Another interesting result. My previous testing (see post 20 of this thread) was with the following setup:

System: Desktop, Firefox 30.0, Windows 7

At the end of this testing, I reset "posts per page" to default in AVS Control Panel. then I switched to Internet Explorer 11 and logged in. So the new configuration is:

System: Desktop, Internet Explorer 11, Windows 7, posts per page = default

I clicked the link in Keith's sig and went straight to the FAQ! So then I went into AVS Control Panel using IE11 and changed "posts per page" to 100. So the new configuration was as follows:

System: Desktop, Internet Explorer 11, Windows 7, posts per page = 100

I then went to the same wrong post as when I was using Firefox with "posts per page" set to 100 when clicking on Keith's link (see post 20 of this thread). So I switched the "posts per page" setting back to the default. Now I have this configuration:

System: Desktop, Internet Explorer 11, Windows 7, posts per page = default

That is, same configuration as when I first tried IE and went to the correct page. Result? Wrong page! In fact, it's the same wrong page as post 20 of this thread when using Firefox with the default "posts per page".

I just did the following additional test.

System: Desktop, Firefox 30.0, Windows 7
  1. Set posts per page to 100
  2. Click FAQ link - goes to post 71601 (wrong post)
  3. Set posts per page to default
  4. Click FAQ link - goes to post 21481 (wrong post)
  5. Close Firefox and open it back up
  6. Click FAQ link - goes to FAQ as it should!

The above is completely repeatable. So it appears that in order to see the fix that occurs when posts per page is reset to the default, I must close Firefox and reopen it. Once that is done, I can repeatably go directly to the FAQ.

This is consistent with my experience in editing posts... internal links don't work properly after Saving until I Refresh the page.

PHILIPS HD DVRs | MAG/PHILIPS SD DVDRs* | DVDR/DVR COMPARISONS | POST-DVDR OPTIONS
*Due to the AVS SW change in June 2014, most but not all links in this thread will work if you're not logged in. If you are logged in, links should work if your User CP > Edit Options > Number of Posts to Show per Page is set to 30, the default.

Lightbulb UPID and Links landing 100%

This is going to solve the problem of links landing 100% of the time. This method will not be difficult to implement. We have to train ourselves to learn what a TRUE peramlink is in this VB format. That key was found in the URL revealed while looking through "All Post by User" and cherry picking my troubled link. My sig "Macros via Cell" was going arbitrary landing zone dependent upon URL I selected per Post Per Page parameters. I prefer 20 post per page. Therefore only people who had a similar setting would land correctly on my post. Even Guest user would land in different spots, as the default guest PPP is 30

Spoiler!

We need a peramlink that will work for Guest AND User regardless of PPP (post per page) This is it: Unique Post ID Find this number by hovering over your post of posts Misleading permalink popup.jpg You may want to copy the link location and paste it in notepad to get the UPID

The Magic:
post24101652.html?highlight=#post24101652
This is an example of the segment of URL you will need to use. You will have your unique post id number. Copy and Paste your UPID into both places, then copy the entire segment into your Signature/ or Post.

Here are two examples of segments done with UPID for Thread host KB.

post21782993.html?highlight=#post21782993 WELCOME TO THE AUDYSSEY FAQ AND 'AUDYSSEY 101'!
post21783025.html?highlight=#post21783025 FIRST TIME AUDYSSEY USER? FOLLOW THIS AUDYSSEY 101!

Seen below on lines 5 and 7 are the segments pasted correctly with UPID's respective.

I've tested this in IE 11, Chrome, and FF 30 in desktop mode, using default forum skin on a Win 8.1 machine.

Same here. Until I sussed that, I wasted quite a bit of time re-editing the Audyssey FAQ and tearing out my hair because the links didn’t work.

That is fabulous work. I can't see very many people doing this every time they want to link to a post but hopefully your work here will help VerticalScope provide a transparent fix for the problem. Great job!

I have implemented Woob's workaround in my sig and asked people in the Audyssey thread to test it for me. Works fine for me. Many thanks Woob... great job!

Resp. to Keith Barnes re: links not working

Keith,
Saw your post this morning and gave it a try, but I'm not sure that I'm winding up at the correct place.

If I set the posts/page to "default" or manually to 30 I wind up at post 19950 which doesn't appear to be the post with the FAQ unless I'm mistaken. If I try the "101" link I also wind up at 19950. The "REW" and "Distance" links work correctly.

I tried several different posts/page settings just to see what would happen. In all cases the "REW" and "Distance" links worked correctly but the "FAQ" and "101" links behaved as follows:

40 p/p winds up at post 2700
100 p/p winds up at post 100
5 p/p winds up at post 68120

This behavior was the same in Firefox and IE. Let me know if they need any other testing.

@kbarnes701 Do you have ownership of the 1st page? Cause your FAQ reside in pre-VB (parsable) UPID's. Thus the only way I see these new handmade shortcuts working would be to go to 51780, 51779, and 51778 and copy the posts sequentially into the last page to obtain the newer integers that would allow for shortcuts and spot on landings for the (jumpto/anames). Test basic functionality, change the first post title. Delete the aforementioned after a week or two of life in there new home or just leave two copies.. JIC
I like the latter idea.. have two copies. Grab a parcel of land on the tail end of the thread.

You could test this theory in your other Test Post because it has the newer that 6/11/2014 UPID's

Unless VS and the Vbees have a plan, I don't see any other way..

Thanks Woob. I could grab the parcel, as you call it, on the tail end of the thread. Not sure if it would be good form to have two FAQ posts though, and it would double my maintenance work. But I could always delete the original - but then the problem would be that all the hundreds of links to the FAQ and individual answers in the rest of the thread would be invalid of course. IDK how many people browse a thread that long but some might and every old FAQ link they hit would be wrong. As it stands, most people would, I think, get taken to the right place.

I am still hopeful that VS and the vBees come up with a solution (great name that ).

I'm using IE 10 on Windows 7 and Keith's sig links are working fine with 100 posts per page. However, from the subscribed threads page, clicking the link to what used to be the last read post is now always taking me to the last post (the same as clicking to the far right where the last poster is shown):

Did this change intentionally? If so, is there a different way to get to the last read post??

@kbarnes701 I notice a snafu in his sig links and it is listed above.. Yet you may want to try to exit both browsers and flush all cache/cookies and relog. If you still fail in any PPP then Keith needs to check the URL I supplied above.
