I did a search here on the AVS Forum and found several threads in the Programming and Technical areas.

For an overview of the two services, look at these two threads:

For lots of discussion about the two services, read these threads:

Can you please tell me any DirecTV or Dish Network installation can combine my own TV antenna to their dish for mounting on Chimney on side of my house?
I am willing to pay for the cost of installation my own antenna.

If you are getting a dvr from either satellite service, make sure that it is compatible for OTA reception. Some are not.

I am in Milpitas, CA. I am Comcast cable customer.
Please tell me how to sign up new DirecTV or Dish Network account?

I want to try this $24.99/mo for 12 month package. I need two set top box for 2 TV in 2 rooms.
What is the total initial installation and equipment cost?
What is the monthly cost for the first 12 month?
What is the length of contract? What is the cost for the rest of the contract?

No DVR. No premium channels. Only Over-the-air HD channels.
Should I buy receivers in Amazon?

thank you

I am in Milpitas, CA. I am currently Comcast cable customer.
Please tell me how to find best deals from either DirecTV or Dish Network?

I need two set top box for 2 TV in 2 rooms. No DVR. No HD. No Premium channels.

DirecTV is $24.99 + $6 (2nd TV) = $30.99 per month first year. 2nd Year is $54 + $6 = $60 per month.

Dish Network is $19.99 + $7 (2nd TV) = $26.99 per month first year. 2nd Year add $13 = $40 per month. But this is only Smart Pack do not have any good channel, particularly no CNN nor HGTV). Dish no longer offer Welcome Pack to new customers.
The equivalent package is $29.95 + $7 = $37 per month for first year. $50 for 2nd year.

Is there any way to find better deal?
Thank you.

Hi,
you choose a package that has the channels you want. nevertheless, using my zipcode, directv's cheapest package is quoted as $24.99/mo initally. but you'll need equipment. they'll give you the genie hd dvr, or an HD receiver for free, but they charge a receiver fee ($25.00 base but discounted in year 1 for the dvr or $16 for the receiver). for the second tv you can get a mini for no upfront cost. so the cheapest package with 2 HD recievers (or a genie DVR + a mini) will cost you $43/mo ($48/mo) + tax for the first year...

just got to the website and you can price it out really closely .
