I just checked. The front of my receiver says "DCT 6416 III".

Cox told me R.I. will get the new boxes first, digital simulcast means no analog channels , all digital which wont happen around here for awhile.
Anyone using a reg NTSC tuner willl be out of luck and they have until 2009 to implement all digital.

The new DCH looks promising but it's no big improvement, same lousy 160 gig storage.....get real!!

Maybe Fio's might be the way to go.

Interesting......DCT6416 phase III box.....newer then the 6412 but still no cable card. So that means that there are still reconditioned boxes around.

The newer DCH boxes are supposed to be the one's that will replace all of the above and they use a cable card required by the FCC.

So does this mean that there are that many reconditioned boxes around that they can hold off on the newer DCH style?

The requirement to go to digital in 2009 has nothing to do with the cable companies, only for television stations that broadcast an NTSC signal. An NTSC tuner is for ota analog channels. The analog channels the cable companies have is not ota. The switch to all digital for the cable companies is to save bandwidth so that they can add more channels. Also, by getting a digital stb in every subscriber's house, they can sell more ppv, where the real money is.

OK......is anybody else having problems with audio and sometimes video feeds while watching "BIG BROTHER 8" IN HD?

Yes.. believe it or not....some people do actually watch these crazy shows....
Call me weird if you want...BUT......

It is really freaking annoying...... Audio cut outs and video freezing......this is ridiculous.
This seems to be the only show with these particular problems.
I watch lots of other shows on CBS and none of them have any problems what-so-ever.

Am i the only one having these problems or is this for everybody?

What gives CBS?

Same problem here gulf, CBS has been screwy lately.
It's unfortunate that they dont really use HD camera's, maybe they do but cheapo CBS always 4:3 phony HD's shows like this and Survivor.

I'm having a weird problem with my 6416, and was wondering if anyone's heard of this.

When a program is currently recording, but I am also watching it live, there are frequent picture freezes, with audio dropouts. If I go back adn watch the program after it's done recording, or if I just hit rewind and play, the breakups and picture freezes are nonexistant. Anyone had this happen, or heard of this?

I find I can eliminate that by just rewinding a couple of minutes of the live broadcast.

I have heard much praise for the Aptiv Passport guide, and after using it for almost 3 weeks, I welcome the I-Guide's arrival. The Passport guide is just so slow. I've used the I-Guide on two platforms, Comacst and RCN, and it seems much faster. I don't think I'll be missing Passport when it finally goes.

Yesterday I was over a friends house up in Springfield, Mass. He has Comcast, with HD and DVR. I was amazed at how far advanced their software is over Cox's. There is no delay whatsoever, their guides are much easier and pleasant to look at. It's hard to explain without actually seeing what we have, then seeing how Comcast's is. It's night and day. Cox needs to learn a thing or two from Comcast. It's a shame there's a monopoly on what cable system you're forced to have based on where you live. A damn shame.

Do not fear. As I had eluded to in the post before yours, "I-Guide", the very guide that Comcast uses on their Motorola systems, is coming to Cox, replacing the Passport guide. No one seems to know for sure when it's going to happen, but it is a 100% certainty that it IS coming.

Wow, for some reason I didn't even see your post. It's a little freaky that of all the things for me to be bitching about, you refer to in the post right before mine.

Anyway, I'm so glad to hear they are going to be using I-Guide. You made my night Paulie. Let's all just hope this happens sooner than later.

I sent an email to the regular old Cox Customer Care center in reguards to the I-Guide, and if there was any kind of timeframe. All they said was that the I-Guide is in fact coming, but that they are unable to obtain any timeframe information right now.

I didn't really expect much, so now I'm just trying to dig up the emails or phone numbers of people in Marketing at Cox.

Thanks for that info, Budman. When I ask my friend who is in mid level management here in CT, I'll be sure to let him know how you feel. Nice post.

Looks like no HOF game in HD from Cox today. No big deal, just as long as they air the regular season games in HD, I'll be happy.

Does anyone know how to get into the diagnostic screen on the Motorola 6416, or any Motos on Cox? I have searched around, and not turned up anything. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Okay so I figured out how to do this on my DCT 2500 standard digital box. You turn the box off and then quickly hit Select. This method does not work on my DCT6416.

Raoul,

While Budman's post may not have been the most delicately phrased I have seen on here, the substance of it is true. When you call customer service or go to the cox offices the employees don't know anything. You can ask them about items that have been posted on this forum as coming to the area and they have no clue.

Several months after the series 3 Moto boxes came out I went looking for one to replace a bad box I had. Not one of the 3 CSRs knew they were available, yet the boxes were sitting in the back room not 4 feet from where they were standing. I got lucky, a tech was in the office at the time and told the CSR they were available and where to find them.

Other times I've asked about channel changes previously posted here, only to be greeted with blank stares and silence.

If you want to tell your middle management friend something, tell him the CSRs are their frontline contact with the public and should be among the first people to know about impending service changes/improvements. That way they can sell them to the customers.

There are choices out there for subscription TV service and there's more coming (ATT, FIOS). If your manager friend wants to keep his penetration base or even improve it, tell him informed customer service reps can do a lot to help.
