I have family coming in town this weekend. Weekends are bad for me this fall, so if you do a weekday with an early start time, I might be able to pull it off.

I have eight 18" subs and can hear my dialogue perfectly fine. I run the bass 6-10dB hot in preference. If you can't hear the center channel dialogue you've got a setup issue, or a weak center channel - IMO.

what center channel are you running?

Not that there is anything wrong with two 15" --- just want to note that you can run a "lot of subs" and still have a balanced system --- where the bass is there in spades when called for - but not generally overwhelming all the time.
I can usually hear my center fine and it's not the problem it's that my room is pretty much open and not finished so the sound has to complete with hearing the AC kicking on and off and sound bouncing off concrete. Once the room is closed in it should be fine. Also my hearing loss seems to be more affected by list of the high. I don't always hear what my wife and kid say, but a man's voice is not a problem. I wouldn't mind some more subs it's just I want to get the room and basement done first, but will plan for extra subs.

My center is a Klipsch RC-7 that is powered by a 200 watt Mazantz 700 Mono Block. It should have plenty of power.

I am thinking of taking a loan out so I can get the basement and theater done. I'm tired of waiting to have it done.

Klipsch KPS-400’s FR/FL with built in 15” 300 watt side firing subs, RC-7 Center, RS-3 Surrounds.
Integra DHC-60.5, 5- Marantz MA700 Mono Blocks, Pioneer DV-F727 301 Disk DVD CD Changer, Pioneer DVL-909 Laserdisc/DVD/CD Player, Sony PS3.

I've got the coolest DTS-X demo clip to show you guys -- one I first saw at Axpona in Emotiva's demo this year.

We'll start at 7pm and maybe watch a couple movies. Come for one movie, or both.

Movies I'm considering showing

13th Warrior
or
Downfall
or
Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
or
Underworld Blood Wars
or
A Cure for Wellness
or

....
Any suggestions???
Sorry Jon I was out of town.

I remember reading The 13th Warrior when I was around 12 and during the first few chapter I thought that it was truly the translated biography of this historical figure. So I was just going nuts until I figured out that I had been duped. I felt pretty silly but hey.

I kind of liked the movie just because I was into the book and I like the idea.

It's like it was made for me. Greatest trailer I've ever seen. Machine gun fire matching up with iconic middle section of the songs kick drum part? You gotta be kidding me! I want to shake the guys hand that was in charge of putting this together.
Wow that was awesome. Looking forward to that one. Like you said the kick drum/gun fire part is just the best.

I'm guessing that it was ran loud and hot at your place!

Looks like iRule is done. I was thinking about going much more simple for the new project anyways. Sucks that I spent so much time, effort, and money getting it to work. @dlbeck - what are you going to do?

Hey Doug. I only use I rule for my lighting and ever since I installed the echo dot in the theater all my lighting commands have been with Alexa. But bummer...too bad they are gone.

I use a Logitech harmony remote, zwave switches through smartthings and Google voice, phone or iPad to control it all. I'm pretty happy with it.

I think I'm switching to the Harmony also. It's so easy to use and I like having a dedicated remote.

In other news... I picked up a set of used JBL Control 28 all-weather speakers for my dock. They sound pretty darn good and would probably make for some sweet surrounds.

Yeah, I ditched iRule for the Harmony Elite sometime before the crawl and I have no regrets. I have posted about it before so I won't repeat everything. But, it has support for my Insteon switches so it controls my lighting and setting it all up is a snap. Changing macros is quick and painless. Customization is simple. The IR blasters do a very good job with coverage. The remote is ergonomic, lights up, and is easy to use without taking your eyes off the screen.

I also like the iPhone integration that allows me to turn on the system right after I get the kids down so it is warmed up by the time I make my way downstairs.

Any of you guys in KC know where I can demo a Optoma UHD65 or a Sony 285? The Magnolia BestBuy on 117th and Metcalf is suppose to have the Sony 285 up this week. I really want to see if the Sony 285 is worth double if not more than double the UHD65. Or even the Vivitek 2299 in place of the Optoma UHD65.

106" Mitsubishi HC7900DW and JVC coming soon.
Denon x4300h Atmos
Phillips 4K Bluray player
Polk Mon 60 fronts Mon 40 rears 80i ceiling
Klipsch 12"sub
Xbox One and X is on order.

Alexa also controls JRiver in your house.

The Harmony Elite or Harmony Pro both support Alexa and Google Home for voice commands. The Pro version includes additional IR blasters and additional wireless Smart devices, but costs about $50 more.

Quick glance at Amazon where I dont want to buy it I see what you mean....RS420 is better for gaming over RS400 even. So B stock wont have updated firmware and fix for CMD? Is the CMD issue hardware?

I presume you would say JVC>2299 easy?

The RS420 has a low lag mode and works well for gaming. The only way to ensure the PJ has the latest firmware and fix for CMD is to send it to JVC in California. I paid for shipping for all my customers who wanted the CMD fix. I haven't heard back yet from @jedimastergrant about his RS520.

The black floor of the JVC will be better than the 2299 if you have a complete light controlled room. Based on how Vivitek usually rates their brightness, I would say the JVC will be brighter, too. I haven't seen the Vivitek yet, but it got good CEDIA reports.

Thanks for the reminder. Yes, I think I do want the update. Difficult to be without a projector but better than dealing with banding.

Sounds like JVC is the way especially with their recent aggressive pricing. I have painted with flat black and also used black velvet in the area around screen. My best friend thought I was crazy and when projector came on it made a huge difference way more than I expected it to make to color and contrast. Basement theater with complete control over lighting.

I just got out of blade runner at amc town center prime, and I have to say... it's probably best to avoid the dolby theater until they can sort out their vibration/blurriness issues.

Still the upper left is blurry, which is most apparent when text is on the screen. That isn't really an issue for me when there isn't text though, even though it is annoying when there is.

The vibration issues are just jarring now. Any time there was low bass, my attention was taken from the movie and split between it and the noise. Just obnoxious. I sent an email to the manager who had reached out to me the last time I complained, and asked if they had an actual plan to fix the vibration because they previously said they had an idea of what was causing it and were trying to figure out how to fix it. I'll let you know what they say.

Blade Runner itself was highly enjoyable, and I look forward to seeing it again.

I have a horrible confession to make... I have never seen the original Blade Runner.

My wife and I are planning on watching it tonight. Does anyone have the new 4K version that would be willing to lend it to me? If so I could come grab it today and bring it back tomorrow. I hate to buy a movie that I haven't seen before, because it could be a one and done thing.

Should have come over a few nights ago with some other amigos when we watched it here.

But, yes I have it and you can pick it up anytime. I'm here the rest of day. It is amazing that a film made in 1982 can look as good as it does. It was originally in stereo but you would never know that it was not native atmos. I think it is that good.

I have considered selling my Oppo too. There was never anything terrible about the Samsung. I jumped on the Oppo because everyone raved about them and I had never owned one. I really thought the Oppo would allow me the option to strip HDR and they never really got it figured out. I still have the Samsung if I decide to let go of the Oppo.

I feel like HDR is beneficial most of the time but there are instances where the authoring is poor and the limited brightness of the PJ hurts the picture.

It would be nice to have the Panny/Fury combo for some flicks like Arrival that look way too dark in HDR on a PJ.

What are you replacing it with? I thought Oppo was supposed to be the top dog. Are you getting the 205?

I hope to maybe see it tomorrow at the Barrywoods Dolby Cinema. It doesn't seem to have the issues the one down south does. I did notice some hum from some speakers in the IMAX last weekend at low volume, when watching the Kingsman last weekend, but went away or couldn't hear it when the movie got going.

Sold it.

I have read way to many people that have compared the Panny to the Oppo that like the Panasonic better. Grant, do I really need the Fury?

You don't need the Fury or the Panasonic. One customer in Omaha with the Epson 5040UB had both and sold the Panasonic because he liked the short load times of the OPPO better. I've calibrated several Epson 5040UB with a custom HDR gamma curve and the only reason to not use HDR is if you don't have enough gain from your screen or haven't had a professional calibration. I think @Oledurt has posted most of the settings I used for his 5040UB in the Official 5040UB thread.

@jedimastergrant , you need a screen with higher gain to get the best out of HDR. I can see if I can upgrade you to the new NEO fabric from Seymour Screen Excellence. I now use Arve's tool for a custom HDR gamma curve for the JVC projectors. It basically makes the JVC projector perfect for watching HDR.

I'm going to the first ever ISF Level III training being held at Sony's headquarters in San Diego next month (Nov 7-9). It focuses just on UHD and HDR including signal chain, tone mapping, and calibration techniques.

I just went to Leawood Dolby theater last night to see Blade runner and wow it has a super loud squeak ever time bass hit from upper right just like you said maybe worse now... Also text was very blurry on upper right and too many sparkles from the screen also... I have seen Gardians 2 most recently there and didn't have the bad squeak. I will email them also. Not a minor squeak but real loud and obviously to the upper right.
Wild movie and will be a Atmos demo disc for sure.
