I second that, tase2.

I've also noticed that we are now receiving the Nets games in HD on 201 YESHD. When I complained a couple of months ago about not getting these games, like we had in the past, I was given all kinds of excuses and bogus explanations, especially the one about not being entitled to those games in this area. I'm more convinced than ever that, before ch 207 was terminated, we should have been getting those games here, but they were too lazy or disinterested to bother to throw the proper switches. Oh well. We're starved for bandwidth here, and there doesn't seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel. Everyone I've been able to talk to claims to have no knowledge whatsoever of any upcoming upgrades for our system.

Thanks

I was aware of that, but I guess it will be on UHD showing the USA feed only UHD will have the gorgeous HD and USA will not.

But as well all know the Masters doesn't actually begin until the back 9 on Sunday

tase2, ch 233 is the WFSB HD feed. You'll be able to see it, even though we don't get UHD here.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear or maybe I am misunderstanding.

I know 233 will be airing The Masters in HD on Sat & Sun, and I will be watching and HDTivoing (Easter Dinner) this weekend.

I was just whining that some folks with Comcast in other areas will be able to watch in HD on Thurs & Fri as well.

In addition to Sat & Sun, you will be able to see the HD coverage today and tomorrow on ch 233, despite the on screen guide indicating otherwise.

Five HD channels will be added to the Branford area on May 9th. They are:

204 TNT HD
207 National Geo HD
208 Universal HD
209 MHD
210 Versus/Golf HD

There will be a lot of channel shifting with non-HD channels going on around this time as well.

So the Branford system DOES have bandwidth?? Nice to see these channels coming. Too bad the NHL playoffs will be almost over once we get VS/GLF. Has Comcast decided to move analog channels to digital in order to free up bandwidth for HD as opposed to upgrading the infrastructure?

Yes. They are moving numerous analog channels over to digital on 5/8.

Lets hope the Clinton system follows suite. I'd love to have TNT-HD and National Geographic in HD.

PaulieORF, you have made my day! Just this morning I posted about not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel. Wow. I'm literally shocked.

Thanks for passing on the news.

I'm hoping Groton will follow suit as well (as I'm sure Beaker will be!).

A quick scan of the Groton channel lineup shows most of the assignments the same as those listed for Branford in that attachment - either the old ones or a few of those "changes" already in place.

Groton already has CSPAN3 in slot 105, for example.

An interesting thing I noticed is that Groton has CMT broadcasting in BOTH slots 71 AND 146 - maybe that is a sign that the changes are coming here as well although I found none of the other analogs listed to have digital "duplicates". We'll see I guess.

I too would LOVE to see those extra HD channels - I recently started watching some of the National Geographic HD stuff via On Demand and would like to see more of it in HD... not to mention I'm a big BSG fan and am dying to see the HD broadcasts on UHD like my friends over in the Cox markets can...

Ok I miss one day of checking this thread and something big is "possibly" happening to our little backwater Comcast area? What a week!

BTW I am unable to download (save or open) the PDF... I'll try again from another location this evening.... I gather all this commotion is about moving more analog channels over to Digital teir and subsequently allowing more HD??

NOTE: I haven't thought of more HD since we got ESPN2HD and the NHRA races have been running.... UHD would be great for the Masters Thurs/Friday coverage though (and other content afterward).

******** Do we dear to dream of them upgrading the bandwidth someday? ********

We'll take the channel shuffle till then.

As noted above, WFSB is carrying the opening two rounds on their digital channel, ch 233 on Comcast. It looked gorgeous yesterday.

Is anyone in CT getting MLB Extra Innings games? Is there a free preview of the package going on?

I don't think the Branford system has the bandwidth for it. I remember when there was a preview of NHL Center Ice a few months back and the tech I spoke to said that the system did not have enough bandwidth to provide NHL Center Ice. I presume the same is true with Extra Innings.

Hey all,

I'm looking at getting an S3 TiVo to use with my Comcast service. However, I've heard about the Switched Digital Video (SDV) format possibly being used in the near future, and am worried that it would make this rather large purchase a brick overnight. Does anyone know the latest news regarding whether the TiVo S3 will handle SDV, whether there will be an S4 that can, and whether Comcast is really going to switch to SDV soon? Also, something I'm confused on, is SDV just a new version of OnDemand, or does it affect all normal channels as well? I don't care about OnDemand/PPV, but I'm worried that this tech. will somehow render my normal and HD channels to not be able to be watched.

EDIT: I was told you just get a blank screen with an S3 TiVo and an SDV channel. So, does anyone know a timeline for SDV coming to us, or if it is even coming at all? I love the idea of a TiVo, but the rather high cost is a huge risk with this kind of doubt.

Nice find!

My brother is on the Branford system and received a letter from Comcast this weekend about these changes.

Maybe the threat of AT&T is having an affect already?

Anybody getting HBO for free at the moment? I was going to switch one of my premiums back to HBO for Entourage and noticed last night that it was recorded on the DVR already and I was able to watch HBO. Except I didn't call Comcast yet. Are they reading my mind???

I saw HBO passing free last weekend. Figured it was just a free weekend of it. Took a look at the guide for the HBO-HD channel and noticed they really aren't showing anything interesting.... More validation for my policy not to get premimum channels.

Forgot to mention before that there's an HBO HD OnDemand area. It doesn't have much of anything right now, but at least there's hope they'll at least put their series in HD in there and a few movies.

By the way, I had a message on both my DVRs yesterday (4/10) when I got home from work stating that there'd be an HBO Free Preview the weekend of 4/6 - 4/10. Thanks for the notice Comcast!!!
