CSS To Shut Down Because SEC Network Will Take Critical Inventory

Good! Hopefully the content will be absorbed by a channel that people actually have! That being said, I hope people actually get the SEC Network, too..

Directv? Sports Leader? Not always. I get all my local RSNs here in NC with Directv, where Time Warner does not. Neither carry CSS, if that's local in NC (I have no idea!) I know many places, it's the opposite - cable is the only way to get all the RSN channels (LA, Texas, Oregon, Philadelphia, etc). Annoying!

As far as local here in our area CSS carried usually one or two University of Tennessee football games per season, 3-5 Men's Basketball games, and probably 8 or more Women Basketball games. They still appear to be carrying a few College Baseball games as well this season.

Both Comcast & Charter (and probably WOW and TDS) in our area lack carrying RSN alternates, Dish, DirecTV and U-Verse do a much better job for our local teams here. For example, if Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks are both playing Comcast only shows one of the two (because Comcast does not carry a SportSouth Alt here) however both are blacked out on NBA League Pass. Now the Comcast systems in Memphis and Nashville always show the Grizzlies games by default if both are playing.

If Comcast ends up picking up the network then yes it will be included, most likely in the same package CSS was if I was to guess which is Digital Starter. If Comcast doesn't pick it up we will not be able to subscribe to it a la carte or anything so you will have to get (or watch the games at a local sports bar/restaurant biggrin.gif) either AT&T U-verse or DISH to get the channel. However, its still months away so I expect an announcement probably late summer/early fall for more carriage agreements.

Comcast, as of yet, doesn't have a deal to carry it. Only Dish Network and U-Verse have carriage agreements. This will probably change by August, but, as of now....

DaverJ,

Have you attempted to watch any content On Demand yet? Reason I ask is a fellow member in the Nashville thread here said he has the app on his TiVo but is unable to watch anything. It might be just an initial rollout glitch though.

Yeah, I tried out a couple HD shows to see if it worked, and it looked great. Not a full show yet, though.

Sub-1080p/60fps is not next-gen.

Assuming the deal is approved, Comcast is about to gain a larger presence in Tennessee. Specifically all of the Knoxville surrounding areas that currently are serviced by Charter would become Comcast if this gets approved.

Service Areas in our region currently Charter that would become Comcast: Alcoa, Blount Co (currently overlap with Comcast in some areas), Farragut, Gatlinburg, Knox Co (currently overlap with Comcast in some areas), Lenoir, Loudon, Loudon Co, Louisville, Madisonville, Maryville, Monroe Co, Pigeon Forge, Sevier Co (currently overlap with Comcast in some areas), Sevierville (currently overlap with Comcast in some areas), Seymour, Sweetwater, Tellico and Tellico Village, TN

Why do our local stations still feel the need to interrupt programming to give updates on local elections? WATE interrupts 5 minutes of a new show to show a live interview of J.J. Jones. WVLT shrinks the screen to show election results on the bottom 1/3 of the screen. And they also have a live update during a popular show missing a key element of the show.

Today I lost WATE on WOW and the antenna only picks up about 60% of the signal vs ~100% for others in the same area. Anybody else seeing this?

Comcast and SEC Network Near Agreement

SEC Network coming to Comcast Cable, report says

Report: Comcast “Working Out Final Details” With SEC Network

"The SEC Network will launch on August 14th, exactly six weeks from today and according to Comcast, the nation's largest cable company, will be carrying the network. Comcast spokesperson John Demming told Outkick that the two sides are "working out final details." He also told Outkick, "We expect to come to an agreement in the near future."

All these stories the local TV stations did about only two carriers having it Knoxville was a bit much. The channel doesn't go live until Aug. 14 and the first live game isn't until two weeks after that. Plenty of time to wrap up any agreements. Once the Comcast deal is done, I expect DirecTV to have a deal soon thereafter.

WPXK: Power Increase & Location change

Judging by reception reports from my original home in KY, the signal there is very much weaker.

Guess they went to full power (1,000 kW ERP) instead of 18 kW. If so, they changed locations from Cross Mountain to Sharp Ridge (on tower shared with WATE).

Weaker signal into KY could be expected, if WPXK is now ~ 20 miles more distant (93 miles instead of 73) and shadowed behind a mountain.

I am seeing a very nice signal just outside of Kingsport, TN. Around 83% on my signal meter.
Now if only WVLT could boost their power.

Yep, just did a re-scan and got all 6 of their channels! Mostly shopping channels, but since I never got that signal before I'll agree it's much stronger than it used to be.

I am getting a very strong signal for WPXK. I have issues with WVLT as well. Something is very wrong at the WVLT tower location. I wonder when WKXT 43 Morristown will move to Knoxville and go up to full power ((15 kW).

WKXT-LD does have a CP for a move to Knoxville, and a power increase to 15kw. That could happen soon, or never. Also, WKXT-LD broadcasts on rf 43 with a display of channel 34, not to be confused with WTNZ which broadcasts on rf channel 34 with a display to 43.

Now it's official, Comcast to Distribute SEC Network to Xfinity TV Customers.

"ESPN and Comcast Cable have reached an agreement for carriage of the SEC Network, which will begin rolling out to fans and followers of the Southeastern Conference across Comcast markets at the start of the SEC college football season. Comcast subscribers will also have authenticated access to additional live events scheduled for the SEC Network’s and Comcast’s digital platforms – including the Xfinity TV Go app and website, WatchESPN and SECNetwork.com – with the ability to watch SEC Network live and on-demand content anytime, anywhere on their television, computer, tablet or mobile device."

"Comcast said SEC Network will be available beginning with its digital starter package in SEC states, including Texas, and on digital preferred and higher in areas outside the 11 states with SEC schools." http://blog.chron.com/sportsupdate/2...rk/#25038101=0

ESPN Press Release: http://espnmediazone.com/us/press-re...-tv-customers/

Comcast Press Release: http://corporate.comcast.com/news-in...omcast-xfinity

For our market that still leaves DirecTV, WOW!, Charter and TDS without a deal for SEC Network finalized yet.
