Pricing looks right. Correct, both DVRs will talk to/see each other. One thing, DVR pricing is going up by $1 or $2 a month. Just the standard dvr not the home media dvr. Contracts don't guarantee equipment rates.

I believe it's gone now. Might be picked back up later this summer in time for the Olympics but I'm just hoping.

Avoiding loss of Copper/POTS

This is a modified for local reading version of a post I just put up in the general phone section of the Verizon Forums. But you guys have been helpful as I move toward FiOS, so I want to see what you think. I'm looking at FiOS to replace current kluge of COX-TV/Verizon phone and DSL here in VB. Digital phone is cheapest option in a triple play scenario. Looked at leaving standard service in a double play; price including non-digital phone service goes up by $50 and they insist they will still bring the service in on the fiber and disable the copper. I can see two options: shift phone/dsl service to Cavalier, or put phone/DSL service in wife's name.

Any other options? Is there some technical reason related to FiOS internet or FiOS TV that I have to have the phone service on fiber? I find that difficult to believe, since I am aware of one person with the FiOS/Cavalier set up and others relying on wireless, with no phone service whatsoever.

Reasons are to keep wife. She is unhappy with CH # changes, but I figure her Harmony remote (reprogrammed) will take care of that. But, she is also unhappy with 10 digit dialing, having to remember to insert 757 before all the phone numbers she keeps in her head.
TIA

starrin... Do you have a home generator?

When I first got FiOS, they didn't require digital voice. Now it is a requirement. I think, eventually, everyone will go to 10-digit dialing. When will it happen around here? 5 years? 10 years?? Who knows...

Correct, it is a recent change. DV only if you want to do a bundle. There really is no change on how it gets to your house. Regular phone would come through the fiber to the ONT and DV goes through the fiber to the ONT. Battery backup time would be the same.

Yes, 10 digit dialing takes a while to get used to. I use the phone so rarely that it took me 2 or 3 months to fully remember it. But the great thing about DV are all the call features that are self-managed via the web.

Yes, a portable one. But I'm an old fart and it gets more and more difficult to maneuver it around.

COX requires it now. The VZ sales folks told me it was coming to everyone in 757, but in checking with a reasonable good contact in the company he told me that he could find nothing about it now - not even being discussed

Not if it is set aside separately and the signal is currently coming in on the copper and the copper set up in one of the 2 options i discussed
Battery backup time would be the same.
Not my biggest concern right now. A good UPS in the system should give me plenty of phone time

web.

While I'm an old fart the wife is a nice little old elderly lady. She is not computer literate. She is resistant to change, primarily because she can no longer remember things like she used to. So, I can manage it via the web while I'm around, but if I depart first, she's going to have trouble.
You should see the trouble I'm having simply trying to upgrade the cordless phones, as the current ones fall apart.

I've had FIOS since it's been available in Va Beach. As far as I know, I have Digital Voice as everything is over Fibre. I don't have to dial 10 digits.

HDTV.....or not......Is the HDTV picture quality we have come to love threatened? Will we look back at what we "used" to have? ........I hope not........

You have Freedom Essentials which is "POTS over Fiber". This is different than Digital Voice, which is "VOIP over Fiber". Gets to your house the same way from the Central Office (CO) (via fiber), but arrives at the CO for your area in a different way.

Whenever you are ready to renew your bundle you will be required to switch to Digital Voice to enjoy the Triple Play Discounts..

And as I mentioned in my first message in this thread, the difference between double play w/Freedom Essentials and triple play w/ Digital telephone can be extensive - in my case approximately $50 less for the
triple play with digital. They really want you off POTS.

Bored with your 100 Mbps connection? Verizon plans to offer customers up to 300 Mbps down via its FiOS fiber service next month. That’s double Verizon’s current top speed of 150 Mbps down... (read more - GigaOM.com)

That's interesting. I've had FIOS since it became available in my area which I think was about 4 years ago? I've been on the same plan since with no changes to anything. Been paying the same too. No request to change anything from Verizon.

I guess we'll see what happens if I do decide to make a change. Quite frankly, VOIP has improved over the past couple years for the better so it really shouldn't matter either way.

I was informed that my bundling discount was about to expire earlier this year. The CSR couldn't continue the bundling discount so she ended up giving me a monthly credit for the next 12 months for being a good customer...

speaking of bundling pricing
i was going through old stuff and found this
i use to pay $82 for COX for just local phone and internet back in 2006
IMG00358-20090818-0939.jpg 176k .jpg file
now if i didn't have UNL international calling i would pay $86. now i have UNL local and long distance, that's a huge difference
With my Unlimited International plan it comes to about $121 but still a huge difference in 6 years
vz 1012.jpg 254k .jpg file
wish i could get fios cause it would be even cheaper

The new FiOS Internet portfolio will feature download/upload speed tiers of 50/25 and 150/65 megabits per second (Mbps), as well as two new tiers of 75/35 and 300/65 Mbps. The latter speed is double that of FiOS Internet's current top speed of 150/35 Mbps, the nation's fastest, mass scale residential Internet speed.
Do current customers stay at their current speeds or do they get bumped up? Im still getting 25/25 this morning...

FiOS Install Starts Today
Well, differences having been resolved within the family, my triple play install starts sometime in the next 4 hours - digital phone and all. We'll see how it goes.

New bump in speeds. It might be time to finally make the switch.

Thank you. It is getting sorted out.
I have a: 7232 2 for the FR HDTV
7100 3 for the MBR HDTV
2500 3 for the LIB SD (Free box for life)
2 700s for the small SD on my desk and in kitchen

I had previously set up a central board in the basement with a 6-way splitter there and home runs to all the sites. He just picked that up. The MI424WR router is adjacent to the TV on my computer desk, so we just put a splitter there, with a line to each.
This is my first go with VZ as we have had COX TV forever. Takes a bit of getting used to the GUIDE, etc., as well as channel # changes. I laminated cheat sheet converter guides with Sue's channels on one side and channels for the entire package I have on the other. One near each TV
Package is 5-15 (faster than my old DSL) plus the Extreme TV, Starz and Encore Movies.
I printed out all my old router settings, and expect to get into changing all the ones for this router to match. I had a helluva time setting up the PS3 in the FR to stream Netflix, and since it and I know those settings, I sort of intend to work backwards.
Any reasons that won't work?
I guess I'll learn the new 1.9.1 IMG through trial and error. Haven't found a really good gouge on what it does and how to do it.
Time to get back to work

so @Starrin , how do you like FIOS? I remember you put it off for years.
I remember talking to you when it first launched back in 07 in the mall!
