DirectTV just added the following HD channels:
1. Comcast SportsNet Chicago HD
2. Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic HD
3. New England Sports Network/NESN HD
4. SportsNet New York HD
5. YES HD
6. Cinemax East
7. Cinemax West
8. HBO West
9. Bravo
10. SciFi Channel
11. USA Network

I hope SciFi is on Cox's list to be added. It would be nice to see first-run BSG in HD.

Still no Versus HD. Until then, the only hockey I'm watching is the Bruins on NESN HD and whatever little hockey they show on NBC HD.

Hockey in HD is awesome, but in SD it's pretty bad because you can hardly see the puck, and you only see a small portion of the ice.

If it is, anyone know where it is? My Cox service is temporarily trashed (they're supposedly "on the way") but I'd like to find the QAM directly if needed for the games coming up.

Thanks.

QAM directly?, just use any QAM equipped tuner and do a channel scan.
Or you mean the QAM lineup?
I purchased a Moto 6200 of ebay cheap, it works but only get the basic first 100 and some unencrypted HD channels, Cox wont let me activate it as they dont support 3rd party boxes.

I doubt I could get a Moto 6200 from eBay by game time exactly 3 hours from now.

Cox has equipment laying all over my living room and people throwing their hands up in the air so this thing just isn't going to get fixed today. I was hoping I could get TBS HD directly through my HDTV's tuner, bypassing everything and plugging the cable directly into the TV set, but I've looked at all the scanned digital channels my TV can pick up (no guide data obviously) and nothing looks like TBS HD so it's apparently not in the clear. Lots of porn, didn't realize I lived in that kind of neighborhood!

Fortunately my DirecTV account is still alive so I'll drag out an HD satellite receiver and hook it up. Cable TV may not yet ready for prime time.

Is anyone else besides me annoyed that Giants/Jets won't be on Cox Sunday? They're listing the Patriots game in the guide. This means that I'll have to go to a bar to watch the Giants game.

Me too. That is because WFSB chose to show cheater Patriots, even though there are more Giants fans in CT.

What's so bad about having to go to a bar to watch football?
Sounds like a perfect excuse to me.......count me in....don't worry the wife will understand.

Good stuff here......http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto...ndustry/40671/

Let's hope that COX picks this up......a real usefull HD channel.....not something like Disney or Nickelodeon that CAEGUY wants so badly.......

Don't blame Cox, they have nothing to do with it. It's a local channel decision.

I know. I was just trying to say that it's not on in our area. I should have phrased it differently.

Are you serious? More Giants fans than Patriots fans? I am a Giants fan and understood why the Pats were on.

Sure there are. In CT definitely. Maybe in Enfield there are more Patriots fan, but not around Hartford or anywhere down south. Heck, there are actually Red Sox fans who are fans of Gaints. I undestand why WFSB did it. That is mainly because they also serve part of Massachussets.

You must be mistaken. My DirecTV-oriented friends are talking about a hundred channels being added if we drop our "DirecTV with Tivo" receivers and go to DirecTV's HiDef receiver.

That's a pretty anemic list given the hype.

"Added" being the operable word, I too, heard of up to 100 HD channels on DirectTV. Now if we could get close to that number on Cox (I understand their goal to be 50), I would be one happy camper.

I am an obsessed TV hobbiest, but I watch relatively little TV so I'm not an expert on happy camping. What does Cox not have that we want? I've seen most of the DirecTV stuff, and it's not HiDef as God intended, basically down-sampled pablum, looks pseudo-sharp but the detail is not really there, what has been referred to as HD-lite. Plus low bit-rate. Plus some of the original material is not HiDef to begin with; the result can be ugly beyond belief (e.g. TNTHD).

The Cox stuff looks pretty good to me. Of course nothing you let _any_ of these clowns get their hands on is as good as off-the-air HiDef. As far as I'm concerned we've come full circle: hook a coat hanger up to your antenna input and if your local stations are close enough you're state-of-the-art HiDef and all else is compromise.

Don't have to check what people say about them, since I've seen them myself. MPEG4 has great potential. It's different, but I think most people will like it, at reasonable compression levels once that happens on a sustainable basis.

Strange, at first you say you have seen the hd lite, now you have seen the mpeg4. Virtually everyone thinks the mpeg4 looks great, just as "God intended". You are right in that much of the source material isn't hd yet, just up converted sd. BTW, how can you be an obsessed tv hobbiest and watch relatively little tv?

SciFi would be good.

"Happy Camping" in this case would involve sitting in my reclining theatre seats in front of a 106" screen watching the best HD content available.

mpeg4 is Xvid, you sometimes cant tell the difference over a DVD, there's is now .h264 HD Xvid it is pretty damn good, there converting HD-DVD's and Blu-rays to the size of a DVD-DL 8gig and look pretty damn good.
Also there's .x264 format.

No problems here in Cheshire. We were watching recorded shows during the 8-9 time frame but recorded 702 and 704. I just watched 5th Grader recorded from 704 and it was perfect. Quick check of 702 recording shows not problem either.
