It seems that this discussion ignores the fact that there will still be a huge market out there for UHD and regular BD discs for many years to come due to the lack of High Speed Internet. Only major market areas presently have sufficient speeds and bandwidth to stream UHD, while the rest of the country has little more than dial-up speeds.

Samsung UN55HU8550/SEK-3500U 4K TV, and UBD-K8500 BR Player. Receivers: Denon AVR-X4300H - 5.1.4., Denon AVR-X2200W.
JBL Spearkers: Center Studio 235C, 2 - Studio 590 - L&R, ES250PBK Sub, 2 - ES90 Towers - L&R surround, 2 - Studio 230 - front height, 2 - ES20 - rear height.

No that wasn't true of VHS and DVD. DVD sales had greatly surpassed VHS sales. WHile BD sales never surpassed DVD sales. And both DVD and BD sales have been waning for years now.

Excellent marketing, which is totally fine. What is curious to me is how much of the world is asleep at the wheel until Apple marketing wakes them up to that which has already been done in so many instances by somebody else, and why those somebodies don't seem as skillful at marketing....

Gimme a disk any day of the week over streaming. I'm sure that will change one day, but you're right - not in the immediate future. Of course these days, the immediate future is only a year or two, seems like things are progressing quite rapidly in the industry......???

That's not true at all. Way more than major markets can get a 15 Mbps signal.

Disc die hards always use this Bs argument that's unbelievably false.

My parents live in an old decaying coal mining town in West Virginia with a couple thousand people and they still get 25 Mbps Comcast.

The idea that remote villagers without 20 Mbps will hold up support for a niche product like uhd Blu Ray is one of the most ridiculous concepts I've heard.

I think as soon as they can add lossless audio to the streams discs may die. The visual difference just isn't that big to most people. Maybe won't even have to go as high as lossless, but just hitting the lossy quality currently on discs would be enough. No matter how loud I turn up the volume on a stream, it just does not sound close to the audio quality I hear from discs.

The auditory difference also isn't that big to most people either. Unfortunately. Heck, most people use their TV speakers for audio anyway.

Hopefully though, UHD BD sales continue to thrive. I would love for those UHD/HDR disc sales to surpass the 2K BD sales.

See here is what I think. When VHS died there was only DVD. When blu-ray came along DVD did not go away so of course there are people who refused to upgrade. If you discontinue the format then people will have no choice and blu-ray would become just as common as DVD.

Though the real thing here i think is the blu-ray alliance and DVD association aren't exactly friends and they don't want to drop their format even if it's totally obsolete. You can't even buy a tv today that isn't HD can you? I think 720p is the minimum these days but to be honest I really have no idea.

It's very....weird to see how die hard some people are about streaming "killing off" disc based media.

Also, let me know when all of these places that now get 20Mbps or more can hold those sustained speeds during peak hours on weekdays and weekends. Or do you also believe that the peak wattage of an amplifier channel means it can deliver that power for sustained output while simultaneously providing the same sustained peak for other channels all while running off one power supply?

Complaints are starting to come in. Please stick to the topic of the thread... "Currently Available Titles". This is not the thread for discussing whether streaming will kill off discs, Apple Marketing, etc. Plenty of threads on that topic.

VHS didn't die until after the BD format launched. People still had close to 100 million VHS players when the BD format launched.
EDIT: after reading the previous post
I hope the HDR UHD BD format ends up with over 100 million players. That would be great for the format.
I know I am doing my part. I've purchased around 150 UHD BD titles now. I need to pick up the UHD BD of Zero Dark Thirty today from best buy. Hopefully it looks great in HDR.

Is this going to be a trend? Best Buy has the UHD BD exclusive for Zero Dark Thirty until December.

I am waiting for older movies that appeal to me to become available on UHD and only if they are superior to BD and DVD. I am not at all interested in UHD releases of mindless super human, comic book characters and ape movies ..

Wonder woman on UHD is available whooopeee!

For a 35 year old movie it looks amazingly good.
It was scanned from film so the grain is to be expected. Especially from a 35 year old movie.

If the grain wasn't there then I would be pissed. Because that would mean they removed it, which would mean it doesn't look like it should.

When the whole picture turns unfocused its like a DVD version.
For me it Seems they focused more on parts of the movie for the Uhd magic as its so a up n down transfer.

Good movie but...

Dont know if its been said, but the digital code for the new mummy 4k doesn't enter on vudu at all...At least for me.. The google doc that shows where to redeem says that vudu is waiting for hdr10 support, but I figured it should redeem in hdx while we wait...honestly I might get the new apple tv ...This movie with its bad reviews is $14.99, and if that give me the HDR 4k version for that price I'm in if it turns out to be good then I saved $10!

Not excellent quality? Others state differently. No problem. Many liked Kong: Skull Island. The sound in the first 15 minutes made me rip it out of my Oppo. In that film if anyone breathed it would be sub sonic - no thank you. Took it out and gave it to my brother. He takes anything I give him. Will wait on more reviews of Blade Runner and thanks for you opinion and was just about to order it. Thankfully Amazon hates non club prime members and couldn't order it and now have held off. Maybe I'll order it later as it is a favorite BD disc of mine if other still praise the 4K disc over the BD.

Watched the new Mummy...movie was ok. I thought it had the chance to be a fun popcorn summer movie, but it just fell flat...Not the worst

The picture is a mixed bag too...sometimes too soft, around the edges of shots and the occasional close up/then it sometimes fine...the black levels are really milky, and only a few scenes look right. I dont seem to see extra detail in the darkness so the light black levels are just a distraction. The pub scene was pretty bad...But when theres a bright light or outdoors at daytime its great! Really great color...but its such a drab dark movie that its not much of a selling point...Id say get it as cheap as you can, this is no reference disc

Theres reviews this is a referance disc out there ...... far far from it
If it's not better than my best UHD/HDR content (Revenant, Lucy, Planet Earth, etc) it is certainly (at least) equal to.

Gonna check it out tonight so I hope its not soft...reviews are all over the place it seems, but I wanted to see it ,so
I redeemed "The Mummy 2017" on FandangoNow and got the UHD version but you have to redeem right on FandangoNow and NOT the Universal site and then pick FandangoNow.

That's not a fault of the scan, those scenes are exactly the same in the 2007 BD release, I'd suspect the source material is the cause.

Well, if the first 10 minutes of Baby Driver are any indication, this has a chance at a true reference film.
