___________________________________________________

The government is now so big it tells us how much water our toilets can have. The government tells us how much water our showers can clean us with. The government tells us we pollute the air every time we exhale. The government tells us our kids are fat. The government tells us how much energy we are allowed to harvest. The government tells us which light bulbs to buy. The government has grown and grown since 1962 and your money has not satiated its hunger yet. Now government seeks to continue at the pig trough on America's children's and grandchildren's lives and livelihoods. And the unconstitutional ObamaCare keeps growing like a cancer debt and entangling itself into our lives.

Bringing this back on topic, for all of those who are upset about the government potentially taking away free over-the-air TV, you should remember these wise words:

"A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have."

You may think the Beast is feeding you, but in fact, you're actually feeding the Beast.

I've seen reports/rumors on www.dslreports.com that Verizon FIOS TV services may be coming to St. Louis in the next year or so. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Interesting news about FiOS, if true. Here's a link to the DSLreports.com discussion on this topic:

Looks like Bob Carpenter may be out of Washington Nationals broadcast job. He and Horton would be a good combo here.

Don't hold your breath. DirecTV's DVR's still don't have 2-2, 30-2, or 30-3 in the channel guide, let alone 46-2 (the older HR20 models have OTA tuners and do have 4-2, 5-2, 9-x, and 11-2 in the guide even though those channels aren't carried by DirecTV itself).

My tivo hd records from a tv antenna. I can record 46.2 on my tivo with maunal recording by date and time.

I thought all cable compays had to carry all local channels.

As of yet, the must-carry rules don't apply to the digital subchannels.

And I'd say that's a good thing. DirecTV and Dish would have nothing left but locals and subchannels!

Hell, I wouldn't miss them if DirecTV stopped carrying the local channels altogether. I never find anything worth watching on any of them.

Since the last year and a half have seen the cancellations of 24, Lost, Chicago Code, V, and Human Target, I'm inclined to agree there's nothing good on OTA at the moment.

But my girlfriend enjoys The Good Wife and Blue Bloods, and I'll admit I'm looking forward to Terra Nova this Fall.

I have several OTA shows that I still enjoy - Bones, House, Castle, Fringe (top of the list), Glee, Modern Family, Chuck (though I hate the creative turn it's taken the last couple of years). I like that I can record a local OTA show on my Dish 622 (in addition to two satellite local channels), and I can record two more with a PC HD tuner card. I use the PC tuner to record shows I want to archive, and use VideoRedo to edit out the commercials. I have a hard time figuring out which shows are going to get the Blu-ray treatment and which won't. Fortunately, Fringe has come out on BR. I'm wearing those discs out.

I've pretty much gotten bored with TV altogether. It seems pretty much a wasteland more than anything these days.

But it's gotten me back into listening more to music again. I've redone my listening room and purchased a whole new analog two-channel system to get me back into my old vinyl collection of some 2200+ LPs. Couldn't be happier.

Oh yeah, how could I forget Fringe? Oh, because I watch it a season behind on Blu-ray, that's how.

Supposedly, DirecTV offers an OTA tuner add-on for their newer DVR's...at least that is according to the latest tech that I talked to. I haven't checked into availability yet, but plan to as soon as I take care of more pressing purchases.

Yes, they offer an OTA tuner, the AM21. It still requires the D* guide be updated as previously discussed as it works exactly the same as the HR20 once installed.

I am getting very messy captions this evening (08-13-11) during the Rams game on Channel 2. Misspellings, letters doubled or missing, words run together, etc. Anyone willing to turn closed captioning on and see what you get to compare with me?

Thanks

I don't watch football, but it's likely that whoever they have typing in the live captions is fat fingering a bit. It's not like they can go back and delete something to fix it(like I did 10 0r 12 times typing this)

Thanks Doug. I can't stay away from a Firefly discussion. As the years go by, it looks less and less likely we'll get more live action Firefly. If that's the case, I think it would be interesting to have an animated version show up somewhere. Cartoon Network, in or out of Adult Swim, sounds like a good landing spot. Anyone that is interested in some new stories and hasn't already come across the comic books that have been released may be interested in this item:

Tivo has detailed listings for 2-2.

30-2 and 30-3 are listed, but just show "Music Videos" as the only programming info 24/7. I haven't looked at those channels much, but get the feeling that's about all the guide info they need.

The Tivo guide is not showing any of the 7-x channels or 58-1, but is showing channels 10-x, 13-x, 38-x and analog low power channels 51 and 58 that I don't pick up.

Meanwhile, the DirecTV guide on my HR20 boxes doesn't show 2-2, 30-x, or 46-2 at all.

All DirecTV receivers are leased. You shut off a receiver or close your account, DirecTV makes you send the receivers back to them (and no, you don't get back the $199 that you "paid" for the DVR at Best Buy).
