I is my understanding that mobile DTV does not work well on VHF due to the element length being much longer than UHF and mobile device cannot receive it properly with a short element.

I concur, but there are certainly stations trying. WBIR among them. WTNZ also has Mobile DTV running.

I just found out that Luken Communications wants to move their W61DG transmitter away from Morristown. The new location is in Kodak, the channel is 43 and the broadcast power is only 440 watts ERP. There is no way this could possibly reach Morristown. Indeed, the service contour map shows it does not reach Morristown. The previous application approved by FCC for W61DG was at 15,000 watts on Ch 47. The station is licensed to Morristown and stations are obligated to provide good signal coverage for their city of license. This is not right. The FCC should not approve this.

Really, what difference does it make. 61 has been off the air for a long time. If moving the site to cover Knoxville is what is required for the station to survive and the network to grow, why would it be disapproved?

LPTV stations are not required to cover the city of license.

The current application for W61DG does not even have enough power to reach Knoxville either.

The service contour ends on the eastern edge of Knox County.

I signed up for the NFL Sunday Ticket this year since they dropped the price. The beginning of the Texans-Broncos game on WVLT was not shown because the earlier game went into OT. I looked to see if the game was being allowed through on DirecTV. It was and continued to be on until halftime, then they pulled the plug to force people to watch it on their local channel (common practice). What a beautiful picture the game had, then got to see how bad WVLT's PQ really is after having to watch the second half there. It was going from what HD is supposed to be about (seeing it in the first half) to what HD has sadly come on most programming (second half of the game).

What's up with all the freaky, loud audio on WVLT this week. The levels have been all over the place. It's not just the commercials. The levels have been erratic on their news productions too.

Anybody else see the Dish Network crawl on WBIR news this morning...."Dish Network viewers may lose WBIR on October 8 if"....Dish doesn't give in to our extortion demands... rolleyes.gif I'm sure glad I get the locals OTA. I'm sure anxious to not watch their new ME -TV! It ain't me babe....biggrin.gif

Is it happening on both Comcast and OTA? Personally, I haven't noticed it but I haven't been watch WVLT much this week.

Yes, I saw it, there was a thread over at DBSTalk before the crawl even started regarding all of Gannett's stations could be shutoff if they don't reach an agreement. Dish is saying they want a 300% increase per subscriber. There actually saying now if Dish doesn't disable that new Auto Hop feature on the Hopper DVR (which automatically skips commercials on the big 4 local channels) there going to pull them.

I seldom watch WVLT anyway but OTA. I use a Tivo box for Comcrust but seldom use their locals.

Me-TV went online on 10.2 sometime Monday morning. Nice lineup of shows, but the compression seems atrocious. Everything seems extremely blurry, especially when there's a lot of movement on screen.

Dish seems to be the worst when it comes to negotiations. Aren't they still without AMC or was that resolved and I didn't see it?

They dropped it June 30th and it has yet to return. IFC, We & Sundance (all SD Only) were also dropped and have yet to return.

Also, Dish and Gannett reached a long term agreement to keep WBIR and all other stations owned by them on air for the foreseeable future for Dish customers and Auto Hop is still active for the Hopper DVR. smile.gif

10.2 , Me-TV looked horrid when I sampled it yesterday. Every wipe or fade was drenched in pixelization. I'd never watch this mess, ever. What can they do to improve? .....decrease the quality of their 1080i station...?

No, but I have not viewed 'em much this past week. I had some similar experience with WVLT not all that long ago. I think they had an experiment going on with that new Even-Out-the- Audio-Level device that all the stations are soon required to install. On the heels of that WVLT also installed nouveau News & Weather graphics on their local stuff. It appears they did a facelift over the past month. Do ya think that WBIR might be in the same mode?

I don't know. I have a buddy that works at WBIR, I'll ask him.

The people at WVLT need to get their act together. They are constantly cutting off parts of shows with extra long local commercial breaks or long pauses with nothing on the screen. I've been noticing it more and more. They cut out at least a minute of Person of Interest last night.

I have not seen any sign of the W61DG (Ch 47) transmitter in Morristown. I was approved to at least temporarily distribute channels operated by RTV/Luken at the Morristown site. They were supposed to have these transmitters on air by Nov. 1. I notice that the Nashville Network did go on nationally at the first of November.

They solved a similar dispute with Dish just a couple of months ago. I expect this one to be settled soon as well. If not, oh well. The only time I watch WBIR is for the news, Sunday Night Football, and Revolution. That show is on hiatus until March. I keep trying to break myself from the habit of always watching WBIR for news. I really need to switch as I dislike their news programs more and more each day. I can always get their station OTA or QAM from Comcast.

Noticed that some time in the last few days, Dish Network has begun transmitting PBS (WKOP) in HD. ....................about time!

Correct, I added it to the "Latest HD additions" chart for our area in post #1912 and in my signature. It actually went live last month on November 7th.

Dish missed the live date by several weeks. I'm glad it's finally in HD.

I've been watching more of WATE's news of late. Trying to ween myself from WBIR after many years of watching them. I just don't like how they present the news. Anyway, I noticed WATE has a real problem with lip sync issues on most recorded stories. What's up with that? Seems like for as long as it's been going they would fix it.
