Seems to me the article is not quoting fact, rather expressing an opinion. Seems like a cable exec whining actually.
When I watch the local market, I'm not seeing lots of PSA's on the big stations, that, speaks louder than the person who wrote the article.
In reality, you may have noticed many people are "cutting the cord" and going back to local.
I don't have direct or dish, nor do I care to. OTA is just fine, there are many more choices available now than ever.

TV stations are far easier to manage now than ever, every vendor makes multiple channel switchers, controllers, you name it.
While I'm not real happy about the parking lots not being full anymore, you can control a station in another market from yours at least 10X easier now than just 5 years ago.

Congratulations to WLAJ (and their operator WLNS). The CW in Lansing, 53.2 is now in HD, at least for over-the-air receivers.

I thought the new episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway? were looking awfully crisp.

For the OTA people, a new channel on 66.2. GetTV. It looks like it is old movies, very old.

Ok I need help,I'm not good at this stuff but I was wondering how to get the local digital/HD channels. I manage to get the WLNS,WKAR,FOX (kinda hard to get) and WLAJ. Somehow later on I got WSMH,GetTV,and ZUUS. but those are hard to get.I have a Sony Bravia Model KDL40BX450. I have the little comcast adapter thats hooked to the cable, but I have to loosen the TO TV wire thats connected to the cable/antenna just to get the HD channels. Help?

If your Comcast box has HDMI or audio/video outputs, connect those to appropriate input.

Disconnect Comcast box from RF input.

Attach antenna to the RF input.

Reconfigure for "air" or "antenna" input instead of "cable"

do a full channel scan.

Antenna suggestions: http://www.antennaweb.org

Reception

Over the last couple of days we have received five viewer complaints from our "fringe" areas that reception of WKAR-TV is breaking up or loss of signal. From viewers who normally get us.

I am not seeing anything wrong here with transmitter performance, in fact, just about every parameter is far above minimum.

Could you let us know how reception is doing at your location?

Thanks.

Downtown Lansing here, antenna only. Reception has been excellent, no problems.

New scan in order shortly.
WLAJ to move down the spectrum a bit.
Channel 25 will be their new home in a couple of weeks.

WLAJ move

6 days from now, WLAJ will move from channel 51 to channel 25 as part of the spectrum reassignment.
Some of you OTA may lose them, a rescan is in order.
Some of the new TV's just figure it out for themselves, and you won't have to do anything.
Cable and satellite are being notified, if you receive WLAJ through them, and it is gone the morning of the 22, call your provider.

Do you know if TIVO has been notified of the WLAJ channel change? I am on OTA only. I did a scan and got the new channel, but there is no guide data for the new channel. I don't think they they are aware of it. I have no idea of how to tell them about it.

I found a place on Tivo's web site to submit channel issues. So it is reported to them, hopefully this will take care of it.

With apologies for the off-topic post - home theater seating?

Apologies for the off-topic post. I'm looking for suggestions on a local place to audition home theater seating.

We're close to done with a modest basement man cave buildout but haven't settled on the seating.

Hoping for some overlap between Lansing-area HD enthusiasts and folks who know where I can find a few good reclining theater chairs.

East Lansing (Lansing, MI DMA) A/V enthusiast getting content from xfinity, Netflix, OTA and off the shelf-o'-discs. A 4228 in the attic is almost good enough.

Looks like there'll be a couple of new digital subs in Lansing late this week.
Might want to re-scan on Friday.

I live in Jackson and have been using a Clearstream 2 antenna for several years, with about 13 channels coming in crystal clear the entire time. The past few weeks channels 18.1 (WHTV) and 6.1 (WLNS) have both been very choppy. They will come in clear for 10 or 20 seconds, then get really choppy for a few seconds, then completely lose signal for 20 or more seconds. It does this pretty much non-stop, not just on occasion, which means I cannot even watch these two channels, which happen to be two of the better channels around. Anybody else having these same issues, or know how to possibly correct it?

Thank you!

Holy Toledo, it's been years since I've been on AVS, so cool to still see this thread active. I'll see if I can get the first post updated with current info in the next few weeks. I've been a cord cutter in Lansing and now in Portland for years because everything got so expensive. I'm still rocking my Winegard Metrostar and it pulls in everything i need.

Technically I'm Grand Rapids DMA now, but I'm still closer to Lansing.

Props to everyone for keeping this place alive!!!

It's time to give props to WLNS for the HD crawl generator!!!

Now we need WHTV to go HD and Lansing's CW to get a separate transmitter so it isn't a digital sub.

Could be multipath interference from something moving nearby and causing reflections of the signal. We have that trouble with channel 10 sometimes when big trucks go by. Have you tried moving your antenna a little?

I actually have it mounted at the peak of the roof. So I can't really move it around, and would think that it wouldn't be due the issues you were dealing with. Trying to watch the Lions game today on channel 6 and it's gone out probably over 100 times. I've seriously missed almost as much of the game as I've watched. Gonna have to climb up on the roof I guess and see if I notice anything, I don't know what else could be causing it when it worked fine for years until just a few months ago. This is more frustration that it's worth currently.
