There is no community of license requirement for LPTV stations because the assumption was that an LPTV station may serve an individual neighborhood within a community. As such, it would make no sense to require the station to serve an entire community if it could reach its audience without doing so. As such, there is no requirement in the rules.

What you see here is the unintended result of that decision.

Makes sense Trip, but it sounds a bit like anarchy. What's to stop someone from getting a license in a remote location and then setting up shop in a densely populated area where even a low power signal might be able to reach many eyeballs? That's essentially what we're now seeing here. It's a digital from of pirate radio.

Nothing, except the rule only permitting a station to move 30 miles at a time. So, as some of these stations have done, they hop a little less than 30 miles at a time until they're where they want to be.

Both KMOV's sub channels are 16 x 9 and in SD. I don't know what they're doing over there but I think they have the cleanest looking sub channels in town.

Probably no coincidence that KMOV's main channel, 4-1, is mediocre at best, with bitrates at about DVD level. Try watching a CBS show on KMOV, then on either CBS All Access or on Amazon. The difference is NOT subtle. It's night and day how much better CBS programs look via streaming than they do on KMOV.

I was watching a little bit of Wonder Woman on Metv on Saturday and I noticed they were broadcasting it in 16:9. I didn't know a tv series from the 70s could be broadcast 16:9 I always thought it would be 4:3. They were also doing it for an episode of Columbo from 1990 on Sunday.

Makes sense. I guess they're sealing from Peter to pay Paul, as there is only so much bandwidth. Frankly, I don't watch the main OTA channel that much because I also receive it via E*, which is part of the Prime Time Anytime feature where all shows on the BIG 4 networks are recorded by default for easy time shifting. As you know, the sat channels have their own share of PQ compromises.

As of March 1 there are a few changes to our local channels.

30.2 is now TBD instead of GET.
30.3 is now CHARGE! instead of GRIT.
33.7 is now GRIT instead of Infomercials.
45.3 is now MOVIES! instead of Infomercials.

For many years I've lived with my antenna facing 30 degrees in wrong direction because of a wind storm. I didn't care because I still got all the channels I cared about.

Might have to finally fix that now that there's a movie channel on 45.

Any idea where Get TV went? I don't think it's in St. Louis at all right now.

And what the hell is that TBD channel that took its place? I don't think I'll ever watch it.

And it doesn't help that the Tivo and HDhomerun channel guides still show listings for Get TV and Grit TV on KDNL.

I watched a little of TBD from the look of it they seem to show youtube videos. I don't get the point of it. From their website Charge! looks interesting.

They added 45 to the tivo guide a few weeks ago. I can get the signal on the tivo's signal meter but I can't lock it in.

TBD is for millennials and their short attention span. I want grit TV back. I just started watching airwolf on it

I don't think I can get 33-7 in eureka. I wish it would move to 46
