Hey fellow Seattle area AVS members! I just noticed this thread and had an idea. I just bought my first house, and I'll be turning the downstairs living room into a home theater. Is there any interest in a meetup and help me set things up and run some cables into the walls? I'd be happy to buy some pizzas and beers for the occasion!

I hope this isn't an inappropriate use of this thread, but I just wanted to let people know that I'm selling my SVS PB-13 Ultra subwoofer. (I'm switching to a dual sub setup, and I'm not sure I have the room for two of these!) Since it's so large, I'm really hoping for a local sale. I put up something in the classifieds area, but if you know of anyone who may be interested, please just feel free to PM me. It works just like it did the day I bought it, so I'd be happy to give a demo.

Thanks!

Just came across this thread. I actually had an ad on craigslist looking for local HT enthusiasts to get together and compare. I wouldn't mind helping out, where are you located? I don't have a full setup yet so it would be nice learn a few things. I ran cable for a living for a couple years for CCTV and Fire Alarms so I know a couple of things and have some tools.

I just did similar upgrades for my media room transformation about a year ago, so I could maybe offer some help - or at least some advice on "do's" or "don't do's". For example: Don't drill through the hardwood floors upstairs if you're working in the ceiling below! eek.gif

FWIW, I'm hoping to host a GTG sometime in late May/early June. I'm just waiting on the confirmed date for my AccuCal calibration, then I'll get a GTG scheduled. If you haven't started your project by then, this might be a good opportunity to see how my room ended up.

On a side note, I heard dla's sub a few years ago, and it was quite impressive! Hm, I wonder how well it would integrate with my turbo'd MFW-15? smile.gif

Mak99, definitely keep us posted on a get together. I would like to meet others in the area that are into HT. Will this be a regular get together where folks can bring equipment to listen to or just a demo or your set up?

About that... I've flip-flopped a few times since my posting about selling the PB13U and ultimately decided instead of selling it, I should just get another one. tongue.gif I found a good used one in Seattle, and with the money I save, I should hopefully be able to upgrade my LCR channels. I got an awesome demo of the Seaton Submersives, but to my chagrin, realized they wouldn't fit in my HT. (I'm not sure if Shawn is active here. He's got an amazing setup. I could have hung out there all day. smile.gif)

I'd love to attend GTG in the area. I can bring DIYSoundgroup's Tempest 12 and Alchemy MTM.

Amo, I just received my parts today for the MTM. Do you have any pics of your build? I think I am going to go simple with just a duratex coating but always looking for other ideas. I think the plan is to do 3 across the fronts. I don't really have the psace for the Tempest but would love to hear them just in case. I currently have 2 Marty Cubes and working on the MTM.

Lol, that is a coincidence I just went from dual rw-12d subs to these Marty cubes. I am in the sumner area you are welcome to come by any time. Maybe bring a tempest over so I can check the size. Speaking of size, the Marty's are huge! It's almost a shock if you haven't seen a sub that large before.

Man I just saw this on my home computer instead of the phone. Those tempest are HUGE, they look as big as the klipsh subs.

Just an FYI there is a Facebook group for Seattle area HT called Seattle Home Theater Geeks. It is an open group so feel free to join! I did a massive gtg last year and will do one again this year as well. Hope to meet a lot of you soon!

Wow Kris. I just checked your setup, it is impressive. I'd love to hear Legacy speakers you have. Do you have an idea when you are going to setup the next gtg?

I hoping that it can be both, actually - I'll make sure to mention that in my upcoming GTG thread which I should post in the next few days, and provide a link here.

I'm finally working on the other big room in the basement that's long overdue for some updates (paint, lighting, etc), and I've been planning this to become a music room/lounge kind of area since I bought the house in late 2012. I hope to get most of the painting done by next week so I can at least unbox my two-channel gear (original Rega stuff) and get it set up. This setup should be easy to demo any gear people might bring (sources, speakers, amps, etc) as everything should be out in the open and accessible.

The media room could also be used for demoing other gear, as my rack is on wheels so would be easy to swap cables around, even with the rack located in an adjacent room. There should be enough speaker wire up front to place any demo speakers beside my current floorstanders. I also have unused 24" sand-filled stands for bookshelf speakers if needed.

Plus, I need to host a GTG before Kris does another one, otherwise people will be verrrrry disappointed in my system! wink.gif I did have the pleasure of meeting Kris about a month ago for an afternoon of AV discussions and a personal demo of his system. Kris was absolutely great to hang out with, and his home theatre is absolutely amazing. Plus, I left with some great ideas to incorporate into my own media room in the near future. This is another reason for me to host a GTG - maybe my media room transformation from last year might give a fellow forum member some good ideas for their own upcoming project. I know I always appreciate a great idea!

Sub'd

Not sure if this thread still has life or if there are better ones to follow but I would love to attend a local GTG. I'm on the other side of the mountains (Ellensburg) but I have people I can stay with in Seattle.

+1! I joined the FB group and it looks like Kris Deering will be hosting something in October. With 120 members in the group, he might have to start selling tickets...

It sounds like Kris has put the event on hold until Spring at the earliest.
