I dont think they are small, as they are AT&T. (Or that what I remember when a few months ago they had their ads on TV here and a newscast said the group was funded and ran by AT&T.

Of course AT&T wants to make changes to the cable tv laws making it easier for phone companies to get in, since they are the phone company.

...AND OF COURSE THATS A GOOD THING FOR US, let the evils of comunications battle it out........bring on the competition~!I'll support anything that will bring a level playing field to the telecomunications industry... Its about time our city and town councils stop deciding what only cable/hdtv company I am allowed to order my video/internet/telephone services from..... Hail to walls of cable franchising are coming DOWN~!!!! WOOT WOOT~!

Just noticed for the first time today that Cox is now serving up ads when you pause a show for a long time on their DVRs. Today I got an ad for a pay-per-view movie on the pause screen.

It was sticky too. When I tried to restart the show I was watching the ad persisted for a couple of seconds longer than it usually takes for the show to start up again -- the better to make sure the ad gets seen.

I'm not really thrilled with this new development. How long will it be before they make us watch a 30 second commercial before we can watch the show we paused?

Well, NFLHD and INHD2 are gone today. I expected INHD2 but not NFLHD; not that it matters too much now. But hey, we got YESHD! Oh boy. A net loss of 1 HD station.

Will 2007 bring us ABCHD? Let's go LIN and COX. This is ridiculous.

NFL HD may be like YES HD in that it is a part time station, for now. YES HD will only be on the air during Nets home games until around April 1st, when it will be a full time channel.

I'm upset the NFL Network in HD is gone!!! There were quite a few good games yesterday that I was looking forward to watching the replays of. The idiots could've at least waited until AFTER the Super Bowl to get rid of it. I wish someone with a brain worked at Cox Communications.

Cox's filing with the CT dpuc states "for the purpose of allowing them to view the eight (8) live, regular season NFL games in 2006 that are being carried exclusively on NFL HD; the first such game is on November 23, 2006 and the last game wil be Saturday, December 30, 2006."

I don't think Cox communicated this to their customers ... another great job by Cox The December bill did say 8 regular season games but did not make it clear they would cancel the channel after the last game.

At least come spring we have the choice between the Yankees or Sox - now if we can get the Mets .....

Are you sure that all of the replays that the NFL network shows is in hd?

Here is a link to the official letter from Cox to the DPUC.
http://www.dpuc.state.ct.us/DPUCUndocketed.nsf/6e9beec82815c42f85256a61005a47fc/85256a63004def968525722c006e6658/$FILE/letter.PDF
As you can see, NFL HD was NEVER intended to be full time.
You will have to cut and paste the link, it doesn't post correctly for some reason. Sorry.

I feel cheated we lost INHD2, even thou it wasn't Cox's fault, any channel we lose that's 24/7 HD is a big loss even if it's full of repeats.
I could care less about YES.
On another note i noticed doing a QAM scan we do get HFLnet free on QAM 102.
Still no free espn or disc HD.

What's HFLnet? Also, are you saying that you didn't have YES already or you just got YES-HD? I wish I could get that here in New Britain on Comcast (NESN-HD is with a converter only).

NFL HD is the high def version of the NFL network (obviously). Cox just added YES HD, but since it isn't a full time channel yet, it is on sporadically.

I meant NFLNET!!!!!!
No we NEVER had YES at all in the Enfield Cox market, Manchester has it we dont.
Probably we wont get it in HD either if we dont have it in SD, we must be considered "north of the border" and in total Red Sox territory.

So I'm not very knowledgeable about all of this. I could use some input.

I presently have the Cox Manchester service with HD using an HD DVR. I've had it for about two years.

I'm wondering if some of you are familiar with the whole Cox versus DirectTV possibilities for this area and could enlighten me. The reality pros/cons would be helpful.

I'm thinking about a switch, but I'm unsure....

Thank you.

I was hoping for Fox Sports New England in HD when I move from New Britain to Manchester at the end of February (Comcast still doesn't have it, even though they half advertised they did awhile ago. I was hoping to watch the Celtics in HD, (yes I still watch, die hard fan here even though they are struggling).

Think there's any shot at it? Looks like it takes awhile for them to get different HD stations, we'll see.

I was using my QAM tuner last night in the basement with my PJ and found 104-2 is NFLnet HD, they were replaying a game from earlier in the season, here's a shot i took of the HD logo.
And it was in HD with 16:9 size and all the greatness!!

At least you get a choice between Yankees and Red Socks in Cheshier and Manchester. In the Stafford franchise Cox has not added YES to their digital or HD lineup. When I wrote to their customer service Q&A their reply was they had no plan to add YES at this time and that they would review this decision based on customer input and other factors.

Anyone interested in getting YES in the Stafford franchise should write or call Cox requesting the service. The more customers that complain the more likely they are to respond.

Rats! I have checked 104-2 several times and haven't found it. I think it varies in different towns what they scramble and what they don't.

Has anybody noticed any ghosting on their HD channels? Recently I have been watching HD on my IN 72 projector and have noticed ghosting on several channels. I first noticed it while watching Dante's Peak on Universal HD. I then saw the exact same thing while watching ER and 24. It looks like a shadow is left on the screen as objects or people move during dark scenes. I haven't noticed it on all channels. I also have not seen it while watching sports or DVDs. I was wondering if it had to do with Cox compressing their signal even more recently in order to make room for more HD offerings.

I don't believe that this phenomenon is caused by the projector. My limited knowledge of how DLP works makes me think that it is not possible to actually project shadows or ghosting like I'm seeing. Plus, I do not see it while watching DVDs. But then again I could be wrong. I was just curious if anybody else has seen this happening.

I sometimes get a little on my CRT rear projector. Adjusting the convergence cleans it up. I am not really sure about the DLP technology, but it could do with the refresh rate. DLP works by tilting mirrors, so if they aren't moving quick enough it would show as "ghosting", much like an LCD that doesn't refresh fast enough.

Cox is shutting off their analog premium channels on April 24th. This should open up enough bandwidth for six or so hd channels. That doesn't mean that they will put them up right away, but maybe there will be something new soon.

What's an example of an analog premium channel?

HBO, Cinemax and Showtime have been available to customers who have had it since before there was a digital tier, but didn't want a digital box. They are on channels 64-66.

but it probably won't be 6 HD channels. Knowing Cox it will be 6 more shopping or leased access channels (ie all infomercials all the time). They get paid to carry those.
