Hey all, hope everyone is doing well. I'm loving my speakers, but my AVR is in desperate need of a replacement....perhaps you guys can help.
I was looking to spend a bit of money on my next AVR, but since it was to be a long-term solution, HDCP 2.2 is a must. So I've decided to get a cheaper AVR to hold me over until next year when 2.2 is everywhere. It also means I probably won't get to buy a Pioneer Elite, which was my #1
choice(due mainly to D3 amplification), but likely won't exist next year.
My budget is $350-$450. It seems like I can get more for my money if I get an older model. Top priority for me is sound quality and muscle; my speakers are 4-ohm standmounters so they're a bit thirsty. Reliability is also important.
My current choices, based on my limited Amazon sleuthing, are:
Marantz NR1403 slim line 5.1 $346.99
Denon AVR-E400 7.1 $349
Denon AVR-X1000 5.1 $348.88
Pioneer VSX-1124 7.2 $346.99
Onkyo TX-NR636 7.2 $448.06
I'm also open to going used if the value is good enough. The only reason I'm even considering the Onkyo is it has Atmos, which is a direction I'm interested in. The others are more or less neck-and-neck for various reasons. I wish I could glean anything remotely useful from the wattage ratings these guys publish.
Anyone have any advice for me?
