Forza 7 in 4K HDR on Gamersyde, get ready to be blown away!

I've dowloaded these videos, put them on a USB stick and watched it on a LG C7 OLED.

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_forza_7_in_hdr_on_gamersyde_-19287_en.html

This looks incredible, especially the second video with the rain effects!

What do you guys think?

Hello.

I'm the guy who encoded these videos for Gamersyde. It was my first time doing HDR10 stuff (and using the files captured from or Shogun inferno) and while I did all I could to make the end result look right I can't say for sure that the white levels and colors are right, especially for the Dubai video. Since the second video (rain) has more muted colors I think it looks for the most part right and the end with the sky is quite amazing

I think...That I was already about to take the plunge for a B7 and these comments aren't helping.
Thanks, Blimblim!

Looking real nice on my LG C6
The best looking car game I have ever seen.
The amount of details and the real nice looking weather is mind blowing
I would love a Forxa vs GT sport comparison..
But I guess we won't see that for a while

GT Sport will also have Wide Color Gamut support, that might give it an edge. Though it's not native 4K, unlike FM7.

Hey Blim! Nice to see you here. ;-)

These videos are game changer if you ask me, it's a huge difference with the SDR Forza 7 videos. I'm sure the full game will look ever more impressive in HDR. I think this game is system seller if you into racing games, it looks fenomenal! The last time i was this impressed with a racer was when i saw PGR 3 at the launch of the Xbox 360. That was crazy. You guys are doing great, i hope to see more awesome HDR videos.

How many videos are there? I'm gonna try to download these to my Galaxy S8+.

BTW, I thought the new Gt sport was 4k? Pretty sure the creator did a lot interview talking about making the game 4k and hdr with 10,000 nits grading.

Yup 4k 60fps
But the beta was 1080p, so don't judge the game by the current videos uploaded
We will see the real graphics soon enough.

The first video played fine on my Sony X800 UHD BD player. Streaming it over my network from the PC the file is on. I'm still waiting for the second file to download. It's extremely slow at around a 5Mb/s download speed.

I definitely like what I saw. They took HDR and resolution to another level when compared to Horizon 3 with HDR. I'm looking forward to Forza 7 on the XB1X in HDR and 4K. But I'm really looking forward to see what Horizon 3 looks like on the XB1X in 4K and HDR.

On the first video you could see the grains of sand blow across the road. And then you could easily see more detail in the hills as you drove by along with great shadow detail when the hills were in the shade from the sun.

EDIT: Hopefully I can check out the second video soon. I see the download speed droped to only 2Mb/s now

It seems @Blimblim added a few more: http://www.gamersyde.com/news_ps4_pr...-19292_en.html

It was pointed out in the HDR master list thread that they are now on YouTube as well:

I notice they're all encoded at 1000 nits. Is that what the games are playing them at?

I know the videos look like it does when I play Foza Horizon 3 in HDR. Only much more detail and realism. That second video looked so real with the rain and lightning. Plus the reflections etc.

These videos look great! Thanks so much for putting them up for us to view them. I did notice that they have quite a bit of HDR range in them but that the encoding is setting the metadata as peaking at 1000 nits.

you can look at them using 'mediainfo':
Color primaries : BT.2020
Transfer characteristics : SMPTE ST 2084
Matrix coefficients : BT.2020 non-constant
Mastering display color primaries : R: x=0.680000 y=0.320000, G: x=0.265000 y=0.690000, B: x=0.150000 y=0.060000, White point:
x=0.312700 y=0.329000
Mastering display luminance : min: 0.0001 cd/m2, max: 1000.0000 cd/m2
Maximum Content Light Level : 1000 cd/m2
Maximum Frame-Average Light Level : 400 cd/m2

I scanned a few frames of them and found that they have pixels in the 2000-3000 cd/m2 range for the rain one (video 2) and even over 5000 cd/m2 in video 1. I'm dumping out a few frames using ffmpeg:
ffmpeg -y -threads 4 -i e3_forzahdr_2.mp4 -an -sn -vsync 0 -vf "select=not(mod(n\,1000))" output_%03d.tiff

If this video really goes up that high it might be interesting to re-encode with higher metadata and see how the different displays deal with tone mapping it more. Try setting 2086 to peak of 5000 and maxcll/fall to 5000,400 in x265 something like this:

--master-display "G(13250,34500)B(7500,3000)R(34000,16000)WP(15635, 16450)L(50000000,50)" \
--max-cll "5000,399" \

updated...
I looked at some of the other HDR files uploaded and I see that they have even close to 10,000 cd/m2 pixels (the sun in one of them). You might consider trying mapping them down to a value closer to many TVs. I've made a LUT to do that which you can get here:

w w w . mediafire.com/file/9z27pyir4oh93yk/INTEGER_LUT_1000.cube

I tested this by transcoding some of the files and I feel like this solves the clipped or burned out highlights that some sections exhibit. Try this out; you might need to cherry pick the ffmpeg incantations here:

#!/usr/bin/env bash

set -x

FFMPEG="<path to latest ffmpeg>"

function Encode {
$FFMPEG -y -loglevel quiet -i $SOURCE".mp4" -an -sn \
-vf "lut3d=INTEGER_LUT_1000.cube" \
-pix_fmt yuv420p10le -r 59.94 \
-f rawvideo -vcodec rawvideo - | x265 --input - \
--input-depth 10 --input-res 3840x2160 --fps 59.94 \
--profile main10 --level-idc 51 --no-high-tier --hdr-opt \
--cbqpoffs -6 --crqpoffs -6 \
--crf 12 --aq-mode 3 --aq-strength 2.0 \
-p medium --bframes 12 -I 72 --sar 1 --range limited \
--colorprim bt2020 --transfer 16 --colormatrix bt2020nc --chromaloc 2 \
--master-display "G(13250,34500)B(7500,3000)R(34000,16000)WP(15635, 16450)L(9990000,50)" \
--max-cll "999,399" \
--repeat-headers \
-o $SOURCE".bin"

rm -fv audio.aac;
$FFMPEG -y -i $SOURCE".mp4" -vn -c:a copy audio.aac

$FFMPEG -y -f hevc -r 59.94 -i $SOURCE".bin" -i audio.aac -c copy $SOURCE"_1000.mp4"

}

I have an LG Oled tv witch works great with HDR when using Xbox One S, but on my projector(JVC RS420) I cant get it to work, so starting to worry if there is any point in getting the Xbox One X.. Would be great to play with 4K and HDR on the projector..

If the metadata is specified at 1000nits, it's impossible for any pixel to go over that. That's what the metadata is for. It defines the brightest possible value as being 1000nits. That allows for a greater range of values between 0-1000nits compared to if you encoded it without any metadata (which is the same as encoding for 10,000 nit metadata)

Encoding them with that new metadata will simply make everything darker and change the gamma as well.

Just be prepared for extremely slow download speeds and long waits. For the two Forza 7 videos the fastest I saw was 5Mbps. And it took around an hour to download.

Thanks. I remember seeing that option. But I only use one specific PC for Torrents. And I never booted it up to try those downloads. If I download some of the other videos I'll need to try the Torrents then.
