Looking to put a Chicagoland meet together Feb 28th... A possible alternate would be Feb 21st depending on overall interest.

To help scope out the overall travles required, I'm located in the NW Burbs in the Huntley,Algonquin, Lake in Hills area.

Further details to follow as things shape up and I get a better idea of interest but thought I'd at least get the flag in the ground so people can get this on their calendars.

Well that's a start. And a fantastic start it is with the famous Mark S in attendance.

Thanks Mark for stepping up in the #1 spot.

Just a little background on my theater incase anyone was wondering... It may not be at the level as some of the other elite represented here but it makes for an enjoyable presenetation in my humble opinion and is entirely DIY.

Video
JVC RS1, SMX Screen, PS3, HDDVD, HD Cable

Audio
HK receiver
4 - EP2500's for Sub and LCR amplification
2 - DCX crossover / EQ/ speaker management
Klipsch RB75/RC7 LCR, RB15 surrounds 7.1
DIY 4x15" subwoofers

Room
Screenwall with subs and LCR concealed
Acoustically transparent SMX screen
Berkline motorized recliners

Potential changes prior to meet... time and funding allowing of course....???
DIY mains and surrounds
Room cosmetics
Additional acoustic treatments

Either way it should be a good time just to get some local enthusiasts together for some good bull shooting.

How do you like the RB-75's?

Thanks,

The RB75's have served me very well over the last couple years. I really have no complaints as they've done everything they are supposed to. However, at some point soon I'd like to take it to the next level. Both in capability and also by matching 3 identical speakers across the front. With the screenwall I have no need to have a "traditional" horizontal center configuration.

Do you have any tentative plans for the DIY speaker options? How much space do you have back there?

Yes I have a few options that I'm considering. I have flexibility in the actual final driver suite but fundamentally what I've done to ready for the transition is that I have a dedicated EP2500 wired for each main. That backed up by a DCX for crossover and response shaping. Essentially I'm geared up for an active 2 way main with what I'd hope to be ample power/headroom for whatever it ends up being. That could easily turn into a hybrid passive/active 3way as well.

For space I have tons of room with a few constraints... The cavity behind the screen is fairly deep (approx 3') but has tapered sides toward the edges like this \\___/ . The other wild card is directly in the middle of the screen is a framed in box type feature that extends from the floor into the lower part of the screen. This "box" structure hides the sump pump. Best way to think of it is similar to an old 36" tube TV on a low stand directly behind/below the screen in the middle. This currently serves as my center speaker stand. So in that sense a larger center would have to be horizontal, tweeter mid on bottom, or live with tweeter mid on the higher side.... otherwise go with a more compact 2 way. I could put a picture up if that may help... or we can discuss offline as appropriate.

Other than that I can fit just about anything back there.... and with some creativity make even more happen.

Sounds like there is plenty of flexibility to work with there. I'd hate to see you rush a full range speaker project knowing how much can go into all of the little details and making it all fit in your room.

Would you be interested in me relieving the pressure to build and bring in some speakers for the weekend? Being in the general area makes this a lot easier, and while it's too early to make any hard commitments on what, there's no question I can have "something fun" around and available.

By no means is this a requirement for my attendance nor for this to be a very fun meet, but just an offer which could be fun for all.

Absolutely... more fun and mischief the better..

We can work out the details offline and report back whatever the outcome when things solidify.

Should be good fun for all! Of course it's hard to let new fun toys leave when it's all over....

I should be able to make it also. It would be nice to get the Chicago droup started again. We have not had a G2G for a long while.

Got your PM z'. We'll definitely find something fun to have set up for the meet. I mentioned the meet to Jeff Permanian of JTR, and he'll almost certainly make it as well. Between the two of us there's no shortage of fun options.

I'll be sure to make mention to a few others in the area who might not otherwise stumble on the thread here.

Hey Jeff,

I've been very busy.

I agree there always has been a good group of interested enthusiasts in the area. Thanks to zamboniman for getting the ball rolling on a new meet.

Nice, good to see some Illinois action underway! BTW, are you planning an afternoon or evening meet? I'm open either way, just need to let my friend know. Thanks!

Fairly confident that we'll start up in the early to mid afternoon..... if it ends up being anything like some of the other meets lately it will go well into the evening hours. We'll just have to see how things come together over the next couple weeks depending on how many folks attending etc.. once I get a better handle on the magnitude that will dictate events, how structured it may be, and how long it may go..... Basically count on an afternoon start.. and makinging it whenever you can

More hotties the better... Nothing makes a better meet than huge speakers and hotties. Except maybe some liqour, huge speakers, and hotties!??

The stack er um hmmm why would I want that old thing Although I can't say that I blame you for throwing it away for a light bulb... after all I made the switch to the light side a year ago and haven't looked back.
