theres a choice between WACH and WLTX (i highly doubt WACH would take the CW as a subchannel)

i would guess theres a strong possibility that the CW would end up on channel 19.2, there was a similar situation here in the Macon area where WMAZ (also owned by the same company that owns WLTX) took the CW on its subchannel 13.2 thus removing the cable only affiliate.

and also i seen that WZRB buyer was changed over to Ion Media Networks meaning theres a chance Ion Television would be coming to Columbia

So the CW affiliate will become a religious station? And sort of a lower power level and shorter tower, I guess perhaps because WJZY in Charlotte is same RF channel 47. And they are full power 2000ft tower. Looks like adjacent markets would not share same channel.

WJZY in Charlotte, NC is a FOX O&O now and the CW affiliation relocated to former-FOX station WCCB. Also WCBD in adjacent Charleston, SC carries CW programming (CW Plus) on Channel 2.2 since its on RF 50. Plus WCSC 5 in Charleston shares RF 47 just like Greenville's NBC station WYFF 4 shares RF 36 like Los Angeles NBC O&O KNBC 4.

Starting this weekend WKTC (Ch. 63) has started broadcasting ads touting "CW 63 Coming March 17th".

Recording I uploaded to Youtube

Folks in the Midlands, what do you think of the CW switch from WZRB 47 (now ION O&O) to WKTC 63 last Spring? Did you like it or disliked it? And why?

I've heard that WIS' sister station WCSC aka Live 5 in Charleston (both Raycom owned) has new graphics and the weather graphics similar to WIS 10. Since here in Greenwood, SC I can get weak signals of WIS 10 (NBC), WLTX 19 (CBS), WOLO 25 (ABC which gets more signal), WRLK 35 (SCETV/PBS), and sometimes WACH 57 (FOX) and WKTC 63 (CW/MNT) OTA besides moderate signals of my home market (Greenville/Spartanburg, SC) and adjacent Augusta, GA stations.

I miss the days of WIS when Ed Carter and Susan Aude (both retired) used to anchor the 7 O'clock Report. Before they removed the Charleston, SC periodicals at Google Newspapers, I was surprised that Ed Carter left WIS for then-NBC (now ABC) WCIV 4 in Charleston, SC in the late 1970s to anchor there along with WIS-alumni Terry Chick (now at a Eugene, OR CBS station I heard) by 1979. But Ed came back in early 1980s to WIS and remained there until his 1998 retirement.

The CW also changed channels in Charlotte last year as WJZY became FOX-46 and CW moved to WCCB.

I know that because FOX bought WJZY 46 and WMYT 55 and making Charlotte's first network O&O stations.

I've got a question, when a TV station changes their network affiliations (EXAMPLE: like in Charlotte, NC WJZY switching from The CW to FOX O&O and WCCB switching from FOX to The CW on July 1, 2013) why can't syndicated programs changed stations like TV stations changed their affiliations which means for example Ellen and The Simpsons still staying on WCCB 18 and Two and A Half Man still staying on WJZY 46?

Syndicated shows are a separate contract from the network affiliations. Individual stations choose the syndicated programming they acquire the rights to air, and this does not effect the network affiliation.

Just like WCBD in Charleston, SC still aired Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! after the NBC switch in August 1996 when ABC was relocated to WCIV by Allbrittion's deal with network....Another example! Also Charleston didn't pick up Alex Trebek's Jeopardy! until September 1985 also the first few years of nighttime Wheel and Jeopardy! wasn't seen in Columbia, SC during the mid-1980s, but WIS cleared Wheel and J! by 1988 before moving to their current home WOLO aka ABC Columbia in September 1992 (the same time as Los Angeles ABC O&O KABC-TV became the last ABC O&O to acquired J! and Wheel from rival CBS O&O KCBS formerly KNXT while it's already aired on other ABC O&Os like WABC in NYC J! since late-1984 and Wheel since September 1990, WLS in Chicago aka the oldest ABC O&O station to air Wheel and J! from the beginning in the 1980s also where the late ABC Newsman Frank Reynolds got his start when it was WBKB, KFSN in Fresno, WTVD in Raleigh, WPVI in Philly I think, and KGO in SF since 1992). While here in GSP Wheel and J! have been seen since it's 1980s inceptions in first-run syndication on NBC station WYFF at first and then currently on ABC station WLOS since September 9, 1985 despite WMYA My40 airing last seasons reruns of J! at 6pm weeknights here in the Western Carolinas similar to Atlanta, GA DMA like WXIA and WATL.

I liked it mostly because I'm in an outlying area (near St. Matthews) and WZRB has had quite a weak ERP since they went digital, and thus wasn't able to be picked up OTA here, unlike WKTC. Not receiving ION TV isn't particularly troubling, since they don't do original programming, unlike the CW.

evilcoleslaw, Do you get adjacent market stations OTA (like Myrtle Beach or Charleston) besides Columbia, SC? If so what stations do you get mostly and less mostly from out of market OTA?

Every once in a while I'll be able to pick up WCSC out of Charleston and WAGT out of Augusta, but not with much regularity.

I've got a question for Judge Alex fans in the Midlands, do they show the now-defunct court show in HD in Columbia? In Greenville, SC is shown in Crude SD unfortunately.

A question for Midlands: Since I do get the majority Columbia, SC OTA signals in Greenwood, SC (Southern Upstate) except ex-CW (now ION O&O) WZRB 47.

What's your favorite Midlands TV station? WIS 10 (NBC), WLTX 19 (CBS), WOLO 25 (ABC), WRLK 35 (SCETV/PBS), WACH 57 (FOX) or WKTC 63 (The CW/MyNetworkTV)? And why?

For years, WIS-10 was the main heritage station in Columbia. But now there may be other contenders such as WLTX and WOLO.
