I moved into a new construction townhouse in 11/08. I had the option of having the basement finished or not. As much as I wanted to wait and do it later, I was afraid later would end up being MUCH later. I had to use the builder's sub contractor to do the wiring before the walls were put up. I bought all my own wire thru monoprice and was there while the basement was wired. It all came out ok, I'm glad I had it done right away.

I hear ya, g_bartman. We were considering finishing our basement, but then decided it would be better to save the cost and effort and to simply leave as is and move to a bigger house with an existing finished basement. My dilema stems from having to work around an existing finished basement that is not set up the way I'd like it to be. We have 3 cats that I want to keep out of my little man-cave area. They LOVE to climb and scratch. I have no place now where it is possible to lock them out of. The house we looked at in Strongsville had a beautifully finished basement with tons of space, but it was all open. I would prefer a room with doors, preferably "lockable" ones as there's a 15, 13 and 11 year old girl as well!

To qualify that last statement: I was in the garage last night grilling, and noticed one of my socket sets sitting out of place. I noticed about a half dozen misc. sockets missing. I inquired if any of the girls knew anything, and the middle fessed up and said it fell when she was looking for something. If I had not found it she would never had said anything.

Also, keep in mind that March 14 is the beginning of DST, so the GTG will be an hour LATER than it would have been the prior Sunday!

Did everyone agree on 3PM? or was it 2?

Thanks for the DST reminder, I forgot about that.

Was the big open area to the point where you couldn't build make a couple of rooms our of it?

I considered the possibility of closing off an area like that, but it is a professionally finished basement and to mess with it and try to keep it nice and complement the rest of the basement is not something I want to do. Not to say I would never attempt it, just would rather not.

3 pm is the consensus so that's where it stands. My basement is a pretty good size for a townhouse but certianly not as big as a standard homes would be. I have had it with exterior upkeep at this point in my life and my wife and I found a layout we both liked so there you have it. A lot of the ideas I got on how to lay out the basement and what equipment to consider was form talking to other ht owners and researching this forum. And George, I have pinball fx, is that what you have? Plaese post in this thread if you are going to attend. I know Tony will be bringing some material and needs to know how mant copies to bring. Looking forward to the meet

And, no I don't have Pinball FX, I may bring the one I have, I've a feeling you'll like it.

I need someone to do the framing, drywall, and installation of the bathroom and wet bar/kitchenette.

I can do wiring (and trust me I have a ton planned) and thats about it.

Have you been in touch with Robb Wilson?

He's a contractor out in Westlake that I've had do some work in my house. Very competent and patient when you're busy debating with the wife exactly what needs to go where and what color.

Price-wise I wouldn't know if he's cheap or expensive, but it was decent for the quality of work performed.

I can call him to get in touch with you if you would like. Just PM me if you're interested and I'll forward his phone number to you.

Cheers,

Steve

Looking forward to this meet. As soon as we firm up the number of attendees I'll be ready to put together the handouts and cd's. All of the software can be had on the net, but I think if one can take to fuss out of things it's best for the hobby. bartman, I just need 15min. if your putting an agenda together. I'm also looking forward to some of the other members thought's and ideas.

There is no parking on my side of the street. You can park on stone ridge way if my street is full. I am keeping the agenda loose as most of us will be meeting for the first time. I encourage everyone to ask questions and tell us about your system. Tony (tbase) will be discussing media sharing and is gracious enought to bring some handouts. I have been into audio equipment as long as I can remember. Bought my first system with my 8th grade grad money, I've made a few changes and upgrades since then. My system consists of 7 definitive technology speakers, 6 of them are bipolar. My main l/r are "powered towers" (built in powered subs) driven by a mcintosh solid stata amp. My other 5 speakers are driven by a rotel amp. Between the 7 speaker cabinets, there are 26 6.5" drivers and 13 1" tweerers. I also have 3 outboard subs, 1 18" and 2 12". Everything is controled by an onkyo receiver. Just wanted to give some background.

To give a little background on my equipment: (Mind you, it is all boxed up at the moment)

Front L/R: Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1's in natural bamboo

Center: An old B&W 600 series(Pre-yellow Kevlar woofers)

No currnet surrounds (Had Axiom QS8's, but sold them for the cash)

D.I.Y. Rythmik Audio 12" Direct servo sub

Toshiba HD-1A(?) HD-DVD player

Panasonic BD-55 Bluray player

Have an old Yamaha 5-disc CD player in the box

Have a Pioneer LaserDisc player in the box

Marantz SR6003 receiver

Was using my 32" Sharp Aquous LCD TV, but that is now the bedroom set

That's it! May attempt some D.I.Y. surrounds, or simply pick up another set of Ascends for that.

The river was a lot quieter than I expected.

I rode my bike yesterday, the weather was great. It's funny you mention the river because I was thinking I should have had my camera with me to film the river.

Last winter at about this date we took the Grand-kids, then age 2 & 5 to see the falls. The noise and the high water level were scary.

Where are the falls?
If on Bagley Road look North when on the bridge.
Or go North from Bagley Road towards the park, at the house with the "Caesar's Bridge" sign turn right, go about 100 yards to the observation deck on the right.

We knew the lady that owned the "Caesar's Bridge" house, but she didn't know how it got that name.

Not certain if I can make it today. I'd say I'm 50/50 right now. Have been extremely busy at work which has me working from home a lot as well.
