I used the Channel Master CM-4228HD, received all channels including CBS. I had it mounted on a pole attached to a tripod on the ground, so it was maybe 4ft above ground. If I mounted it on the roof, I would think reception was even better, but I got all the channels I wanted just above ground-level.

I didn't use an amp at all, it went straight to HDHR receivers.

I lived in Geneva (no longer live in IL, moved to AZ )

Robert Feder is reporting that The CW in Chicago is moving from WGN to WPWR this fall.

Quote:
Robservations: CW Network losing WGN affiliation, moving to WPWR

In a rare change of network affiliations in Chicago, the CW Network will move this fall from Tribune Media WGN-Channel 9 to Fox-owned WPWR-Channel 50, sources said Sunday. The switch, expected to be announced Monday, will return “Chicago’s Very Own” to a strictly local programming lineup, starting in September. Tribune Media still owns CW affiliates in 12 other markets, including New York and Los Angeles.

Sources said the move to WPWR, low-rated sister station of WFLD-Channel 32, is expected to mean a shift of less than $4 million in local advertising revenue.

The same question occurred to me when I read Mvcg66b3r's post just before Dishrich's.

WPWR's signal on physical 51 already has what, three two 480i subchannels besides MNT in 720p?.  Even if the CW is cut from WGN's current 1080i to 720p, how well can one physical ATSC channel carry two HD streams plus three two in SD?  Something's gotta give.  WLS doesn't always do so well with two 720p plus one 480i on physical 44.

Last edited by dattier; 05-24-2016 at 08:09 AM. Reason: WPWR has only two SD streams now, not three any more.

KCOP in Los Angeles already runs My Network TV at 11PM rather than 8PM. No reason WPWR couldn't do the same.

Since CW programming is technically 3 hours a day during the week (2 a night + that Bill Cunnigham show in the afternoon) they could carry CW from 7-9 local and then My at 9-11, 10-midnight or whenever they want.

Yes, thank you both.  [Trip's saying "the same" doesn't adjust for Central Time but UncleHonkey remembered.]  Running CW from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and MNT starting at 9:00 or 10:00 would work, and there would be no need to cram a second HD stream into the channel.  We'll still be getting CW in 720p instead of 1080i, but that's minor.

(I erred earlier: WPWR has only two SD streams now.)

Looking at the schedule for WPWR I could see them doing My at 11 or even midnight. I'm sure those syndicated shows (big bang, simpsons, mother) that are after My programming still get the viewers.

It would be interesting how they will ID then. I'm sure they ID right now as "My50"...hmmm...MyCW50?

help choosing antenna

I just moved to the area and currently have an antennas direct DB2 antenna. While it pulls a lot of the Chicago stations, I do not receive VHF. Can someone help point me towards a decent inexpensive antenna that could do the job better? I am thinking I am going to have to go yagi style.

here is my report:http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e2cb0edd454db3
And I am only really concerned about the major networks (around 38 mi)

There's only one station out of Chicago using VHF which is CBS on 2.1 (real channel 12). I use an MCM Electronics ”Stellar Labs” VHF-Hi yagi with good results.

How far away do you pull stations from? I was actually looking at that antenna from MCM and Parts express. Is this the one you are talking about? http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/30-2440

Is it possible to rotate it to point toward Milwaukee?

WDJT, ch58, should be putting in a pretty good signal to Grayslake.
