I would drive to Austin to attend. Doesn't look like much activity going on in here though.

Hi guys,
I see this thread hasn't had a lot of activity, but I'm definitely interested. I don't have a super high-end home theater, but my wife and I like it. We're currently in southwest Austin

Can anyone recommend a good installer in Austin? I got some new Triad Silver speakers that I want to install in-wall and a few other things I want some help with. I have contacted a few places but none that I feel comfortable using. Thanks.

If you know where you want them installed, maybe look at a general contractor.

Anyone recommend a general contractor in Austin? I'm looking for someone to remodel my basement into a theater. I'll provide detailed plans. Just need a good and cost effective contractor.

looking for installation help?

RGSwff3 - Did you ever get your Triad speakers installed? I just moved here from the North Houston area and have been designing, building and installing systems for friends, neighbors, and through word of mouth contacts for several years. Let me know if you would like me to stop by and see what you need to have done.

How do you have a basement in Austin?! I'm jealous. We can't dig deeper than a foot without breaking up massive amounts of rock here in central Austin (for the most part... depends on the area). The only basements I've ever known of were houses built on the side of a hill.

Would love to hear about your project. Hope it is going/went well!

Thanks!
Cory

Yeah, the house is built into a hill. The front yard is at street level while the back yard is downstairs.
It would be hard to imagine digging into rock for a basement. It would probably make more sense to build up.

Sadly, I haven't been able to make any progress. Other priorities this past year.

Is this thread dead? Any other Austinites around? I've upgraded to the JVC RS400 since last posting here and it's a truly incredible projector. I'm dabbling in Atmos too which is quite impressive. HDR is usually a noticeable improvement but highly depends on the quality of the UHD disc. Expanded color gamut is awesome.

Yes, I think to both questions.

Which projector did you upgrade from?

At some point, maybe over the holidays, I want to add some more acoustic treatments to my theater. I have the screen wall treated and corner traps in the first corner, but that's it.

I upgraded from the Mitsubishi HC8000D... which had good black levels but wow JVC is truly in a different league.

The acoustic treatments really make a difference. I love that dead sound... just takes some effort to make them nice looking for the wife haha. I recently bought some of the recycling cotton acoustic foam boards. Very impressed.

You bet! What are you needing help with? There are a lot of good starting points on the JVC RS500 Owner's thread. Then, tweak from there to your liking.

If there was a meet up, I'd definitely be down, I'm in San Antonio so not too far away!

That would be pretty cool if someone would host one. Unfortunately I can't because I have a micro theater and an 8 month old in the house...two big obstacles to hosting a meet up.

Hello Everyone. This thread doesn't seem very active. What's going on in the home theater world for Austin?

I guess everyone is laying low haha. I don't know. Would love to have people over but I have a very small theater and a 9 month old so I'm not a good candidate.

Also interested. Need to organize; get everyone on one page. A good idea is to meet at a local establishment so folks can get to know one another then maybe a get together at an actual home theater sometime after that. Also from San Antonio.

Absolutely. However this thread seems super inactive. I wonder if you should start a new thread discussing a happy hour some time.

Does anyone in the area have experience with REW? My system sounds good to me but with no experience ever I could be wrong.
