Any chance someone could provide an updated map of QAM frequencies for Cox digital HD channels?

I recently moved my HD box upstairs to hook up to my new LCD tv in my bedroom (that doesn't have a tuner), and I'm currently using the built-in tuner on my TH-42PX50U downstairs... I couldn't find a way to view the QAM freqs from the box -- but maybe there's a service mode or something that gives that info?

Anyhow -- I let my Panny run it's digital scan when we had free HBO a month or so back, and I was able to pick up all the unencrypted HD locals + HBO + all the unecrypted VOD, etc. I spent a lot of time mapping channel names into my set, and I'm afraid to run another digital scan (to pick up WB for instance) because I think it might trash all my hard work. Maybe post #1 could be updated with the QAM frequencies? (I'm most interested in WB at this point.)

The updated list would look something like this:

700 - NBC / WVIT 111.03
701 - CBS / WFSB 107.02
703 - PBS / WEDH 107.01
704 - FOX / WTIC 111.02
705 - WB
710 - DISC
711 - ESPN
712 - INHD
713 - INHD2
714 - TNTHD
715 - UNIHD
720 - HBO
721 - SHOW
725 - NESNHD

I have at least the HBO freq at home to update the list with.... but the freebies will probably be the only ones useful to most of us anyway, since the others are encrypted.

I'm not using a CableCard right now, because last time I called Cox, they told me that their CableCard didn't support HD yet, and I didn't feel like paying another $10/month for a HD box. That actually seemed ridiculous to me that there was no HD support, since I thought the only sets with CableCards are HD sets (but maybe I'm mistaken?). Anyhow -- can anyone confirm / deny this?

Thanks!

Call them back and get the cable card installed. HD is the whole reason for the cable card.

I went to the manchester office and tried to get another DVR box, they told me this bull line about it can only be installed by them, screw that and i left.
If you do a QAM Scan theres usually alot of lower channels, but they change daily or hourly, sometimes i'll get free Soprano's or some soft porn channel, usually around 82.1, anywere from 74.1 to 100.6 i pickup channels.

What you are getting is the EOD streams, so you are seeing what someone else in your area is watching. You will sometimes be watching it and it will pause, rewind, play or stop because that is what the person watching it wants it to do.

they tried to feed me that line before and i flat out told the woman (the one with the godawful finger nails) that I was told I could swap the box out by the guy on the phone and that I wasn't leaving without a working box. She caved.
Either way though, that Manchester office has horrible customer service. If/when I need to go swap out something else (already had to do cable modem and dvr!) I may just go to Meriden.

To add 'fuel' to the discussion about how Cox is missing out by NOT working things out with LIN over ABC HD boradcast rights, most of the first round World Cup soccer games next month and the Final game are all on ABC. Talk about a MISSED opportunity for Cox! Instead of marketing the world's largest sporting event in HD on COx, they have nothing! Well, unless you count many *angry* customers (like myself) who geared up for watching the event in HD and will suffer with OTA feeds.

PS - Since CT is the home of ESPN, why doesn't COX carry ESPN2HD? SO very sad...

Current box: DCT64122 (?) with DVI-D connection

According to teh Motorla website, an HDMI connection for their box is only on their all Digital boxes. So, unless Cox starts using another cable box provider, get used to DVI to HDMI conversion (with a Stereo cable) or Component video connections for HD.

The Motorola 6412 and 6416 Phase III boxes do have an HDMI connection. I received a 6412 PIII months ago from Cox Meriden so that is what they are using. The latest firmware update as fixed some problems with the HDMI interface. A good summary of the boxes can be found at moyekj's Motorola DCT6412 2 tuner HDTV PVR w/ Passport Echo Information

BTW, I agree, it is sad Cox and LIN can not come to an agreement about ABCHD and I sure wish we had ESPN2HD.

Thanks for the link...it is very informative. SO, I must have a Phase II box (b/c I have only a DVI-D output). Can someone please tell me if they have had any luck in getting Cox to swap out the boxes?

SoccerFanatic they did the swap from PII to PIII for me last August. That was during the time I was having the problem with missing recordings. The PIII box did not help that ... the firmware update earlier this year did Did not think they were still issuing PII's ... but since you got one 2 weeks ago, guess they are.

I'm really getting sick and tired of waiting for Cox and LIN to get their act together for the good of their consumers. Emails are not getting us very far. What else can be done? Suggestions?

What about ota? You can get a receiver reasonably cheap. Where are you located? Are there issues with receiving their signal ota? Check www.antennaweb.org

For all Connecticut people that are on Cox cable in my area....I bought an indoor antenna from Sears for 29.95 and am able to pick up ABC-HD on channel 40-1, which I guess is the feed from Channel 40 in Springfield, MA. I am in Enfield, CT.

yeah...I can pick it up OTA but I really would like to record on my DVR. It also makes it easier for the family.

I also call and email Cox CSR all the time asking for updates on HD programming( several times every month since April 2003)...but like almost everyone else here too, I seem more informed than their reps... They always say they're working on it!-BS!!

I think we should get a petition going of some sort...or maybe a picket line with posters and banners at the local Cox offices( maybe that would create some negative BUZZ towards Cox), what about complaints to local media - small newspapers?!or why not a class action suit?!!....I would be in for any fight against COX!!

For what its worth here's the response I got from them recently regarding ABC-HD. I give them credit for providing a thoughtful response, which leads me to believe they at least know a significant number of their HD customers are not happy about the situation. With that said, they are still engaged in a giant pissing contest and we could be waiting another two years.

First, we apologize again for the lengthy delay in providing you ABC in
HD. We realize the explanation that negotiations are ongoing is not
sufficient enough. However, it is the truth. The negotiation for this HD
Channel is taking an extraordinarily long time. Over the past 2 years,
we've been negotiating, on a local level, with all the local
broadcasters to obtain rights to distribute their HD signals. We were
successful with the local broadcasters for NBC, CBS and Fox. However,
WTNH ABC Ch. 8 in Connecticut remains the one local broadcast channel
with whom we have not been successful negotiating an HD deal. This
station is owned by LIN Broadcasting, who owns other broadcast stations
in the following Cox markets: Rhode Island, Virginia, Florida and Texas.
There has been no progress in any these markets either. In November
2005, Cox New England had solicited the help of our corporate office in
Atlanta to negotiate a deal on a national basis with LIN Broadcasting.
We are hoping this will expedite a deal for our local broadcast
channels.

In the meantime, we understand some of the sports programming is being
broadcast on ABC. Our wish is that we will be able to offer you every
marquee event in HD.

How much credit can be given to a Privately Owned company that doens't listen to their customers! The fact of being private just shows how thick headed and closed minded they really are!!Only a few of the top management has a saying on what goes on!! If they were publicly owned, maybe then, shareholders could put some pressure!!
...and in LIN's defense( not that I think very highly of them either), they have been able to workout diferences with other cable providers, including a national agreement with Verizon FIOS!!

...Gahans, you're out of your MIND!!The question has never been weather they know some customers aren't happy, I am sure that is obvious to them, the point is what are they doing to correct the problem!!! NOTHING!! Just because they have changed the way they word an email response, you begin to give them credit?! Don't forget negotiations started back in April 2003- In Jan 06, they even failed to respond to the last LIN proposal, absolutely no answer!

.... Oh No, we won't...In two years I am sure our choices for HDTV will be much greater, i.e.-Verizon, AT&T, and other providers that will be part of the HighDef circle!

!?!?WISH!?!?If wishes could come true, I wish Cox was out of business, changed management, or could become a Publicly Traded company!! Until then we must watch ABC through a very cheepo analog tuner( the Motorola box analog tuner sucks), on which my HighDef screen makes it look like TV viewing in the 1940's.Booooooooo!

So I'm here watching the Sox/Yankees game on NESNHD 725, and the choppy HD is back. What is going on with COX. Every time they seem to take a step forward, they take 4 giant steps backwards. Anyone else experiencing the choppy HD picture on NESN-HD?

Same here in Cheshire. I have had choppy HD both last night and tonight. Spent over 1/2 hr on the phone with Cox while they tried to "send a signal" to my box. The signal never went through and the picture is still choppy. Told me to call back later and try again.

I switched from 1080i to 720p, that seems to have temporarily cured the problem. I'm still new to HDTV though, isn't 1080i supposed to be better for sports, etc, and 720p being a step down?

By the way apaulct, I had the same problem last night as well, so rest assured it's not just you or your cable box, as Cox would like you to believe. I'm in South Windsor, a far cry from Cheshire, so seems to be effecting their entire CT system.

1080i vs 720p has been debated since the beginning of time ... err HDTV. 1080i has more lines of resolution but 720p should be reduce motion artifacts since it paints the entire screen each frame. They say 1080p is the best of both worlds but nobody is broadcasting it yet. Don't really know but I can't see a difference between HDMI and component either

I had the choppy video problem once before - during the NCAA basketball tourney. Cox "sent a signal" and that seemed to clear it up. Could be coincidence with them fixing the network feed or it could have been the reset they sent to the box. If the problem is still there tonight, I will call them again.

I had the same problem during the March Madness as well, if you go back a few pages I believe there were others who posted about it as well. Without a doubt, it's Cox's network, not any of us.

Can you guys tell what brand of hard drive you have in your boxes? I know that my last box had blue lettering on the HD and I had choppy picture, my current box has black lettering and I do not have the choppy video.

The harddrive in my box is Seagate - a white label with black lettering. We will see tonight if the choppy picture is still a problem on NESN-HD
