, it looks like the only way to get On-Demand with the My TV Choice Get Started Package is to also get the My TV Choice Movie Package. True?

HAHAHAHA !!!

I guess you don't live in Ledyard..... Even my internet drops sometimes, I just get excuses when I call them. They insist it's my modem but, when I rent a modem from them, I have the same problem and pay $7 month for a Cable modem I can buy for about $30 on line (JRSB5101U, look it up).

If I had a choice for internet, I would dump comcast totally, as their 7-8 HD channels besides locals is a joke.

Still it says xfinity on my bill and with digital cable I paid the same amount as people in other cities getting 100+ HD channels.

Screw comcast, the rip off queens

Frank,
John Bairos couldn't give me a specific date at the end of August, but simply said it will be happening very soon. Of course they will have to take time to send out mass mailings and give people a chance to get their DTA's, so it will probably be a while before we see the extra HD channels. A few days ago Comcast stopped passing the TV Guide On Screen data that my Sony DVR's use for guide data. I believe this is in preparation for the migration.

Branford got pushed back, it was originally mid September, I wish they would just make a plan and stick with it. Oh well, more HD's.

All three of my TVGOS DVRs have stopped receiving guide data over the last few days. Anyone know if Comcast has stopped retransmitting CPTV's VBI feed (in analog)? Previously, this was coming over Channel 97.

Well just saw that Comcast is starting to send out the first letter concerning the digital migration for the New Haven/West Haven/Hamden system. But the process won't be complete until March, 2012. No new HD channels until next spring...........sucks !

Yeah, they're slow, and they pushed it back for our market by a month or so twice I think. I wish they would just do the 30 day notice and stick to the plan. Oh well if a few kitchen or laundry room TV's don't have their DTA's yet, they can survive without 100 channels of garbage for a few days.

They probably figured that it is cool with how many deadlines CL&P missed.

Does any system currently have Game2HD?

I am in Clinton and will probably upgrade on Commiecast to get higher internet speed (no U-Verse or Fios in my area). This means the triple play package to get decent pricing (on special now). What has been your experience with the phone part of that service (digital voice)? Someone in my office had it a year or so ago (in North Haven) and said it was l-o-u-s-y, dropping it.

I haven't had a problem in the Hartford or Plainville system.

I heard back from Comcast. The new channels to be added to the Branford system on Nov 9th were delayed due to the aftermath of the storms and power outages. They are now scheduled to be added on Nov 22nd.

There is definitely something cooking in Branford. Looks like they are about to go pure digital as I was at the Comcast office on 139 last week and folks were coming out with their little converter boxes. Theoretically this will dramatically increase the available bandwidth and you will start seeing true HD instead of dumbed down overcompressed HD. I am in Clinton and apparently more work is needed there so 2012 (yuck) for us. If anyone has seen a PQ improvement after their full digi conversion, would be interested to hear.

If you're willing to give up the reliability of a copper landline, why not go cell only or get Ooma, which is almost free?

Ha, I was just about to ask what happened to MSNBC and ID. Guess that's my answer! Comcast is utterly incompetent, their service was out much longer than CL&P after Irene, and CL&P was solid through Snowtober, but Comcast was out for several days. Guess it doesn't matter if you restore cable service when you have no competition!

This whole 1000-series numbering is really going to screw me up!!! It does look like they really are grouped by type though, which is great. They left a lot of space in the lineup for more channels, which means they think they will have the bandwidth to do so eventually, which is good.

They're not going to back off compression, unfortunately, as they can cram more channels and more VOD on the system if they keep the compression levels high. They aren't going full digital right off the bat, I think they're dropping batches of analog channels, which is pretty stupid, they should just go for broke. For every analog removed, figure on 3 HD's showing up!

As of this morning, all the promised HD channels are live. We now have about 110 full time HD channels, by my count.

Also new is Smithsonian Channel, in SD only, on ch 127. I don't remember seeing that one announced as coming. Hopefully it will be added in HD some time soon.

110 would be engineering count, and would require all the movie packages. Actual channels are usually substantially fewer, depending on package level. Still, as you drive up engineering count, every package usually gets a few channels.

Correct. I have Digital Preferred and the movie channel packages except for TMC. I actually have 104 HD channels checked in my TiVo channel lists, leaving unchecked three On Demand channels which don't (yet) work on the TiVos, a couple of Spanish language channels, and TMCHD which I don't subscribe to.

Their atrocious number of HD channels makes it pointless when compared to AT&T.

Yes, theoretically a stronger alternative, but NG for my area as they have no service offering here yet. We are even stuck with 2.5 Internet download speed! No FIOS either. The sweet life in the boonies!

Trust Me, I understand your pain (kinda). I live in NYC. My only choice is Time Warner Cable. At least you could get DISH or DirecTV if you wanted either of them, no?

Why "theoretically?"

Dish/DTV do not offer Ch 13 WNET which we love and of course no high spped Internet. Theoretically in the the sense that some up here say FIOS and Uverse are better than Commiecast, but some not. In all fairness Comcast is improving its HD offerings up here, though not at warp speed.
