I bought the UHD HDR Atmos lossless audio version of Elysium from the Kaleidescape store, downloaded it to my Kscape Strato, and watched it last night. Unless you are a Strato owner, you can’t see and hear this exact version, although the UHD HDR version can be rented or bought from Amazon. The Amazon version is streamed, though, so it will come with only lossy audio. I liked the movie well enough, particularly the scenery chewing nastiness of Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, and William Fichtner, all playing evil oppressors of the masses on a post Apocolyptic earth. The story is pretty mindless but the special effects and action sequences are good.
The film has an excellent HDR treatment. Nothing is overdone and the overall picture is much brighter than I have been accustomed to seeing in HDR films. Bottom line, this is one of the best looking UHD HDR films I have seen. The Atmos audio is good, sometimes excellent, but still far from the best I have heard. Recommended, but only if you, like me, enjoy loud and dumb films if they have excellent ensemble casts, and look and sound great. 7 Stars out 10.
