Does anyone have the TIVO HD Unit? Just wondering hows your experience with it and are the listings better than the ones that Charter gives on the Motorola dvr epgs.

I got the mail as well and I have to say it is very disappointing to see their default list as you know that is probably companies they already have contracts with/in the works and it is just bandwidth that keeps them turning them all on. They have a spot for write it in but you know write in votes won't get as much as those that just choose from that list.

I want FX HD, USA HD, and TLC HD are probably the next most watched networks that I currently do not have in HD. Of those only TLC (which is for the wife) is on the list.

Going to suck hard if they add all those on the list in the coming year and then start worrying about the write in votes.

I hope EVERYONE does what I did. Write in CBS as a first choice.

I have been filling out the survey at just about every PC I touch, could prob keep filling up if I cleared the cookies...

Anyway around though I actually have more interest in the FX, USA and such than I do in CBS.. Granted if I had CBS I would start watching more shows on that network again but I basically stopped watching anything CBS when it dropped off Charter's lineup.

One important point (for me anyway), I can get CBS-HD OTA, I can't say the same for the other options.

I voted for TBS-HD as my first choice due to their baseball coverage. In addition to some regular season games, they also now have the rights to the Division Series and NLCS.

And everyone here that has kids and is subjected to hours of hanna montana, I hope Disney HD was picked as a choice. That has to be one of the worst looking SD pictures on an HD tv.

Just got Direct TV installed never turning back to charter im fed up with their rude customer service love blaming everything on you like my dvr kept restarting they wanted to blame it on my wiring and then they was really rude when i canceled and told me false facts about direct tv and kept trying to win me back even though i had already had direct installed and been signed to a 2 year contract....and i even stated that.Going to direct saved me 35 a month.

I was frustrated with the stations on the survey and decided to email Charter with my comments. Here are the email and response that I received.

Steve,

I was very impressed today when I received the HD survey card in the mail. I am happy to see the Charter is making an effort to see what channels their customers actually what to see in HD. The problem is that two of the channels I keep waiting for Charter to offer, FX and Sci-Fi Channel, were not even on the list. I know both are available and offer a lot of HD content. I was disappointed when The Weather Channel HD was added, because they offer almost no HD programming and I don't really care if I see the weather in HD. There are other channels on your survery list that fall into this category of channels that don't offer much HD programming or programming that doesn't matter if it is in HD, such as CNN HD or Wealth HD. I am sure they are popular channels, but do they benefit from HD?

Thank you for your time

I am responding on behalf of Steve Trippe. Thank you for your note.

We chose the networks on the survey based on the agreements we currently have with programmers. Our corporate office is working on contracts with the owners of FX and Sci-Fi Channel and I'm confident we will be able to add them in the future. We will use the results of this survey to add programming chosen by our customers. This will not be the last of the channels we'll add in 2008.

Thanks again for your note. We appreciate hearing from you.

Can't say I am surprised as I suspected that list was short for that very reason. It makes since if they already have the contracts in place with them that they would want to shove them down our throats... Problem is they have a lot of fluff/stupid channels on that list that probably pays Charter to carry them because they know they are pointless in HD like CNN, Weather, and History.

You mean you don't enjoy watching cold fronts, high pressure systems etc. in glorious HD? Imagine how empty your life was until you started getting Weather Channel in HD. Who needs Sci Fi or even CBS for that matter?

Read #7 in this article as it pertains to Charter and speculation (emphasizing "speculation") of a possible buyer if its properties are ever sold due to the current standing of the Economy:

I am more worried about #1. I am a Ford retiree and I have lost much in the market. Now my pension is at risk.

For those who have emailed Steve Trippe, steveGM@chartercom.com, how long does it typically take to get a response?

I had a particularly bad experience with a Charter sales rep who basically lied about the contents of a promotional package he offered due to my current promotional package expiring. The sales rep downgraded me from the "Biggest Value" TV package to the "Bigger Value" TV package despite my specifically confirming that my TV package would remain the same.

I usually hear back in a couple of days. He usually has someone on his staff answer your email.

Does anyone know if Charter will carry the "up to 10 games a week in HD" that InDemand offers as part of their MLB Extra Innings package?

Also, does anyone know how the channels on Charter match up with the Indemand Channels? I see my hometown Tigers listed as playing on "Channel 10" tomorrow, but no one at Charter could tell me what that was on their service. No programming info on the Moxi either.

Thanks!

Last couple of days HD-Net (770) and HD-Net Movies (771) have been extra super pixelated and stuttery. Other HD channels seem ok.

Anyone else seen this issue, or is it likely just my connection?

Emailing Steve does indeed lead to results (quickly!). I had a billing issue after I had two cable cards installed while also returning an HD set-top box. Charter continued to bill me for the box I had returned for 3 months....I argued with a CSR on the phone for almost an hour with no results, but one email fixed the issue in less than 2 days. Kudos to Charter for actually exceeding my expectations!

I emailed Steve Trippe and asked him when the Internet speed is suppose to increase to 16/2 in my area. Some areas in Missouri are starting to get it. I sent email in the AM and got answer in the PM. That is fast. Here is the response.

Steve Trippe shared your Email query with me. Our current expectation is to have this service available in your area sometime after June 30, 2008. This is provided there are no unforeseen hold ups in equipment being shipped to us, etc. Our engineering team is very excited to bring this service up and make it available to our customers.

Has anyone been having issues accessing all google.com domain sites lately?

Just yesterday it started happening with me, I couldn't hit google.com

However, I was able to hit it from a different ip address google has (starting with 74) so I thought it was a DNS issue with Charter so I called them and of course then were worthless

Then I ran for spyware checks and everything (even though I know I didn't have any problems with that because I'm not a moron with computer stuff in terms of keeping it clean) and it was clean.

I just don't understand what is going on.

If I flush the dns from the cmd console, it works again, but eventually starts timing out again

Any thoughts?

I was having this problem yesterday as well. I just changed my DNS servers on my router to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 rather than worrying about it though.

If you're gonna change the DNS servers on your router, just go all the way and change them to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. This uses opendns.com instead of Charter's DNS servers. Go to http://www.opendns.com for details. Trust me, you'll never use Charter's DNS servers again.

I tried this and it hasn't made a difference. Google doesn't work for a while, all of a sudden it works, then next time I try, no go.

Sounds like Paul Allen must be trying to influence Microsoft's purchase of Yahoo...hmmmmmm.

I was having the same issue with Google yesterday. It is not pretty when my 12 year old daughter can not check her gmail account!

I have talked to a few of my friends using Charter, and we have all been having trouble accessing any of the Google services, search, Gmail, Reader, anything Google related.
