What good is giving us a channel that doesn't work?

The Celtics games at home are in HD. There are only a handful of road games scheduled to be on in HD. It appears Comcast will only broadcast when its signal will be in HD. Otherwise you have to watch on Comcast SD

All 4 channels are on the Cheshire system this morning. The guide shows same programming on H&G and Food Net but the actual channels are correct - just a guide SNAFU.

I'm not too worried about it. With all the HD's added since September 1, I continue to be pleasantly surprised with Cox's commitment to adding HD programming lately. I can live without Science and Animal Planet for now - we know they're working on upgrading the system.

I can't believe there's still no Versus/Golf HD yet. They show quite a few Rangers games on Versus that I would love to see in high def.

Agree about the sports hdjeff. NHLHD is lame. I was hoping there'd be a game on every night.

NHLHD is a waste of bandwith, as is worthless CSN which is off the air 90% of the time.
Just checked NO Food Hd or those other channels here in 'locks.

On the guide it says that tonight they're supposed to be showing Nashville vs. Detroit in HD, but we're just getting "NHL on the Fly" instead.

It says the same on Directv, but they are showing the Bruins game, but it's not in hd like it is on NESN!

I moved to Wethersfield in late August, and from D* to Cox as part of the move (I didn't want to deal with the added wiring I would've needed to get a dish going in the new house). I loved D*, and I didnt have very high hopes for Cox based on previous experiences I've had with Telemedia and Comcast.

I'd have to say that I am pleasantly surprised how the HD lineup has been improving in just the couple of months I've had service.... almost a 50% increase in HD channels. The only channel(s) that I miss from D* are HDNET and HDNET Movies. They both have decent original programming and a good selection of movies from month to month. Anybody out there know if there is any demand for this channel amongst the Cox subscribers? I'd love to have those channels back.

I emailed Cox this morning, still waiting to hear there response, which is like everything, they dont have a clue, might be worth to drive to Bernies in enfield to there new office and find out.

Well just got the email.........................

Thank you for your inquiry. Cox is committed to providing the best
customer service possible.

We have received your recent email regarding the new HD programming. We
apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. We have been
advised the four new HD channels became available on November 6th in
Manchester and Meriden. Once the upgrade that is currently being
performed in the rest of the Enfield area is complete all four channels
will be available. Please feel free to contact us with any further
questions and/or concerns you may have.

We hope that we have been able to provide you with the information you

I'm sure the areas around Enfield are still in the process of being rebuilt. There are still trucks all over the place. If you check the frequencies of those new channels on your box (in the areas that the channels are available) you'll see that they are up in the mid 800Mhz range, that's obviously above what the old 750Mhz stuff could handle. once the upgrading is done I'd bet those channels get put on soon afterwards.

My guess is that they can't upgrade the whole state in one go, just like AT&T can't do the whole state in one go. As new towns get upgraded they get turned on. It's either keep everyone turned off until the last person is upgraded or let loose with the new channels as the upgrade rolls out. I prefer this way, rather than keeping everyone waiting.

Does anyone know if this is just an 870 mhz upgrade? Or, are they going to 1 ghz to give us the bandwidth needed to add a significant number of HD channels?

As for the rollout, it appears they're going to do the whole franchise at once, rather than on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis. The cable work was completed in my neighborhood last week and no change in the channel line up yet.

Just checked with DPUC and Enfield will only get the HD feeds of HGTV and Food Channel. Animal Planet and Science HD are not on the notice to the DPUC.

http://www.dpuc.state.ct.us/DPUCUndocketed.nsf/88f12116235902e185256a860056babb/85256a63004def968525738b0070ac7e/$FILE/enf%20letter.PDF

Also notice that as of Dec. 31, courtTV is no more. On Jan 1, it becomes truTV as its corporate owners complete a rebranding reflecting the increase in reality tv programming that dominates the hours when court is not in session. The renamed channel will move from channel 71 to channel 96.

Channel 71 and 72 will become leased access channels, aka all infomercials all the time.

Meanwhile, I noticed that Manchester's upgrade apparently went a lot faster than planned. Their original date for turning on the new channels was Dec. 31, then they crossed that out and put Nov. 27, and that too was crossed out in favor of what turned out to be the actual start of Nov. 6.

I agree that there are a lot of useless HD channels out there

There should be a rule that a channel should at least offer SOME sort of programming 24/7 before the channel gets launched, that spinning logo gets old really fast.

Does anyone else have issues with the Comcast Spots Network channel? It freezes for several seconds at a time at my house. On both boxes.

(Edit: Only the HD version does this. Channel 51 (SD) has no issues)

(Edit # 2: Just went back and read a previous page. It's not just me. Question answered.)

I'm upset the Comcast channel does not show away games as the guide does, what a waste of HD, this is really stupid to have to watch lousy SD channel 51 instead when finally the Celt's are on a roll!

Well Comcast i'm sure shows all gmes, Nesn show's 99% Sox games but considering Cox is blowing them for the channel they decided we'll give you only the home games but we can show all games............Cox u SUCK!

It is not Cox's fault that Comcast NE only broadcasts home games in HD. The Phoniex Suns, Ii believe, are the only NBA team that broadcasts exclusively in HD. While I agree Cox donates alot of space to HD channels that barely broadcast programming in HD but if we did not have Comcast NE we would be complaining about not having it. Home games are still better than nothing. Just my opinion

Over the past couple days, the PQ of the HD channels look real good. Anyone else notice a difference? It's almost like they added more bandwidth. Could this be the reason?
