Is there anyone in the Atlanta area? What do you do at a "meetup"? I can't find anything. Heck, Maybe I'll start a meetup on meetup.

I'm surprised to see the lack of responses for Atlanta. I'm sure there are plenty of folks like me. I'm not active on AVS, but have used it as a resource for years. I've gone through the trials and tribulations of many projects and would welcome the collaboration of others in the area. I have experience with front projectors, DIY screens, subwoofer building, HD homeruns, MythTV, media center, ps3 media server, handbrake and a number of other topics near and dear to readers of avsforums.

Feel free to contact me if you want to collaborate on ideas. I'm moving to a new house this month and will be going through a number of new projects very soon.

Let me see if I can get some members to post here in this thread. Calling all AVS members who are located in the ATL area. Please leave a post and the equipment you own so we can see if there is an interest in meeting each other's HT rooms and systems.

Just moved to Buford, GA I would LOVE to see some other setups. So hard to see stuff outside of megasystems that I could NEVER afford.

I looked around for some of the stores to see if they carry the projectors you are looking for but most of them carry the more expensive ones. There is the Magnolia Design Center near Perimeter Mall that carry the higher end stuff. There is also Georgia Home Theater over by Marietta. The closet store to you would be Evolution Home Theater at Pleasent Hill Road off of 85.

I only have a family HT system with a 70" Sharp but I have a great sound system with 4 subwoofers that gets high marks when ppl visit. You welcome to visit when you schedule permits.

You lucky ^%&@#%..........tongue.gif

I also have to hide all wires and still "no" price talk. As per the "official" record, I probably paid $800.00 for all the gear that you see at my gallery................eek.gifwink.giftongue.gif

Nice to see you drop in. I never heard that description before. Yes It would be fun for us all to meet up and head to Gainsville for a tour of the Danley Shop. I have a couple of busy weeks and weekends coming up for work, so for me, I won't be able to do that till middle of July.  But I will try and contact them to see if that is something they offer. BTW I'm not familar with your HT system. Would you care to share some info on what you currently own?

Wow, thank you.

I may check out Georgia HT, just went to Evolution today. He's really pushing the Sony along with the Paradigm speakers.

May pick up the Paradigm set, going to test them this weekend, I can get them for the same cost as the Klipsch set. I'll have to see which sound I like better.

I'm between going for it with the Sony or saving some dollars with the BenQ W7000 or one of the other $1500 range projectors. But that Sony 50es was quite lovely.

Which version of the Paradigms? I actually bought a HGS-12 Velodyne from them many years ago. They really are a nice bunch to work with. Here's a review of the Sony if you are interested.

I blanked and didn't get the model. But they were the larger bookshelf that they had there. I'm going to get the model numbers tomorrow.

I know it's the PDR-100 and Atom (he wrote those down).

I can get all those for $1563, a 110" Dragonfly screen for $899.

Also suggested the Marantz NR1603, but I think my Pioneer SC61 trumps it, and he wanted $600 for it (amazon has it for $500).

Getting real close on the sound system, now if I could just figure out the projector!

Anyone in the Atlanta area have or know where I can view a projector in the $1500 range like the BenQ, Mitsubishi, maybe Epson 8350?

Audio has been so much easier because I can buy a pair, listen, return. Not having that luck with projectors.

I recently visited a bunch of places to demo speakers, some may sell epson projectors. I'll try and dig up the business cards I collected and get you any potential info soon.

Hey Mbuck, I have never been to the Brandsmart store but maybe ambesolman can stop over there, since he lives right around the corner, to see if they have the Epson on display.

The Epson is out, didn't realize the 8350 didn't have 3D.

I think there's a brandsmart on the way into my office, I've never been and didn't think about them. Maybe HH Gregg too.

I'll likely go with the Sony, when you take into consideration the glasses and extra bulb, it brings the price down...still a good $1000+ more but I know it's one that will last; though I haven't ruled out the BenQ, Panasonic or Mitsubishi yet.

Our local HHGregg's does not have a room setup for PJs. So I would doubt the other ones would have a room setup.

What about the PowerLite Home Cinema 5020? Scratch that I thought it was cheaper.

Good call on that. I'm in upstate sc but it's only a short drive for me to ATL. I've been over to HTGs place and would make another trip too. Count me in.

I think all the Epson systems are out, too much lag for FPS gaming.

I just have to decide if I want to chance it at $1500 and hope it looks amazing or double my price with the Sony which I know looks amazing.

I'm having a tough time picking screen size.

The dedicated, light controlled room is 12x19x8 is 110" going to be too small?

Are you able to bump your budget up?

What aspect ration are you planning on buying 16:9 or 2.35:1? What is going to be the distance between your sitting area and screen? Any idea about what is your throwing distance?

16:9, throw is probably 110" at 17'

The closest seat will be 10'.

Still trying to determine best screen size, but thinking it's the 110".

That Sony 50ES is my max, unless you can convince me that a +$4000 projector is worth waiting and saving up for.

I started at $1000 for a budget, now I'm looking at a $3000+ projector in the mix. Yikes.

I think majority of us started like that. I mean with a specific budget that tends to go up as we look at the different options in the market. The Sony looks really good, but that puppy is almost $4K.........eek.gif

Anyway, if you are evaluating other options, then I would recommend you the Panasonic PT-AE8000U. Actually, here is a nice table (from Panasonic) that might help you with the projector throwing distance versus screen size:

http://panasonic.net/avc/projector/products/ae8000/positions.html

In my case, I'm using this projector with a 16:9 120" fixed frame screen. Really happy with this combo.......biggrin.gif

HTG asked me to post these. We are selling our home and the photos taken for the listing included the theater. Since the photographer used a 19 mm lens, there is some distortion. Also, the room is "cooler" in color since these have a brown tint to them.

Even when I'm not having a particularly good day, I am at least having a day!

Nice room...too bad we just bought a new home.

Where did you get the foam treatment on the back wall? Very cool look....I'd actually like some treatment on my ceiling, could be a good solution.
