Let's hope ... much of NBC's HD Olympic coverage is on Universal HD ... including their Hockey coverage.

Thank you for your inquiry. Cox is committed to providing the best
customer service possible.

We have received your recent e-mail. Negotiations are also on the table
to broadcast the SuperBowl in February. No current information has been
provided regarding this matter. We were able to air this event for our
customers last year and we hope we are able to do the same this year. We
will keep our HD customers updated, once the negotiations for the
Superbowl have finalized.

We're kinda running out of time here. Something tells me it isn't gonna happen. I have absolutely no faith in COX. They have let me down too many times in the past.

I'm glad I bought the OTA box as insurance!

I have my doubts about COX, too. At least you have OTA. I recently got a cable card for my TV, but later found out that it knocked out my Ant B input! Why can't this all be standardized? Isn't consumer electronics just supposed to work? That's why I got a Tivo for the wife and kids and I use XP MCE.

I feel the same way also, few weeks ago i bought a LG 3510 tuner and a Terk antenna, i have 25+ guests coming sunday, just to be safe.
UniHD is just a bunch of 70's 80's shows, not really HD worthy as they were recorded with analog equipment, Olympic's would be nice
But any new HD channel is good news!!

Cox and ABC made the Hartford Courant this AM.

Careful: Cox Doesn't Offer HD On ABC

Hopefully, this will be settled and we will have ABC permanently or at least for the Super Bowl.

Sorry everybody, bad news about WTNH HD for the superbowl. It's not going to
happen. LIN will not allow Cox a one day exemption, so everyone is SOL. So you
know, this is not the fault of Cox, but rather LIN, the owner of WTNH.

Thanks raoul, i'm real glad i bought that LG receiver now!!
Maybe i should get out the big antenna i bought for camping 7 yrs ago.
There is going to be ALOT of pissed off Cox customers come Sunday......I would NOT want to be working customer service that day!!
Also all the local stores that are promoting HD tv's without tuners will be screwed too.

Thanks for the info Raoul. Although I disagree that this is not the fault of Cox. Cox does share some if not most of the responsibility for this fiasco. All other cable providers in CT have WTNH in HD so we know that LIN can be dealt with. It just seems that Cox refuses to do so. I may have mentioned before that I have been let down by Cox several times and kinda knew this would happen. They don't seem to be too concerned with keeping their customers happy since they have no real competition other than DirectTV. As I've said before, IMO, Cox Sux! But since I have so many tall trees around my house, I really have no other choice. Cable Companies need to be deregulated to provide true competition in the marketplace. But that's a whole different conversation.

I'm sure that, after Cox pisses off many of their customers as they did with NESN in the Meriden, Cheshire and Southington programming areas, they will make a deal with LIN and provide us with WTNH, and most likely raise our rates in the process. Of course this will also be after it's too late.

Needless to say that since I'm expecting between 25 and 30 people over for the Superbowl, I'm glad I purchased the OTA box.

This is an excerpt from the Courant piece on ABC high-def--> [ "LIN has submitted a proposal. It is not an agreement," says Cox spokeswoman Leigh Woisard. "Our corporate office in Atlanta is responding with a counterproposal. We are committed to negotiating with LIN to reach an agreement as soon as possible."] by kevin Hunt - Hartford Courant Newspaper......

It is obvious the reporter doesn't know much about the HD issue, I would have loved to ask the Cox spokeswoman if the [as soon as possible] means waiting another 3 years. Since negotiations between Cox and LIN started in April 2003, or earlier

Added UNIHD to the line-up.

Still no Superbowl or WB. We should all write our representatives to regulate cable. Not only is the cost out of control, but companies are making money off the frequencies they should've given up already, and holding us hostage for HD services.

Of all the entire Cox HD services in the USA, Hartford area recieves the least amount of channels and services, seems every Cox area is independent of one another, a big monopoly that someday has to come down!!
We should be able to chose providers like sattelite or telephone!

Ugh, it's a good thing the Pats aren't in the super bowl this year, otherwise I'd be so angry that I couldn't watch in HD! I'm still pretty angry about it but oh well. Universal HD is crap. I have no desire to watch old TV shows upconverted to HD. I'd gladly give up Universal HD, and the INHD (with the exception of the NESN HD programming), and the Discovery HD channel for ABC (since none of those have any semblence of a programming lineup). Oh well, another day I guess.

They certainly are "committed to negotiating". It's been going on for years. Keep up the good work COX.

Called cox this morning at 9 am just so they can confirm No ABC HD and gave me time to put a antenna up in my backyard on a pole, ran the coax thru the hatchway into the house to my living room, ABC Channel 40 works so i should be ok.
I might permanent mount it were a 30+ yr old antenna is, i just didnt want to climb a ladder today, Local channels dont do me any justice anyway.

Great! Enjoy the game in HD! My little indoor antenna works great to pull in WTNH.

I had tried an OTA Tuner box a few months ago and was only able to pull WTNH with the antenna in a position that was not practical. I'm in an apartment so it's indoor only for me.
I hope Cox gets inundated with phone calls complaining. Not having the biggest event of the year in HD is just inexcusable. Oh well atleast I can watch Knight Rider reruns in HD

I just looked at the lineup for Universal HD.... It is pure crap.

Why is this channel even in business?

I assume Cox's bandwidth is somewhat limited, and if that assumption is correct, what rocket scientist decided that Universal HD should rate a HD slot?!?!??!?

I guess UniHD is going to carry the olympic's, hence the reason we got it?
The antenna worked great, a $50 Terk couldnt pull in channel 40 so that going back to CC
OTA HD looks even better than Cable!!!!
Everyone at my party commented how clear it was!!
I couldnt get any 5:1 surround sound is that what they use on OTA?, Pcm stereo?
Maybe it could be setting on the receiver.
I'm def going to mount the antenna as looks like we'll never get ABC HD
I never watch any shows like Lost because of that, maybe now i will!

You probably need to go Coax or Optical out of your OTA Tuner to get DD5.1 I had no problem yesterday.

I was wondering if this has been everyone's experience. If so, that would push me to get an antenna as I have become enamored of watching HD.

The superbowl signal was exceptional, as reported also by members of this forum, but American Idol in HD blows away everything!!
OTA is nice but it's only has a handful of local channels and they only broadcast HD signal's at 8pm -11pm.
I'll take cable over OTA anyday!
