I'm probably missing people - for that I apologize, but otherwise these are guys I've at least interacted with through PM on several occasions and I know they live locally - many I've been to their house and they to mine.

We have a google groups membership that we use to communicate with as well:
Kansas City Home Theater Enthusiasts

Feel free to request access to this google group:

Luke Kamp, carp, stitch1, and I are the managers of the google group - so you'll want to request access through one of us.

What I suggest is that those interested can consider hosting an evening for a rotating movie night. The interval can be fleshed out - - -Perhaps monthly, perhaps quarterly. You may only wish to host once, you may wish to host more often. If you would like to host a movie night at your home to show of your equipment, meet other enthusiasts in the hobby, or learn more about the hobby please provide the date you are willing to host. The details of the g2g can be hashed out through PM to keep address and contact information private if preferred.

If you'd like to be added to the list, or would consider hosting an event - please sound off in the thread, or shoot me a PM.

Well after much deliberation I am going to build the DIYSG 1299’s for LCR and two mini Marty’s or two modified Johnny’s (BCRSS’s design) with 18’s. Been playing around with WinISD and some of the other spreadsheets out there. Still fingering out what is important but slowly am picking it up.

Really getting hooked on the DIY aspect.

Wish I had the woodworking skills of @d_c. But maybe I will by the time I’m done lol. Any chance @d_c that you would have time to help? :). Going to be a fun few projects!

@blister64 is also going to be building 1299's as well now and either Volt 8's or 10's for surrounds. You guys ought to talk. He has become part of the KC area group. I like my old Klipsch towers and surrounds, but if I could sell them I might be interested in building 1299's or 1099's. Not sure the wife would understand. Good luck in the build.

With the small thickness of the panels , they will only be effective at treble/voice absorption. Painting will kill that and not be good for the NRC. What you could do is cover in acoustically transparent material. Burlap would be the cheapest.

Special thanks to @Archaea for hosting me last night! Amazing setup and excellent teacher and explainer of all things audio related. He is definitely my Obi-wan-Kenobi.

Had a great time!

He has a great setup. Hosted me a few months back when I was looking at projectors and was very impressed with his theater. Learned a lot while there, very nice guy.

Echo that. Archaea's was the first theater I saw in KC around the beginning of the year and it did not disappoint. I still have the memory of the Interstellar takeoff scene seared in my brain with the acoustic treatments shaking off the walls. I can't do nearfield subs with my theater, but the goal is to have bass that comes *somewhat* close to that... Plus, I learned a few things about computers and video cards at his place. He's a great resource and very kind to do these demonstrations. When mine is done in a few months, I'll return the favor for anyone wanting to demo mine as well. My knowledge base isn't anywhere near most of you that post here, but I at least have a couple of guys that *do* know what they're doing helping with the design/build process, so it should have a good result.

I remember that night and the Interstellar clip was very cool and I don't have the base to come close to that or will have midfields, but have played it at home which made my wife say stop that you are shacking everything on the kitchen table and you are knocking the Elf on the Shelf off. Our son was about to come home and didn't want that happening when he came home. 8-18" subs is hard to beat unless you go to carp's or d_c's.

KDK12KDK1 you will beat me done on the theater. I am getting some estimates from GC's about finishing my basement and helping with the theater some. The wife will have the final call on cost as she wants at least 4 estimates. I think I have a final plan I will go with for it. I want to to go with the biggest screen as I can for the room. I look forward to seeing yours when it is done.

Hey guys! Been a while since i have visited this thread. I sold my Klipsch cinema speakers and am
Currently borrowing some fusion 15’s to try. They are nice and i was offered a good price to buy them
But they aren’t quite on the same level as what i had. So debating a Titan dual 15 build or maybe even going full bore in the 1899. Any of you guys heard either? I know there is a guy in Kansas with the 1899. Maybe i just need to drive a couple hours and go see them in person.

If you are in the market for a new Android phone, Samsung is doing a BOGO on the new Note 9 that comes out next Monday. Sprint, Verizon and AT&T or get it unlocked for full price are offering it. I went through BEST Buy, because they give you another $100 of the price to start with. Also for ordering the phone early you can get a $200 pair of AKG headphones or card for $15,000 Vbucks on the Fortnite game. If you pay $99 you get them both. I just got the Vbucks and will give it to my kid. Also the Note 9 will be the first phone to be able to play Fortnite on.

Just thought I would pass it on if anyone was in the market for a new phone.

After going from a Note 2 to a Galaxy S8+, I've decided I am never going with another phone with the curved edges on the screen. Never had a problem with a screen before, but this thing has already broken twice (and not after a drop the 2nd time).

#7,122 ·
I haven't liked the either till I got a new case from Ulsaar on Amazon. It protects the edges better and it is not so touchy now. Now I have to find a new one for the Note 9. I am staying with Samsung because I like my wireless charger.

I have been playing a bit of catch up on movies lately. We watched the remake of Magnificent Seven with Denzel and Pratt. If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's a pretty good movie and the bass is very nice. I also watched Earth to Echo. It was recommended for it's bass back when it came out. It's kinda like a modern Goonies movie. Families are forced to move... Neighborhood friends spend one last epic night together chasing a map. But this has an alien instead of pirates. Pretty solid movie. Wasn't what I was expecting going into it. But it was a fun movie. Oh and the bass didn't disappoint.

I also checked out both Ready Player one and Infinity Wars. RP1 was great with fantastic bass. IW is a fun movie but the audio was sorely lacking.

Anyone else playing catch up lately?

#7,128 ·
I now remember Earth To Echo after watching the trailer. More reminds me of E.T. crossed with Goonies. I know my wife and I would like it, but my 9 year old would be scared. Kid is not in to Sci Fi or any movies that seem scary. Hopefully when he is a little older he will come around. He likes watching the same movies over and over, The Night at the Museum. We will be checking this movie out soon, thanks for the reminder and there are some others that I am not sure how good they are like the new Tomb Raider and Annihilation.

#7,131 ·
I agree with you. Although the game didn't set the bar all that high. lol Without getting into spoilers for the movie. I thought the first act was slow and redundant without any payoff for what they are trying to do with the character building. I feel like something got cut from the film that shouldn't have or they did two back to back setups to convey the same message. Either way it didn't work for me.

Also at the end... I get she didn't know that they owned the company they were trying to stop but how did her dad not know?

Hopefully we can get a crowd.
I’m not sure when they will arrive but they were scheduled to leave California today via FedEx. I will pass along information as I get it.
I thought I should add that Dennis Murphy the owner of Philharmonic Audio is wanting to move the BMR road show along pretty quickly, so if there are no delays in shipping I would guess that the BMR’s would probably have to be moving on to their next destination by the end of this weekend at the latest.

#7,135 ·
I just got an email from FedEx with a Thursday expected delivery date so it looks like this weekend would be best.

Hopefully someone wants to host in KC.

I’m out. But best of luck finding a crew to audition/host.

Life’s too busy lately and I’ve got six day SANs training I’m leaving for on Sat in San Francisco.

I’m out. Will be in TX this weekend for work. Never heard this speakers so please report back.

I still need to check out d_c's place too...and carp's...and @sigma722 needs to hurry up.

Alrighty, BMR speaker audition at my house Saturday at 6. We will drink beer, of course. I’ll get some pizza or something for dinner and we can watch a flick later if you guys want. I have to work Sunday, so we will wrap it up at 12.

So far it’s:
