Looks like 7.1, 7.2. 7.3 & 7.4 have left the airwaves... no great loss; 2 shopping channels, some religious fool and color bars... I think I can live without them.

That station's signal is usually buried under KSDK's signal. Someone thought that putting a 2 kW signal on a channel adjacent to KSDK's 800+ kW signal next door would work, but it didn't. KPTN was issued a construction permit to move to UHF 19, maybe they're working on that.

http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php lists Grit TV as coming soon to KDNL.

For those not familiar with RabbitEars, just click on "St. Louis" and then any Station ID to see what subchannels they have.

I wasn't attempting to break the news that Grit was coming. I was simply adding to the conversation that RabbitEars, which is a very good source of TV channel info, has it listed as "coming soon". I guess I should have made my intent more clear.

Get TV (30.2) is now broadcasting in 480i 16:9.

On a side note, my Sony TV (living room) displays it correctly, but my Samsung TV (bedroom) squeezes the picture into 4:3. When I manually change it to 16:9 it displays correctly, but it also stretches all of my other 4:3 channels to 16:9. I have to toggle back and forth between 16:9 and 4:3 when I go from Get TV to any other subchannel on the Samsung TV.

Interesting. My Panasonic behaves the same way as your Samsung. On 30-2, I have to use "full" mode to display the picture correctly, but still have to use "4:3" for 2-2, 4-2, 4-3, 11-2, etc.

My Samsung TVs both ignore the 16:9 flag for SD feeds as well.

The cheap JVC TV in the bedroom won't do 16:9 for 30-2 unless I tell it to manually, just like the Panasonic.

And by the way, didn't KDNL announce it would have Grit TV on 30-3 something like a month ago? It's still not there.

Oh, and the Rams/Cardinals game looks a LOT sharper on NFL Network/DirecTV than it does on KMOV.

Recorded Killers of Kilimanjaro from 30-2 last night and edited out the commercials with VideoReDo. Pleasantly surprised at the 4.74mbps bitrate (though I still don't like that much bandwidth siphoned off from 30-1). That's nearly double the bitrate from 11-2 ThisTV. But I gotta hope they'll actually broadcast some 16:9 movies if they're gonna broadcast a 16:9 signal. Seems kind of pointless if they're just going to play the same old 4:3 pan and scan movies with black bars on the sides.

BUT while editing the commercials, VideoReDo saw the file as 16:9. And while playing back the edited file, VLC saw it as 16:9.

By the way, KDNL is on Facebook at "KDNL ABC St. Louis." There's no provision for posting a message to their page, other than replying to posts they've already made themselves. I did that recently to ask when we're going to see Grit TV on 30-3, which was announced several weeks ago. They had no idea.

I don't know if GetTv plays 16:9 movies. But they do show College Basketball games from Sinclair's American Sports Network.

Before they did their change to 16:9, they showed lots of widescreen movies in letterbox format. I'm kind of hoping those movies will make the transition from 4:3 letterbox to 16:9 widescreen.
