Just got my HiPix 200 up on my pPC and tried it out uisng a proxima x350 dlp.

Channel 35 was awesome-but what is it?

Channel's 39 ABC NYPD was less than impressive-what is the deal here?

Channel 34 (CBS) HDTV (Army Navy game) looked much better-but not as good as the stuff on the mystery 35.I would appreciate your comments to clear up my mystery.

Thanks

Joel

35 is WHD, the "National HDTV Demonstration Station." It is used by hardware manufacturers to test their receivers, and also to test broadcasting equipment. Recently it was used to compare the COFDM and ATSC broadcast methods. It is only on during the daytime generally.

Hi Joel,

A little more info to add to Jim's.

He is correct about 35. Been on at night this week though on expanded schedule. Great clips from 1080 productions from around the country. Have never heard Dolby 5.1 from them though.

Chan 39 is ABC-DC, WJLA - NO HDTV and horrible up-conversion - unwatchable. Lost cause... Try 52.2 in Baltimore (analog channel 2, WMAR) for the ABC HDTV shows AND Dolby 5.1 sound. Most of the DC area HDTV'ers have abandoned WJLA for WMAR.

CBS, WUSA-DT, on 34, has great 1080i, but no 5.1.

Now NBC, WRC-DT, on 48.48 has Leno and Crossing Jordan in HDTV and pix is very nice - again no 5.1.

PBS, WETA-DT, 27.1, has great pix - not duplicating the national feed though. No 5.1, that I have heard.

BTW, your STB should convert these channel numbers, except 39 (!) to the local channel numbers.

Hope this helps and welcome to HDTV.

Have a Great HDTV Day,

Fred
